| First Appearance | Mentioned in Chapter 48; appears directly in Chapter 49 48 49 |
Appearance
Senior Brother Li looks approximately fifteen or sixteen years old because of a special cultivation method. His youthful appearance contrasts with his world-weary manner and the deference shown to him by visibly older cultivators 49 50.
- Voice: Distinctively youthful 64.
- After returning from the Yaomo battlefield: Pale-faced, with a disordered aura indicating serious injury 64.
Personality
Senior Brother Li is warm and direct when dealing with promising juniors. He recognizes Zhang Jing’s talisman-making potential, urges him not to conceal his abilities, and backs that encouragement with material support and a route to promotion 49 50.
He respects personal boundaries: although surprised that Zhang Jing possesses Spirit Divine Liquid, he does not question its source. When unable to provide late Qi Refining Demon Cores, he admits it plainly and offers to watch for them 64.
His concern also extends to his juniors’ safety. After returning injured from the battlefield, he makes arrangements to warn Zhang Jing that Langya will soon become too dangerous for him to remain 64.
Abilities & Skills
Qi Refining Tenth Layer
Senior Brother Li stands near the pinnacle of the Dao Academy’s Outer Court disciples. Zhang Jing considers his inheritance, Law Techniques, and Law Artifacts to be among the finest available, supported by ample cultivation resources 64.
- Oversees operations on the Yaomo battlefield 57.
- Returns from that battlefield seriously injured; the passage does not identify his attacker 64.
- Is distinct from the Luodu Squad’s captain, another Senior Brother Li at the same realm whose aura Zhang Jing perceives as far stronger 73.
Appearance-Altering Cultivation Method
An unnamed special method gives him the appearance of an adolescent. No further workings or combat applications are described 49.
Squad Administration
Senior Brother Li manages benefits and advancement for specialist cultivators 49 50 57.
- Talisman-making support: Offers to cover Zhang Jing’s lower-grade talisman materials and purchase all his completed talismans at market price, without requiring him to sell them to the squad 49.
- Middle-grade obligations: Explains that middle-grade talisman production carries a minimum monthly sales requirement to the squad 49.
- Promotion: Arranges verification of Zhang Jing’s skills and authorizes his promotion to high-level member 50.
- Resource quotas: Holds authority to determine Zhang Jing’s monthly allocation of middle-grade spirit paper, which Senior Brother Yan cannot set independently 57.
He explicitly does not know how to make talismans himself, but understands the significance of success rates through frequent dealings with talisman masters 49.
History
Recognizing Zhang Jing’s Talent
After Senior Brother Ding reports Zhang Jing’s talisman-making ability, Senior Brother Li summons the junior cultivator to meet him in Langya. He is particularly impressed that Zhang Jing can produce numerous superior-quality lower-grade talismans so soon after beginning cultivation 48 49.
Zhang Jing reports a success rate of approximately forty percent, with every successful talisman being superior quality. Li immediately takes him to Senior Brother Yan and two other talisman masters for verification. After the demonstration, he arranges Zhang Jing’s promotion and instructs Yan to handle his materials and talisman sales 49 50.
Langya Battlefield and Evacuation Warning
Li subsequently leaves to oversee the Yaomo battlefield. When Zhang Jing visits after his return, he finds the deputy captain seriously injured 57 64.
Li warns that Inner Academy cultivators will arrive within ten days to half a month, turning Langya into a battlefield involving Foundation Establishment and even Golden Core Divine Ability cultivators. He urges Zhang Jing to return to the Dao Academy promptly 64.
Before Zhang Jing leaves, Li sells him four offensive Law Artifacts. During their later farewell, he again emphasizes the danger and directs Zhang Jing to meet the squad’s captain at Luodu Tower to pursue promotion to manager 64 71.
Post-Langya Reward Dispute
Back at the academy, the deputy captain informs the captain that Coiling Dragon and Rosy Clouds each want an additional five percent of the rewards allocated after the Langya uprising. Their proposal would take those shares from Luodu while leaving the other seven leading squads’ allocations unchanged 79.
He also attends the subsequent leadership meeting concerning Luodu’s response 80.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Middle-grade Law Artifacts: Holds more than a dozen artifacts, described by Senior Brother Yan as exceptionally fine examples 62 64.
- Artifacts sold to Zhang Jing: Azure Light Banner, Mountain-Weight Seal, Dark Gold Heavy Mace, and Nine-Flame Bottle; their combined price is 230 Dao Merit 64.
Relationships

- Senior Brother Ding — Reports Zhang Jing’s abilities and brings him to their first meeting 48 49.
