"You people are so intent on killing."
"Why does everyone keep thinking about killing people?"
"Killing is against the law!"
Yu Sheng scratched his head in some distress.
In just a few short days, several people had kept talking to him about killing.
It had even given him the illusion...
Were the people in Sin City friendlier?
Du Xu was a little subdued. After spending a long time gathering his words, he explained again, "I'm not very good with words. What I mean is... I want to get stronger."
"Once you go bald, you'll get stronger!"
Thinking of a manga he had read online a while ago, Yu Sheng offered this earnest advice.
Du Xu looked thoughtful and said no more.
Yu Sheng leaned against the window, finally able to enjoy a moment of peace.
After continuously absorbing gray energy over the past few days, the bottom of the Dragon-Patterned Staff in the scroll had completely solidified, but the egg had shown no reaction at all.
It was as though the two were unrelated.
Had my earlier guess been wrong?
For a time, Yu Sheng sank into thought.
Back at school, almost all the students chose to go home.
Wang Wenxuan, however, showed no intention of leaving. Instead, he shamelessly stuck to Yu Sheng's side. In his words, he was afraid Yu Sheng might run into danger and had to protect him personally.
Then he would accompany Yu Sheng to Baichun City to exchange his money.
Before leaving, Zhao Zicheng shot Yu Sheng another inexplicable look, while Du Xu hurried away, as though he had grasped the true meaning of life.
"Hehe, my friend Yu."
"Wouldn't you say we've rested enough?"
"Time to..."
Wang Wenxuan rubbed his hands and asked with an ingratiating air, showing none of the bearing expected of an expert.
Yu Sheng gave him a lingering look. "I just got out of the car."
"No rush, no rush."
"Get some rest first."
Wang Wenxuan chuckled awkwardly and followed behind Yu Sheng, never straying a step, not knowing what to do with his hands or feet.
It was hard to imagine that this man, known to countless people in Baichun City as "Madman Wang," could ever be so well-behaved.
After all, he even dared to talk back when his boss reprimanded him.
Money...
Really could do anything.
How could a proud man bow for five bushels of rice?
Unless it was five bushels of golden rice.
"I'm here to turn in the mission."
Yu Sheng pushed open the principal's office door and spoke as he looked at the principal's slightly balding head.
The principal wore a warm smile. "I've heard, but the assessment results aren't out yet, so the exact rankings are still uncertain. Since this is a transaction, let's wait until everything is settled..."
Yu Sheng nodded in agreement, then turned to Wang Wenxuan. "What place do you think I came in?"
"First!"
"Definitely first!"
Wang Wenxuan answered without hesitation.
Yu Sheng looked back at the principal. "Now... I'm first."
The principal: ???
Are you fucking kidding me?
How the hell does that make you first?
You just grab some passerby and ask your own ranking, and whatever he says goes?
Where the fuck did this nobody crawl out from?
Fraud!
This is definitely fraud!
Even the lowest-grade Demon Crystals were expensive.
Three of them...
"Sorry for the trouble, but may I ask who this gentleman is?"
In front of Yu Sheng, he maintained his dignity as principal and did not get angry. Instead, he looked at Wang Wenxuan and asked, still wearing that pleasant, welcoming smile.
"I think he's... from the provincial office." Yu Sheng thought for a moment and answered uncertainly, then added, "Yes, he should have the final say in this assessment."
The instant Yu Sheng finished speaking, a gust of wind seemed to sweep past him.
When he looked again, the principal had darted past him with an agility wholly at odds with his age and firmly clasped Wang Wenxuan's hand, pumping it up and down.
"Oh my, an official from the provincial office! Forgive my manners!"
That welcoming warmth, upgraded!
He beamed with delight!
There was even a hint of anticipation, joy, excitement, and respect.
For a moment, several different emotions appeared simultaneously in the principal's little eyes. Compared with Yu Sheng's clumsy acting, the principal could only be described as an award-winning actor.
His prematurely balding forehead even reflected a faint gleam in the sunlight.
"Just what I'd expect of an official from the provincial office. Young, accomplished, and handsome too."
"Nothing like this little place of ours. Ah..."
As he spoke, just the right touch of sadness appeared on the principal's face, and he sighed softly. "No money, no resources. All we can do is watch one gifted child after another amount to nothing because they lack resources."
"As their principal, it breaks my heart!"
"Thinking about it now, I wish I could drag this old, broken body back to Demon-Suppressing Pass, despite my grave illness, and fight and plunder for these poor children."
"To give them a stepping stone toward progress!"
The principal's words rang with conviction, his eyes brimming with a fervor willing to die for the Human Race and his students.
The entire office was filled with a sense of tragic heroism.
Wang Wenxuan looked rather strangely at the principal, who was only in his early forties and still in his prime, and fell silent for a moment.
He's old already?
His body's broken already?
I don't see any grave illness, either.
Still, he had certainly set the mood well. For a moment, even Wang Wenxuan felt his blood beginning to stir.
"Director Sun?"
"Come here a moment!"
The principal opened the door and called outside.
The middle-aged woman with thick-framed glasses and a solemn expression, who looked exceedingly meticulous, came over from next door and looked at the principal.
"Go have the cafeteria prepare a table of good food."
"Today, I'm going to have a heart-to-heart with this official from the provincial office over plenty of drinks!"
"I'm sure he'll see our difficulties and allocate us some funding."
The principal placed heavy emphasis on "provincial office," "official," and "funding." While Wang Wenxuan still looked rather bewildered, it somehow seemed as though something had already been settled.
"School rule number three: no extravagance or waste."
"This would count as misappropriating public funds."
Director Sun pushed up her glasses and spoke quietly.
"Deduct it from my salary!"
"Don't embarrass us in front of our guest!"
The principal glared at Director Sun and spoke through gritted teeth, stressing every word!
"Yes, Principal." Director Sun nodded, turned, and left without a single unnecessary word.
As the principal turned back, his smile returned, his whole face bunching up like a flower in full bloom. "May I ask which department you hold your position in?"
"The Reserve Corps."
Wang Wenxuan answered in a daze.
The next second...
The smile on the principal's face gradually froze, and he quietly released Wang Wenxuan's hand. "Oh..."
"The Reserve Corps."
After murmuring those words, the principal hurried outside. His shouts could still be heard in the corridor. "Director Sun, come back!"
"Forget what I just said!"
"Fuck... why are you so efficient?!"
"It's only been a few minutes, and you've already given the kitchen the menu??"
The principal's anguished wails echoed through the corridor.
Before you continue
