Ch. 61Quel'Thalas bathed in blood

Quel'Thalas prepared for Arthas's invasion as Anasterian struggled to evacuate its civilians and Dick fought on the southern front. After another costly battle, Dick and Halduron worried over Arthas's absence and Dar'Khan's unexplained disappearance, suspecting a hidden plot.

  • Anasterian ordered civilians evacuated to Sunstrider Isle and Quel'Danas, then sought help from the Order of the Silver Hand to shelter the rest in Lordaeron.
  • The undead and High Elves fought a brutal battle at the three southern sanctums, with Holy Water helping the defenders inflict heavy losses.
  • Dick and Mael-Dawnblade led twenty-six Elven Paladins into the undead ranks and helped repel another assault at An'owyn Sanctum.
  • Dick returned to Silvermoon City and found Liadrin still unconscious in the Hall of Light.
  • Halduron told Dick that Sylvanas had killed a death knight, while Arthas remained absent and Dar'Khan's magical traces had vanished.
  • Dick and Halduron suspected Dar'Khan's betrayal concealed a deeper secret.

Ch. 62The prince returns

Kael'thas returned to Silvermoon City with Krasus and Rhonin to help defend Quel'Thalas, and Anasterian gave him command of the Firewing Guard and tasked him with finding Dar'Khan. The chapter ended with Rhonin spotting Dick in the streets of Silvermoon City.

  • Halduron welcomed the news that Kael'thas had arrived, while Dick left the Hall of Light still troubled by an unexplained feeling of unease.
  • Kael'thas introduced Krasus and Rhonin to Anasterian and the Silvermoon Council, but Sylvanas interrupted to object to Rhonin being called Vereesa's husband before leaving for the front.
  • Anasterian put Kael'thas in command of the Firewing Guard and ordered him to stop the undead invasion, find Dar'Khan, and disable the defensive runes.
  • Kael'thas told Anasterian that Krasus would help track Dar'Khan in exchange for permission to study the Sunwell after the war, and agreed to meet Dick.
  • Krasus encouraged Rhonin after Sylvanas rejected his relationship with Vereesa, and Rhonin recognized Dick walking through the deserted streets.

Ch. 63Conspiracy

Dick realized Dar'Khan was conspiring with demons to use the Sunwell to summon a great demon, but his warning arrived too late. Dar'Khan activated the Purple Key, opening dark-green rifts across Silvermoon City and calling the Burning Legion to Azeroth.

  • Dick recognized that Dar'Khan's supposed alliance with Arthas was a decoy and warned Sylvanas that demons were his real allies.
  • Krasus led Kael'thas, Rhonin, and the Firewing Guard to Dar'Khan's hidden laboratory beneath Silvermoon City.
  • Dick sent a warning through a Communications Stone, urging Kael'thas to capture Dar'Khan and stop him from opening a Portal.
  • Dar'Khan exploded the Purple Key before the group could stop him, opening spatial rifts throughout Silvermoon City and summoning the demons.

Ch. 64The prisoner

After demons emerged through Spatial Rifts across Silvermoon City and the undead attacked the front lines, Dick realized his actions had helped push Azeroth toward a demonic invasion. He urged King Anasterian to destroy the Sunwell, but the king had him imprisoned and ordered the defense of the city and front lines.

  • Dick and Anasterian learned that the Communications Stone had shattered, while Lana'thel reported demons pouring through Spatial Rifts across Silvermoon City and a Spellbreaker reported an undead assault on the sanctums.
  • Dick realized the demons could use the Sunwell to bring Archimonde and Kil'jaeden into the world, and feared his changes to history had made the invasion more dangerous.
  • Kael'thas returned with Rhonin and the Firewing Guard and explained that Dar'Khan had bound the multiplying rifts to Silvermoon City's Defensive Runes; Sylvanas then shot a hidden succubus.
  • Dick demanded that Anasterian destroy the Sunwell to deny the demons its power, but Anasterian struck him and ordered the Spellbreakers to imprison him.
  • Anasterian ordered Kael'thas to seal the rifts and Sylvanas to hold the front, while he took the Spellbreakers to guard the Sunwell; Rhonin privately concluded Dick's warning could come true.

Ch. 65The prince and the prisoner

As demons and undead threatened Quel'Thalas, Kael'thas visited the imprisoned Dick and learned that the Sunwell’s energy had made the high elves dependent on arcane power. Dick claimed he could cure that dependence, and Kael'thas agreed to join his plan, leaving their alliance poised to begin.

  • Kael'thas oversaw the evacuation of civilians from Sunsail Anchorage and considered how to defend Quel'Thalas on two fronts.
  • Kael'thas apologized to Dick in the Mana Prison but refused to release him until the war ended.
  • Dick warned Kael'thas that the demons and undead would overwhelm Quel'Thalas and explained that the high elves would collapse without the Sunwell’s arcane energy.
  • Kael'thas reacted with alarm when Dick revealed the secret of the high elves’ mana addiction and asked how he knew it.
  • Dick said he had a way to cure the addiction, and Kael'thas lowered the prison barrier and agreed to join him.

Ch. 66A substitute

Kael'thas and Dick proposed destroying the Sunwell to stop the demons, with Arcan'dor as a cure for the high elves’ mana addiction. Kael'thas sent an expedition to the Broken Isles to find its seeds, while Silvermoon City prepared to hold out for seven days.

  • Lana'thel reported that demons were gathering around Silvermoon City and powerful beings in the void were targeting the Sunwell.
  • Kael'thas announced his plan to destroy the Sunwell, and Dick explained mana addiction and proposed finding Arcan'dor to cure it.
  • Dick revealed that Suramar and Arcan'dor had survived near the Maelstrom on the Broken Isles, and Kael'thas gave the expedition seven days to find seeds.
  • Rothman agreed to lead the expedition, joined by Halduron, Capernian, Sanguinar, and navigator Parsa'reyn.
  • Kael'thas vowed to defend Silvermoon City while the expedition searched for Arcan'dor, and those gathered joined Dick in declaring that the city would never fall.

Ch. 67Curtain Rises

Kael'thas began evacuating Quel'Danas and preparing to destroy the Sunwell, but Anasterian revealed that the Sunwell had a soul of its own. When demons attacked the island, Anasterian joined the effort to redirect the Sunwell's explosion, while Arthas led a hidden troop toward the battle.

  • Kael'thas ordered the civilians and residents of Quel'Danas to evacuate through Portals to Eastweald, angering Anasterian as he prepared to detonate the Sunwell.
  • Kael'thas told Anasterian that the Sunwell had to be destroyed to stop the demons and said that Rothman and Halduron had found a replacement, but Anasterian revealed that the Sunwell had nurtured a soul.
  • A Pit Lord and other demons attacked Quel'Danas as a rift opened over the sea, and Dick warned that the demons must be kept from reaching the Sunwell.
  • Kael'thas, Sylvanas, Dick, and the Spellbreakers rushed into battle, while Anasterian ordered the mages to channel the Sunwell's explosion toward the sea and Silvermoon City.
  • Arthas led a troop of black-cloaked riders through demon-occupied Silvermoon City toward Quel'Danas, intending to turn the demons' plans to his advantage.

Ch. 68Luring the tiger from the mountain

Kael'thas and Dick fought to hold back the demons attacking Quel'Danas, but Dick discovered that Arthas had reached the Sunwell. The chapter ended with Dick warning Kael'thas to return before Arthas could act.

  • Kael'thas trapped the Pit Lord in a depression, but it attacked the Spellbreakers and killed fourteen of them before his Flamestrike scroll halted the demons approaching from the sea.
  • Kael'thas unleashed his phoenix Oh against the Pit Lord while new spatial rifts appeared along the battlefield.
  • Dick battled the Infernal Giant and destroyed its unstable Fel Flame Core, which blasted him into the air.
  • Dick spotted Arthas riding toward the Sunwell with his Runeblade and realized the demon attack had been a diversion.
  • Dick shouted to Kael'thas that Arthas was at the Sunwell and urged him to return.

Ch. 69The fall

Dick reached Sunwell Hall as Arthas fought Kael'thas and tried to stop Lor'themar Theron from using Kel'Thuzad's ashes, but the ashes entered the Sunwell before Dick could intervene. The chapter ended with Dick shot by a bone arrow and plunging toward the corrupted well water.

  • Kael'thas drained the Pit Lord's fel energy and life force, then teleported with Dick to the Sunwell steps.
  • Kael'thas entered Sunwell Hall, leaving Dick to fight Thassarian; Dick spared him and sent him away to seek redemption.
  • Dick found Marwyn dead and reached the Sunwell's core, where Arthas and Kael'thas battled while Anasterian lay wounded.
  • Dick saw Lor'themar Theron throw Kel'Thuzad's ashes into the Sunwell Water, spreading dark energy across its surface.
  • A bone arrow pierced Dick's arm as he swung from the second-floor railing, and he fell toward the well.

Ch. 70Light-Anveena

Dick fell into the corrupted Sunwell and called for Anveena, the life nurtured within it, as Arthas and Theron pressed Kael'thas and demons threatened Quel'Danas. Anveena finally answered, but she was angry and refused to save the Elves who had imprisoned her.

  • Theron watched Dick sink into the Sunwell, then joined Arthas in attacking Kael'thas while Dick struggled against the dark vortex.
  • Dick realized Anveena was his only hope and shouted for her to emerge before the Sunwell's corruption consumed him.
  • Arthas and Theron gained ground against Kael'thas as demons overwhelmed the defenders at Quel'Danas and a Great Demon began emerging through a rift.
  • Dick's Divine Shield shattered, and he was swept into the vortex as he begged Anveena to save the Elves.
  • Anveena appeared in golden light and told Dick she would not save the Elves because they had imprisoned her for six thousand eight hundred years.

Ch. 71Freedom

Dick met Anveena, the Sunwell spirit and daughter of Elune, and persuaded her to lend him the Sunwell’s power to fight Arthas. After helping Kael'thas escape, Dick fled the Sunwell Hall as Anasterian activated the Greater Disintegration Array, ending an era.

  • Dick learned that Anveena hated the High Elves because Dath'Remar had imprisoned her in the Sunwell, and he promised to take her to Elune and her celestial siblings if she helped him.
  • Anveena sent Dick out of the Sunwell and gave him its essence, empowering him as he drove Arthas back and severely wounded him.
  • Anveena warned Dick that he could not control the Sunwell’s power outside the hall, so he sent Kael'thas after Arthas while he tried to save Anasterian.
  • Anasterian gave Dick Flamestrike for Kael'thas, named his son the next Sun King, and remained behind to activate the Greater Disintegration Array.
  • Dick dragged Kael'thas from the hall and through the portal as a beam of white light erupted from the Sunwell.

Ch. 72The phoenix's rebirth

Sylvanas and the defenders fought to hold back the demonic invasion until the Sunwell drove the Great Demon back, though its final strike devastated Quel'Thalas. After Kael'thas mourned his father, Dick gave him Flamestrike and proclaimed him king as the High Elves swore loyalty to him as the Sin'dorei.

  • Sylvanas killed a red Felguard commander with a Chimaera Shot, then used her sabers when she ran out of arrows.
  • Mael-Dawnblade and the surviving Paladins held the line while the mages bombarded the demons and the Spatial Rift continued to widen.
  • The Sunwell sent two beams of power toward the rift and Silvermoon City, forcing the Great Demon back into the Void before its final strike shattered Quel'Thalas's defenses and sank part of Quel'Danas.
  • Kael'thas blamed Dick for leaving Anasterian behind and punched him, but Sylvanas pulled him away.
  • Dick gave Kael'thas Flamestrike and asked him to carry on Anasterian's legacy; Kael'thas vowed to restore Quel'Thalas and named its people the Sin'dorei.
  • The elves swore allegiance to Kael'thas, and Dick proclaimed him king in Anasterian's name.

Ch. 73Anveena-Fire of Justice

Dick discovered that Anveena had moved into Fire of Justice and negotiated limits on her control of the weapon, while Kael'thas became the new Sun King and began rebuilding Quel'Thalas. A month later, as the elves returned and settled under an agreement with the Silver Hand, Dick reunited with Jaina and watched Kael'thas's coronation begin.

  • Dick handed Flamestrike to Kael'thas, who awakened its power and transformed it into Sunstrider's Pride.
  • Dick found Anveena living inside Fire of Justice; she agreed to remove its barrier only when he urgently needed the hammer, leaving it half-sealed in ordinary circumstances.
  • Dick reflected that his intervention had saved Sylvanas, preserved the Sunstrider succession, and spared hundreds of thousands of elves from death.
  • Kael'thas named the fel-scarred ravine the Dead Scar, organized defenses, and planned a new capital on Sunstrider Isle as elven refugees returned.
  • Kael'thas's government agreed with the Silver Hand to settle elven refugees in territories across Hillsbrad Foothills, the Arathi Highlands, and Eastweald while Quel'Thalas was rebuilt.
  • Dick reunited with Jaina at Sunstrider Isle, and the two watched Kael'thas's coronation ceremony begin.

Ch. 74Final Volume: Red Maple Leaves Fluttered

Kael'thas was crowned Sun King as Dick completed his major quest and collapsed from a new power, while Jaina took him away through a portal. Meanwhile, Arthas and Kel'Thuzad began plotting to summon Archimonde through Dalaran, Magni forged Ashbringer, and Uther emerged transformed and ready to confront Arthas.

  • Kael'thas was crowned Sun King, and the phoenix and falling maple leaves marked the Sin'dorei's return to having a king.
  • Dick received quest rewards and attained Lord Rank, then collapsed as Jaina carried him through a portal to safety.
  • Kel'Thuzad revealed the Lich King's plan to Arthas, and they agreed to help Archimonde descend upon the world by seizing Dalaran.
  • Magni Bronzebeard finished forging Ashbringer after learning that Muradin had died.
  • Uther emerged from the ruined Wizard's Tower with a blood-red runeblade and told Alexandros he was ready to settle the score with Arthas.

Ch. 75Oh, followers!

Darion fought undead in Eastweald while Dick’s regiment trained recruits and prepared to receive an elven commander. Dick remained incapacitated by his painful transformation into a lord, and the chapter ended with him confronting the unexpected arrival of Liadrin Delor as his first follower.

  • Darion killed a death knight with the Blade of Wrath and ordered recruits to search the battlefield.
  • Dick’s Stratholme Regiment remained stretched thin by its garrison at Deatholme Fortress, while Dick secretly trained recruits to become Blood Knights.
  • Major Herod drilled Eastweald recruits harshly and then led Darion toward headquarters to meet the arriving elven commander, Knight Myra.
  • Dick remained physically and magically sealed during his lord-rank transformation, with more than four days left in the process.
  • Liadrin Delor became Dick’s first follower, and Norgannon’s power bound their fates together.

Ch. 76The Ashbringer returns

Dick confronted Alexandros Mograine, who had returned with the Ashbringer and wanted to take Darion away. Alexandros then told Dick that Frostmourne had transformed Uther into a cruel, dangerous being, leaving them to face a monster they had helped create.

  • Jaina visited Dick, and they discussed her return to Dalaran before Herod reported that Alexandros had come for Darion.
  • Dick calmed the gathered Stratholme Regiment knights and recognized the Ashbringer on Alexandros's back.
  • Dick brought Alexandros, Darion, Herod, and Jaina to regiment headquarters to hear Alexandros's concerns.
  • Alexandros explained that Uther had resisted Frostmourne's corruption but had become cruel, malicious, and bound to the sword.
  • Alexandros warned Dick that the runeblade had saved Uther while turning him into a monster even more terrifying than Arthas.

Ch. 77Legend of the Artifacts

Dick explained that the Ashbringer, Fire of Justice, Apocalypse, and Frostmourne embodied different aspects of power, reassuring Alexandros Mograine that Uther could resist Apocalypse. Mograine accepted Darion’s choice to follow the warrior’s path, while Dick realized the Scourge was gathering in Tirisfal and Jaina asked him to help with her graduation paper.

  • Dick asked Alexandros Mograine what he sensed in the Ashbringer and explained that it embodied retribution, while Fire of Justice embodied redemption.
  • Dick told Mograine that Apocalypse tempted its wielder but could not control Uther unless he submitted, and Mograine confirmed that the runeblade had whispered to him.
  • Darion’s Blade of Wrath reacted violently to the Ashbringer, and Mograine recognized it as an artifact before telling Darion to train with the Stratholme Regiment.
  • Mograine left to return to West Darrowmere with the Ashbringer, while Dick read reports that the Scourge was assembling in Tirisfal and suspected Dalaran was their target.
  • Jaina asked Dick to help her write her graduation paper about the artifacts and their powers.

Ch. 78The enormous pit the Young Lady dug

Dick visited Dalaran with Jaina and faced questions from its Archmages about the extraordinary knowledge behind her thesis. After invoking Nozdormu to support his claim that he had learned it through time travel, Dick left the Archmages willing to discuss Ebonchill instead.

  • Dick arrived in Dalaran with Jaina and explored the city with her before visiting her tower.
  • Dick recalled his conflict with Alexandros Mograine over training commoner Paladins and considered moving the Stratholme Regiment to Quel'Thalas.
  • Krasus questioned Dick about the source of the knowledge in Jaina's thesis, while Antonidas challenged Dick's claim that Medivh had taught him.
  • Dick claimed he had gained the knowledge through time travel and invoked Nozdormu, who froze time and warned Dick not to use his name to deceive people again.
  • Krasus realized Dick could communicate with Nozdormu, and Antonidas ended the interrogation by turning the discussion to Ebonchill.

Ch. 79Persuasion

Dick sent Jaina to the Burning Steppes with Modera, then tried to persuade Antonidas that Dalaran should prepare for the undead threat and establish a fallback at Karazhan. Antonidas received word that Arthas and Kel'Thuzad had appeared in Tirisfal and the Gilneas defensive line had fallen, leaving the undead army marching on Dalaran.

  • Dick sent Jaina through a portal to the Burning Steppes with Modera and a squad of battle mages, after arranging for her to keep Ebonchill until she no longer needed it.
  • Dick warned Antonidas that the undead might be targeting Dalaran, but Antonidas insisted the city's defenses and Gilneas Brigade could hold them back.
  • Dick asked Antonidas about his friendship with Medivh and revealed that Medivh had a son named Med'an, whose mother was Garona.
  • Dick urged Antonidas to help reclaim Karazhan with the Stratholme Regiment and move Dalaran's apprentices to the Southern Kingdoms as a fallback.
  • A magical letter informed Antonidas that Arthas and Kel'Thuzad had appeared in Tirisfal and the Gilneas Brigade's defensive line had been breached.

Ch. 80Joining the battle!

Dick arrived at Fenris Isle and persuaded Gath'riss and the battered Fourth Legion to hold The Sepulcher until the Stratholme Regiment could join the battle. That night, assassins killed Major General Genn at the Gilneas Brigade's camp and burned it, leaving the fate of the retreating Gilnean soldiers unresolved.

  • Dick arrived at Fenris Isle, where the surviving soldiers cheered him and he healed their wounded.
  • Dick treated Gath'riss and told him the Stratholme Regiment would take responsibility for The Sepulcher's defenses, but the Fourth Legion had to hold the line for two days.
  • Gath'riss ordered the Fourth Legion to march to The Sepulcher and fight to the last man.
  • At the Gilneas Brigade's camp near Pyrewood Village, Major General Genn agonized over his secret retreat order and Gilneas's betrayal of the Fourth Legion.
  • Three assassins attacked Genn, and one told him that the Fourth Legion and Dick sent their regards before he died.
  • The assassins burned the camp and its Gilnean banner.
