Jian Ran reached the dormitory entrance and gazed into the endless darkness. Suddenly, he stopped, glanced sideways, and raised an eyebrow as he asked,
"Are you really coming with me?"
"Aren't you afraid of danger?"
Lu Yanting pressed his lips into a faint smile. "Would I be in danger with you?"
"Don't you plan to protect me?"
Jian Ran opened his mouth and was about to say something when Lu Yanting continued, "You want payment, right? I can pay by the month or by the year."
"As long as you agree."
It would have been a lie to say Jian Ran wasn't happy to hear about payment, but when he heard about paying by the month or year, he felt something was off. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, though. It actually sounded pretty reasonable.
"If you didn't put yourself in danger, you might not need to pay me." A trace of confusion showed in Jian Ran's eyes.
Lu Yanting's smile remained unchanged. "There are some things I need to look into as well, so sorry for the trouble."
A family curse, haunting evil spirits, supernatural incidents filling his everyday life-it all seemed to be everywhere.
He couldn't live like an ordinary person, yet he didn't know where it all originated. He could only investigate and search through one incident after another.
So much time had passed without a single lead. Lu Yanting had considered giving up completely, but then Jian Ran had come into his life...
"Then, all right." Jian Ran felt he had no reason to refuse, so he nodded. "Stay close to me."
With that, he plunged headfirst into the endless darkness.
Lu Yanting swiftly followed right behind him.
The moment they entered the darkness, it felt as though countless eyes had fixed on them.
