Quel'Thalas, the foremost front in Eversong Woods.
This had once been the Sin'dorei's frontline battlefield against the undead. Countless elven champions lay buried here. To commemorate their sacrifice and guard against attacks by the large groups of undead still roaming the Ghostlands, this defensive line had not been dismantled after the war against the undead ended. A fully armed ranger legion and mage legion were stationed here year-round.
But the Undead Scourge was no longer a significant threat, and the new commander of the Night's Watch had no interest in dealing with the undead of varying quality in the Ghostlands, so the fighting here had truly settled down.
With Quel'Thalas situated on a peninsula, the sages of the Phoenix Dynasty had discussed the matter for a long time before finally deciding to leave the undead in the Ghostlands. Although these risen dead had nearly destroyed the nation before, now these wandering undead would instead become its best protection.
Quel'Thalas needed time to recuperate, but an unexpected war disrupted every carefully planned rhythm of the nation.
"The trolls are charging!"
An elven ranger shouted himself hoarse, then drew his great bow and fired the four arrows in his hand in rapid succession, knocking two Amani trolls who had charged into the lines to the ground. But a moment later, a throwing axe hurled by a troll axethrower struck the brave ranger, its tremendous force sending him flying several meters backward.
The stone axe tore through his skin and internal organs. Lying on the ground, the young elf gasped for breath, yet could not feel any air at all. After struggling to hold on for a few seconds, he collapsed on the soil of Eversong Woods' foremost front, clinging to one last trace of longing for life.
His sacrifice was not worthless.
