The three of them were giving Lucian a headache with their bickering. He stopped and glanced at them.
Darcy seemed to have found a lifeline and hurriedly pressed him. "She really won't die? How do you know? What's happening to her right now?"
"She's fine for now."
Lucian thought for a moment, then casually offered some reassurance. "An ancient alien energy has taken up residence inside her. It's using her as an incubator. As long as that energy hasn't been completely drained, she's actually healthier than all three of you. Ordinary bullets can't even pierce her skin right now."
Of course, once the Aether had drained most of her life force, that would be another story. But Lucian had no intention of saying that in front of these science nerds, lest they start wailing on the spot.
Darcy patted her chest and let out a long sigh of relief, but her brows immediately knotted again. "Then what do we do now? We can't just stand here watching, can we? Should we call the Avengers? Or contact the United Nations?"
"Don't call anyone."
Lucian looked at Darcy. "Stay here and wait. She'll fall out of here on her own in a few hours at the earliest, or a day or two at the latest."
Darcy froze for a moment, then nodded repeatedly. "Okay, we'll wait! Then... what happens after she comes out? Do we take her straight to the hospital?"
Lucian's lips twitched as he continued, "If nothing unexpected happens, when she comes out, someone in a red cape carrying a big iron hammer will come crashing down from the sky to find her. You know Thor, right?"
Darcy's eyes instantly lit up. "Thor? Jane's alien boyfriend, the one she talks about all day, who left for two whole years?"
