[Mutated plant: White Melon Vine] [Level: Tier 1] [Description: A plant mutated from an ordinary vine. Grows rapidly and thrives on moisture. Its white fruit is edible.]
The effects of the Winebrew Grass and Jade Flower probably could not be verified anytime soon. Tang Zhixue was most interested in the other three vines growing around wooden sticks-the White Melon Vines.
After producing the mutated White Melon Vines, Tang Zhixue had specifically broken a few straight branches off trees in the woods for the vines to climb.
Their fruit looked somewhat like cucumbers, except that it was white.
After Tang Zhixue had watered them with Plant Vitality, the three vines were now laden with white melons.
Of course, he had pollinated the flowers himself after they bloomed. Otherwise, they would not have produced any white melons.
Snap!
Tang Zhixue stepped forward, picked a white melon, wiped it with his hand, and stuffed it into his mouth.
Crunch!
Tang Zhixue's eyes lit up. "Oh, this tastes pretty good."
It tasted refreshingly sweet, with a rich fruity fragrance and plenty of juice.
Without hesitation, he picked all the remaining white melons.
[Item: White melon] [Level: Tier 1] [Description: Contains plenty of moisture and tastes delicious. Long-term consumption can slightly improve constitution.]
The three White Melon Vines had produced twenty-one white melons in total. Apart from the one Tang Zhixue was eating, twenty remained.
Tang Zhixue picked a few broad leaves in the woods and spread them over the wooden table, placing all the harvested white melons on top.
"The food problem is solved for now," Tang Zhixue mused as he munched on his white melon. "Then I'll explore the woods this afternoon and see where I can find water."
Then, with a thought, he opened the regional chat channel.
[Guys, have you had lunch yet?] [Lunch? All I picked were some wild fruits. Sour as hell!] [You're lucky to have wild fruit to eat, okay? I'm in a desert and don't even know where to find food.] [Exactly. I just ate a scorpion. I don't even want to talk about the taste.] [A scorpion?! Dude, you're a legend!] [Holy shit! You have no idea what just happened to me.] [???] [What happened?] [Tell us already! Don't keep us hanging.] [I ran into a man asking for directions in the woods!] [What? A man asking for directions?] [Damn, people have already found each other?]
"Huh? Someone ran into another person?"
Suddenly interested, Tang Zhixue sat up straight and watched the regional chat channel before him.
[No! That man was a monster!] [???] [!!!] [A monster???] [Yes, a monster! At first, it could talk to me and ask for directions, but as soon as I got close, its face twisted hideously and it lunged at me!] [Then what?] [Whoa, could it be a native?] [Keep going, dude! Don't stop there!] [Luckily, I blocked it right away when it lunged at me, but then its head instantly rotted away, and its perfectly normal body rotted too! The smell was seriously disgusting!!] [Holy shit!!!] [Wait, there are actual fucking monster attacks?!] [!!! I fucking see a monster too! Right in front of me!] [I ran into one too!] [Wait, why am I seeing a mummy walking through the desert?!]
Tang Zhixue could not help frowning. "Monsters that can lure people in? Mummies walking through the desert?"
If he encountered mutated beasts like the Ember Ash Snake, they would still be fairly simple to deal with, but this monster was different.
If it could turn into a living person to deceive people, could it also turn into a plant or an inanimate object?
Knock, knock.
Suddenly, a knock sounded at the wooden door Tang Zhixue had shut.
He turned his head stiffly toward the wooden door.
Damn it! I only just mentioned it, and now one's here?!
Fortunately, he had shut the wooden door when he came inside.
"Hello, is anyone there?"
A gentle female voice reached Tang Zhixue's ears from outside.
He slowly stood up and grabbed the stool he had been sitting on.
"Hello, is anyone there?" the woman outside spoke again. "Could you spare some food?"
Ignoring the voice outside, Tang Zhixue went to the door and took a deep breath.
Judging by the knocking just now and the woman's voice, the thing outside was most likely standing right outside the door.
And the cabin's door opened outward.
Clack!
Tang Zhixue reached out and slid back the bolt on the wooden door.
Perhaps noticing the movement behind the door, the woman outside spoke again. "Hello, could you spare something to eat?"
Her already gentle voice grew even more delicate, and even a little seductive.
Bang!
But Tang Zhixue's answer was to kick the wooden door open with all his strength.
Thud!
Aaargh!
As the wooden door burst open, a shapely figure landed a short distance away.
At first glance, Tang Zhixue thought he had struck the wrong target, but the sound that followed made him sigh in relief.
That did not sound like anything a normal human could make.
Watching the monster gradually rot as it struggled to get up nearby, Tang Zhixue gripped the stool by a leg and strode forward.
Aaargh!
The monster roared at the approaching Tang Zhixue, but after being sent flying by the kicked-open wooden door, it was still struggling to rise from the ground.
Tang Zhixue rushed forward, gauging the distance between them, then suddenly swung the stool in a wide arc.
Without a starting weapon, this stool was the best weapon he had!
Smash!
The rotting head was smashed apart by the stool, and a rotten stench immediately spread.
Tang Zhixue covered his nose and backed away several steps. The smell really was almost enough to kill him.
Fortunately, once the monster lost its head, it could no longer get up and died completely.
The rotten stench dissipated extremely quickly too, and before long, it had almost entirely dispersed.
Tang Zhixue picked up a dead branch from the woods and slowly approached the monster's corpse.
The style of its clothes is pretty similar to modern clothing on Blue Star.
Tang Zhixue prodded through the monster's belongings with the dead branch.
"Huh, what's this?"
He hooked a gray cloth pouch out of the monster's trouser pocket.
Tang Zhixue carefully opened the pouch, revealing the item inside.
It was a book with a yellow cover.
Tang Zhi frowned at the writing on the book's cover. "What script is this? Some small country's unique script?"
There was not much writing on the cover, only three characters, but Tang Zhixue did not recognize any of them.
He opened the book, and its contents came into view.
There was a lot of writing, but just like the writing on the cover, Tang Zhixue could not recognize a single character.
Besides the writing, the volume also contained many illustrations of movements, marked with numerous arrows.
Tang Zhixue leafed through it page by page, trying to find some writing he recognized.
