Background / History

Birth and upbringing

Yu Songqing is the biological son of musicians Yu Sisheng and Ning Qing, whose relationship and private marriage were concealed from the public. During her pregnancy, Ning Qing was kidnapped by a jealous junior musician and subsequently involved in a car accident. She died from an amniotic fluid embolism during childbirth. The circumstances surrounding the accident and her child were suppressed 110 112.

Before dying, Ning Qing entrusted her child to Yu Sisheng and her friend Zhao Yali. Zhao Yali later married Yu Sisheng and raised Songqing as her own son; he grew up believing she was his biological mother. Yu Sisheng subsequently died of lung cancer, and Zhao Yali married Mu Yuanhao the following year and had Mu Niansheng 109 112.

Songqing experienced his upbringing as emotionally distant and tightly controlled. Zhao Yali directed him toward music and dance, sent him to an arts academy abroad, and arranged his entry into a talent competition. She excluded him from company affairs while preparing Niansheng for them, leading Songqing to believe she favored her younger son. He also believed his stepfather undermined him and spoke against him to Zhao Yali 13 25.

Talent-show debut and *Leisurely Little House*

Songqing trained in dance from childhood and distinguished himself in the same talent competition as Gu Nian'an. His debut song, “Butterfly Dream,” brought him rapid popularity, and Ji Baiwei praised his musical talent 3 29.

Their earlier relationship was strained by a clothing controversy and Gu Nian'an's previous behavior. When they reunited for Leisurely Little House, Songqing remained suspicious despite receiving an apology. The reversal deepened his resentment: the family that had imposed music on him was now taking it away after he had come to embrace it. Overwhelmed by unfamiliar company work, he found comfort in Gu Nian'an's messages and his hope of hearing Songqing sing again 25 29.

At his farewell concert, Songqing closed with “Butterfly Dream.” Gu Nian'an attended and gave him magnolias symbolizing everlasting friendship. Songqing treasured the gift, although its explicitly friendly meaning disappointed his romantic hopes 30.

Family revelation and salvation

Yu Meng identified Songqing as the remaining Pillar who needed Gu Nian'an's help. His suffering had recurred across countless lifetimes, with Zhao Yali appearing repeatedly in those nightmares. Gu Nian'an enlisted Fu Xiuyuan to investigate his family, uncovering Ning Qing's connection to him and the suppressed circumstances of her death 103 109 110 113.

At Fu Xiuyuan's banquet, Zhao Yali explained that she regarded Songqing as her own child. She had originally kept him away from company struggles to protect him and fulfill his birth parents' wish that he become a musician. Niansheng's accident had left her unable to manage those struggles without Songqing's help 112 113.

Songqing overheard the conversation and learned that Ning Qing was his biological mother. He suffered a severe breakdown, blaming himself for her death and interpreting his own resentment toward Zhao Yali as another wrong. As painful fragments flooded his consciousness, Gu Nian'an transmitted warm starlight into him, calming him and clearing the fragments. Songqing accepted Zhao Yali's embrace and called her “Mom” 113.

Afterward, Gu Nian'an reassured him that his suffering was over. Songqing could not fully explain what he had experienced, but understood that Gu Nian'an had helped him and thanked him before leaving with Zhao Yali 114.

Return to the stage

Songqing later arranged another concert and invited Gu Nian'an to attend with Zhao Yali and Mu Niansheng. Although an official comeback date had not yet been announced, the concert and promised new song prompted widespread excitement among his fans 117.

He performed “Redemption,” a song about confinement, recurring pain, starlight, and freedom. At the concert's close, he publicly thanked his mother, brother, and Gu Nian'an. Having reconciled with his family, he planned to return control of the company to Niansheng once his brother recovered, while continuing to sing and help the family 118 119.

He is deeply affected by small acts of consideration. Gu Nian'an remembering his preferences, bringing him food, and taking his hand matter to him because he is accustomed to others making decisions without asking what he wants. Even over messages, he may spend more than ten minutes composing a brief reply 21 25.
