Lucian descended from the sky, landing directly in front of the manor's main building.
The blast of air from his landing toppled the two stone statues by the entrance, and the heavy wooden doors burst inward. Several servants crouched on the ground in fright. The old butler raised a hunting rifle with trembling hands, but never dared lift its muzzle.
"The master isn't here."
"I know who you are, and I know why you've come."
Lucian walked up to him and pressed a hand against the barrel.
"Where is he?"
The old butler's lips turned pale.
"He left. All he said was that he was going somewhere safe. We're just salaried staff. We don't know anything."
He certainly ran fast.
"Relax. I don't kill servants."
Lucian pinched the barrel flat between two fingers and casually tossed it aside.
"Let me borrow your memories."
"Wait, what are you-"
His palm landed on the old butler's head.
Fragmented images flashed rapidly past.
A black bulletproof car driving into the manor before dawn, several guards in military uniforms, and the pass on the car door.
Northern New York State. Air Force Joint Base.
"Hiding in a military base?"
Lucian removed his hand.
The old butler's legs gave out, and he sank to the ground, gasping for breath.
"We really weren't involved!"
"Mm."
Lucian glanced over the servants around him. Apart from fear and their monthly salaries, there really was nothing else in their minds.
No need to waste time.
The ground burst apart with a thunderous crash as Lucian shot into the sky, heading straight for the military base.
Meanwhile, inside the base's underground operations conference room.
The Jewish shareholder sat on a spacious leather sofa, holding a glass of bourbon. Despite his best efforts to hide it, his expression still betrayed him.
