Ch. 21Using Half-Finished Ninjutsu

Bieshu Feifan tried to avoid returning to the raid and was tracked down by an Aburame Chunin who accused him of desertion. After the Chunin overwhelmed him in combat, Bieshu Feifan used a disguised half-finished Clone Technique and an Explosive Tag to kill him, then collapsed from his injuries.

  • Bieshu Feifan avoided Iwagakure patrols while Shimura Daio went back to the raid team to retrieve him.
  • The Aburame Chunin sent bugs after Bieshu Feifan, then confronted him and threatened to treat his flight as desertion.
  • The Aburame Chunin defeated Bieshu Feifan in close combat, cutting his shoulder and kicking him into the ground.
  • Bieshu Feifan used a half-finished Clone Technique to disguise his real body and planted an Explosive Tag in the decoy.
  • The Aburame Chunin struck the decoy and was killed in the explosion, and Bieshu Feifan collapsed after confirming his death.

Ch. 22The Best Transfer Order

Bieshu Feifan and Shimura Daio survived an encounter with Iwagakure ninja and returned to Konoha’s camp, where they reported their mission to Jiraiya. Bieshu Feifan then received orders to return to Konoha to recover from his injuries.

  • Bieshu Feifan killed an Aburame Chunin, took his supplies and Explosive Tags, and spotted Shimura Daio fleeing three Iwagakure Genin.
  • Bieshu Feifan ambushed the pursuers with Explosive Tag-equipped javelins, and Shimura Daio finished off the wounded survivor.
  • Bieshu Feifan and Shimura Daio treated each other’s injuries, agreed on a cover story, and Bieshu Feifan secretly planted hypnotic suggestions in Shimura Daio.
  • The two returned to Konoha’s camp and told Jiraiya that Sarutobi Jiububang, posing as Koshino Naka, was an Iwagakure spy who had ruined the raid.
  • After the officers questioned them without learning more about the raid, Bieshu Feifan received a transfer order sending him back to Konoha to recuperate.

Ch. 23Lord Hokage Didn't Haggle

Bieshu Feifan went to the Hokage Building to collect payment for his service on the Land of Rain battlefield, then tried to trade his claimed mission merits for forbidden texts or A-rank ninjutsu. Hiruzen Sarutobi refused the exchange and paid him instead, leaving Bieshu Feifan to accept a slightly short sum and depart.

  • After recovering from his shoulder wound, Bieshu Feifan went to the mission hall to demand the payment he had not received for his battlefield missions.
  • The receptionist sent Bieshu Feifan to meet Hiruzen Sarutobi after hearing his claims about completing numerous high-rank missions.
  • Bieshu Feifan reminded Hiruzen Sarutobi that he had personally promoted him and cited his Will of Fire essay, which Hiruzen recognized.
  • Bieshu Feifan presented stamped transfer orders and offered to exchange his mission merits for twenty or thirty forbidden texts or A-rank ninjutsu.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi gave Bieshu Feifan a wad of banknotes, and Bieshu Feifan counted the money, called it slightly short, and left.

Ch. 24The reason behind the Uchiha's actions

After receiving a large payment from Hiruzen Sarutobi, Bieshu Feifan trained while expecting to return to the battlefield. Two Uchiha boys attacked him and destroyed his home, and he left the Hokage worried that the Uchiha were plotting a coup.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi ordered an unseen follower to watch Bieshu Feifan, then returned to his paperwork.
  • Bieshu Feifan trained with his injured right arm in a sling, anticipating that Hiruzen Sarutobi would send him back to war once he healed.
  • Two Uchiha boys confronted Bieshu Feifan, and one blasted his home with a Great Fireball Technique.
  • Bieshu Feifan fought back, wounded one Uchiha boy, and held a kunai to his throat until four Anbu arrived and detained them.
  • After questioning, Bieshu Feifan learned the boys had attacked him because they heard he resisted an Uchiha Elite Chunin's genjutsu, then rushed to warn Hiruzen Sarutobi of a supposed coup.
  • Bieshu Feifan told Hiruzen Sarutobi that the Uchiha had rebelled and urged him to mobilize troops, while Hiruzen Sarutobi reconsidered his assessment of Bieshu Feifan's intelligence.

Ch. 25Don't Think Well of Bad People

After refusing to target the Uchiha, Hiruzen Sarutobi and Shimura Danzō each suspected Bieshu Feifan of having a mild intellectual disability, while Danzō recruited him to learn a ninjutsu. Bieshu Feifan returned to find his home destroyed, settled into an inn with a Fire Release scroll, and opened the door to meet Might Duy.

  • Bieshu Feifan collected more than four million ryo in compensation from the Uchiha, and Hiruzen Sarutobi refused Shimura Danzō's demand to surveil them with Root.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi crossed out the suspicion of mild intellectual disability in Bieshu Feifan's file, then added the same suspicion to Shimura Danzō's file.
  • Bieshu Feifan found his house destroyed and went looking for Might Duy, but two Root ninja brought him to Shimura Danzō instead.
  • Danzō tested Bieshu Feifan's limited Substitution Technique, gave him a scroll, and admitted that Bieshu Feifan's hostility toward the Uchiha had earned him a ninjutsu.
  • Bieshu Feifan rented an inn room and began studying the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, then opened the door after someone pounded on it and saw a green-clad, bowl-cut figure.

Ch. 26A priceless Fire Release

Bieshu Feifan hired Might Duy to rebuild his home, then provoked the Uchiha children into attacking him so he could turn the incident into compensation. The chapter ended with Hiruzen Sarutobi dismissing the Uchiha adult after warning him to discipline the clan’s children.

  • Bieshu Feifan hired Might Duy to build a new house, paid him generously, and encouraged him to support his son’s future.
  • After training at home for several days, Bieshu Feifan faced three Uchiha children who challenged his resistance to genjutsu.
  • Uchiha Ba failed to trap Bieshu Feifan with his Sharingan and attacked him with Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique.
  • Bieshu Feifan deliberately exposed his hand to the flames, fled outside, and shouted that the Uchiha were killing people and rebelling.
  • Anbu restrained Bieshu Feifan and the three Uchiha, and Hiruzen Sarutobi heard the case in his office.
  • An Uchiha adult paid Bieshu Feifan more than five million in damages and another million for medical expenses before Hiruzen Sarutobi dismissed him.

Ch. 27The need for deeper study

After rebuilding his house and training with Might Duy, Bieshu Feifan visited Hiruzen Sarutobi to ask to return to school and study the Will of Fire more deeply. Hiruzen refused, gave him a book on the Will of Fire, and left Bieshu Feifan wondering if it would keep enemies from trying to kill him.

  • Bieshu Feifan paid Might Duy three hundred thousand ryo to help build a larger, three-story house and began building ties with him and his son.
  • A rumor spread through Konoha that Hiruzen Sarutobi had failed to handle the Uchiha, while Hiruzen ordered the Anbu to issue a notice denying a rebellion and end the matter.
  • Might Duy invited Bieshu Feifan to run five hundred laps, gave him a green training bodysuit, and ran with him while shouting about youth.
  • Bieshu Feifan went to the Hokage Building and told Hiruzen Sarutobi that enemies had tried to cut him down while he explained the Will of Fire.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi refused Bieshu Feifan's request to return to school and gave him a book summarizing the Will of Fire.
  • Bieshu Feifan asked Hiruzen Sarutobi what he should do if enemies still tried to kill him after he read the book.

Ch. 28Konoha's morgue was pretty good

Bieshu Feifan secured a month to study the Will of Fire, then took a job at Konoha Hospital to search for special chakra among the dead. He absorbed a Senju’s lingering chakra and began strengthening his body, but someone knocked on his door before he could continue training.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi gave Bieshu Feifan a month and a scroll containing Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Jutsu, while Bieshu Feifan ignored the Will of Fire book he received.
  • Bieshu Feifan bluffed a hospital Chunin into assigning him to move the seriously wounded and work in the morgue, then Hiruzen Sarutobi learned of the job and let him be.
  • Bieshu Feifan checked the morgue’s corpses and absorbed the remaining special chakra from a dead Senju, gaining a faint remnant of the Sage Body and a stronger constitution.
  • Bieshu Feifan trained at home to test his new chakra, then someone knocked and called for him to open the door.

Ch. 29The Uchiha's Night of Triumph

Bieshu Feifan completed his Senju chakra training and tested his growing strength in a fight with Uchiha Ba. He returned home after faking defeat, while Uchiha Ba was hit with a one-million-ryo compensation claim and reprimanded by the Hokage.

  • Uchiha Ni challenged Bieshu Feifan, but left without fighting when Bieshu refused to come outside.
  • Bieshu Feifan spent several days refining Senju chakra, strengthening his body, and practicing Fire Release.
  • After returning to work at Konoha Hospital, Bieshu Feifan decided to focus on getting stronger before Hiruzen Sarutobi sent him to the battlefield.
  • Uchiha Ba and another Uchiha cornered Bieshu Feifan, and he initially outmatched Uchiha Ba in their kunai fight.
  • Uchiha Ba used Fire Release and then kicked Bieshu Feifan through a wall; Bieshu pretended to be badly hurt to conceal that he had noticed the approaching Anbu.
  • Uchiha Ba returned home boasting of his victory, but the Anbu delivered a one-million-ryo Compensation Claim and a Letter of Reprimand from the Hokage, and his family beat him.

Ch. 30The Hokage wanted nothing to do with Bieshu Feifan

After Uchiha Ji trapped Bieshu Feifan in a terrifying genjutsu, Bieshu trained for nearly a month before visiting Hiruzen Sarutobi to ask about his chakra natures and criticize a book about the Will of Fire. The chapter left Hiruzen eager to hear Bieshu’s objections.

  • Uchiha Ji ambushed Bieshu Feifan and used genjutsu to make him believe his pigs had escaped back on Earth.
  • Bieshu Feifan recovered, resolved to increase his chakra, and kept up a routine of running, training, and working at the hospital for nearly a month.
  • Bieshu Feifan visited Hiruzen Sarutobi and asked him to explain a Fire Release technique, then claimed he had been attacked by the Uchiha.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi had an Anbu bring Chakra Paper, and Bieshu Feifan discovered that he had Fire and Wind chakra natures.
  • Bieshu Feifan asked Hiruzen Sarutobi for a Wind Release technique and said he disagreed with parts of The Third Hokage's Will of Fire: Deluxe Edition.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi set aside his pipe and asked Bieshu Feifan to explain what was wrong with the book.

Ch. 31Hiruzen Sarutobi Still Wouldn't Give Up

Bieshu Feifan used arguments about the Will of Fire to buy himself more time and obtained a chakra nature test that showed he had wind and fire affinities. Hiruzen Sarutobi eventually ordered him onto a Genin team, where he met two inexperienced former classmates and learned their leader was Uchiha Qiongyue.

  • Bieshu Feifan convinced Hiruzen Sarutobi to give him more time to study the Will of Fire and received a chakra nature test showing wind and fire affinities.
  • After more than a dozen days, Bieshu Feifan received an order to report to the Hokage's Office and was assigned a team with Dajirō and Feng You.
  • Bieshu Feifan questioned how Dajirō and Feng You had graduated and concluded that both were poorly prepared for ninja work.
  • At Training Ground Number Eleven, Bieshu Feifan identified their stern Chunin leader as Qiongyue, who introduced himself as Uchiha Qiongyue.
  • Uchiha Qiongyue cut off Feng You and Bieshu Feifan during their introductions, and Dajirō began explaining his father's connection to the Land of Fire's economy minister's butler.

Ch. 32A mission rife with infighting

Uchiha Qiongyue tested his three subordinates and led them toward the Land of Wind, suspecting that Konoha’s high command had sent them on a dangerous mission to eliminate him. At the border, Bieshu Feifan received secret orders to lead Uchiha Qiongyue to the Sand Ninja and found a Wind Release ninjutsu hidden in the scroll.

  • Uchiha Qiongyue knocked down Dajirō, Bieshu Feifan, and Feng You during a test of their abilities.
  • Uchiha Qiongyue told the team to gather intelligence in the Land of Wind and disrupt Sunagakure’s supplies, while Bieshu Feifan questioned whether the mission was designed to kill them.
  • Dajirō and Feng You struggled to keep up on the journey, so Uchiha Qiongyue stopped to let them rest and discussed the mission with Bieshu Feifan.
  • Uchiha Qiongyue led the squad to the Western Border outpost and planned to enter the Land of Rivers before attacking a Sunagakure outpost.
  • A patrolling ninja secretly ordered Bieshu Feifan to lead Uchiha Qiongyue to the Sand Ninja and handed him a scroll containing a Wind Release ninjutsu.

Ch. 33Clearing out the outposts

Bieshu Feifan’s squad joined Konoha forces in the Land of Rivers to destroy Sunagakure outposts, while Bieshu Feifan and Uchiha Qiongyue each weighed the danger of their mission. After heavy fighting and losses, the squad continued west, leaving Dajirō and Feng You exhausted and Bieshu Feifan uneasy about Uchiha Qiongyue’s calm.

  • Bieshu Feifan, Uchiha Qiongyue, Dajirō, and Feng You joined three Konoha squads and crossed into the Land of Rivers without notifying its daimyo.
  • At a cave rendezvous, Uchiha Qiongyue tried to teach Dajirō and Feng You to follow hand signals, while Bieshu Feifan said he had spent his time training instead.
  • Konoha’s forces ambushed and wiped out a four-person Sunagakure squad near a town, then moved west toward another outpost.
  • At the next outpost, Dajirō and Feng You froze during the battle until Bieshu Feifan killed a Sand ninja who tried to sneak up on them; Uchiha Qiongyue defeated two Chunin as Konoha eliminated three Sunagakure squads.
  • After Konoha divided its forces to continue the operation, Uchiha Qiongyue’s squad headed west, while exhausted Dajirō and Feng You struggled to keep up.
  • Bieshu Feifan considered defecting to avoid Shimura Danzō’s dangerous assignment, but Uchiha Qiongyue calmly ordered the squad to move out.

Ch. 34No Explanation Needed to Burn Bridges

Uchiha Qiongyue led the team into the Land of Wind and lured them into a fight with Sand Ninja, while Bieshu Feifan watched for a chance to protect himself. After Bieshu Feifan killed the pursuing Sand Ninja Genin, he abandoned Uchiha Qiongyue and disappeared into the desert.

  • Bieshu Feifan spotted an Aburame Genin tracking him and realized Uchiha Qiongyue was leading the team deeper into the desert.
  • Uchiha Qiongyue doubled back with a Sand Ninja squad, exposing Dajirō and Feng You to the enemy while engaging a Sunagakure Chunin.
  • Bieshu Feifan threw an explosive-tagged kunai at the pursuing Sand Ninja Genin, killing all three and searching their bodies for spoils.
  • Uchiha Qiongyue killed the Sunagakure Chunin and proposed attacking a nearby camp, but Bieshu Feifan fled into the sand and refused to work with him again.

Ch. 35Konoha Ninja with Schemes of Their Own

Bieshu Feifan uncovered Shimura Danzō’s plot and joined forces with an Aburame ninja to lure Sunagakure forces toward Uchiha Qiongyue. Qiongyue was ambushed by Sand Ninja, while the Aburame watched with Bieshu beside him.

  • Dajirō and Feng You chased after Uchiha Qiongyue, while Bieshu Feifan tracked the Aburame ninja who had been spying on them.
  • Bieshu confronted the Aburame ninja, learned Shimura Danzō had assigned their missions, and agreed to cooperate against Qiongyue.
  • Bieshu and the Aburame ninja arranged to scatter cloth strips marked with “Uchiha” near Qiongyue so Sunagakure would discover him.
  • Qiongyue left his two students behind and headed for a Sunagakure supply station, but sensed chakra surrounding him in the desert.
  • Sand Ninja burst from the sand and attacked Qiongyue with puppets and weapons; he raised an Earth Wall and charged toward an opening.
  • The Aburame watched the ambush succeed while Bieshu stood beside him, alert to their surroundings.

Ch. 36A simple use of explosive tags

Bieshu Feifan defeated and killed an Aburame ninja sent by Shimura Danzō after a prolonged exchange of insect techniques and explosive tags. He then approached Uchiha Qiongyue’s battlefield and found that Qiongyue had nearly defeated an entire Sunagakure team, convincing Feifan that he could not be allowed to survive.

  • The Aburame ninja ambushed Bieshu Feifan, but Feifan used a Clone Technique to evade the strike and countered with a kunai and Fire Release.
  • Bieshu Feifan and the Aburame ninja resumed their fight, trading explosive tags until Feifan outmaneuvered him and struck him beneath the sand.
  • The dying Aburame ninja revealed his connection to Shimura Danzō, and Bieshu Feifan killed him and collected what supplies remained.
  • Bieshu Feifan recovered with a Soldier Pill and used his Byakugan to locate Uchiha Qiongyue’s ongoing battle.
  • Bieshu Feifan saw that Uchiha Qiongyue had defeated all but one member of a Sunagakure team and decided Qiongyue could not be allowed to live.

Ch. 37The oriole wasn't big enough

Uchiha Qiongyue survived a second ambush by Bieshu Feifan after defeating a group of Sunagakure ninja, but both men were left badly injured. The chapter ended with Qiongyue revealing a Shadow Clone and three-tomoe Sharingan as Bieshu Feifan fled with a broken arm.

  • Uchiha Qiongyue killed the Sunagakure jonin after defeating the dozen or so Sand Ninja who had surrounded him, then collapsed from his wounds and poison.
  • Bieshu Feifan ambushed Qiongyue with explosive-tagged kunai, but Qiongyue escaped and countered with a Great Fireball Technique.
  • Bieshu Feifan pursued Qiongyue and exchanged volleys of concealed weapons and explosive tags with him until Qiongyue lost his left arm and appeared unable to fight.
  • Bieshu Feifan stabbed what he thought was Qiongyue, but it vanished as a Shadow Clone, and the real Qiongyue struck him from behind and broke his arm.
  • Bieshu Feifan fled after seeing Qiongyue's battered body and three tomoe in each eye.

Ch. 38The wonderful capital of the Land of Wind

Bieshu Feifan followed the dying Uchiha Qiongyue across the Land of Wind, then took his Three-Tomoe Sharingan after Qiongyue died. He avoided returning to Konoha and settled in the Land of Wind’s capital, where he used genjutsu to secure a comfortable home and continued training.

  • Uchiha Qiongyue collapsed and died in the desert from his wounds and poison while Bieshu Feifan followed him.
  • Bieshu Feifan confirmed Qiongyue was dead, took his eyes, and gained the power of a Three-Tomoe Sharingan.
  • After surviving the approaching sandstorm, Bieshu Feifan disguised himself as a wandering child laborer and went to the capital of the Land of Wind instead of returning to Konoha.
  • Bieshu Feifan hypnotized a wealthy middle-aged man into believing he was his father and had the man find a doctor for his injured arm.
  • Once his arm healed, Bieshu Feifan stayed in the man's home, ordered supplies and genjutsu scrolls, and trained his Fire and Wind Release techniques.

Ch. 39Sitting at Home

Bieshu Feifan used hypnosis to secure a wealthy household and collect jutsu while training in the Land of Wind. After fleeing when Sunagakure guards came looking for him, he learned that Itadori Daiji had been taught a technique by the Kazekage and began plotting to obtain his Magnet Release chakra.

  • Bieshu Feifan hypnotized his newfound son’s wives, concubines, and servants, then continued training with the Genjutsu scrolls his son found.
  • He ordered his son to discreetly collect more jutsu, and received Wind Release, sealing, unsealing, summoning, and Bubble Technique scrolls.
  • When his son said city guards wanted to see him, Bieshu Feifan packed his valuables and hid as two Sunagakure ninjas arrived.
  • Bieshu Feifan watched one guard recall a thrown kunai and suspected the ninja used Magnet Release.
  • His son explained that the guards were daimyo relatives seeking money and identified the kunai user as Itadori Daiji, a powerful ninja taught by the Kazekage.
  • Bieshu Feifan returned to his training room and plotted to obtain Itadori Daiji’s special Magnet Release chakra.

Ch. 40What a big black dog

Bieshu Feifan abandoned his surveillance of Itadori Daiji after finding a Konoha code, but Jonin Inuzuka and his ninja dog Earth Black Maru tracked him down and recruited him to destroy a supply convoy. When Itadori Daiji left the capital escorting the shipment, Bieshu Feifan followed, intent on killing him.

  • Bieshu Feifan watched Itadori Daiji for weeks, then found a Konoha code at his lookout and decided to flee the capital.
  • Jonin Inuzuka and Earth Black Maru cornered Bieshu Feifan, who briefly used genjutsu on the dog before Jonin Inuzuka stopped his escape.
  • Jonin Inuzuka revealed that Itadori Daiji would escort a supply shipment to the Land of Rain and ordered Bieshu Feifan to help destroy it.
  • Itadori Daiji left the capital with ninja and samurai guarding the convoy, while Jonin Inuzuka and Bieshu Feifan followed in secret.
  • Bieshu Feifan watched Itadori Daiji from the convoy and resolved to kill him.
