"I still don't know your name. After you kill yourself, what am I supposed to tell the Guard Bureau so they can contact your family..."
Yu Sheng once again asked a very reasonable question.
The boy fell silent, forcibly suppressed his anger, and tried to speak calmly. "My name is... Li Yihan. Any more questions?"
"No."
Yu Sheng thought seriously for a moment, then shook his head.
Li Yihan watched Yu Sheng suspiciously for a long time before tentatively raising his hand. He traced the blade against his neck for a while, and only when Yu Sheng made no objection did he slowly close his eyes, once again... looking back on his life.
"He's killing himself."
Suddenly, Li Yihan sensed a glaring light. He numbly opened his eyes to find that Yu Sheng had taken out his phone at some point and turned on its light, aiming it at him as he recorded.
He had even thoughtfully offered an explanation.
Noticing Li Yihan's gaze, Yu Sheng hesitantly explained, "Uh, I have to keep some evidence."
"Are you a devil??"
"Will you ever stop!!"
"Huh??"
"Weren't you the one who told me to die... Hiss... Didn't you tell me to die?"
"What are you doing?"
"Hiss..."
"Fuck, fuck!"
"Hiss... What did I do to deserve this!"
Every time Li Yihan roared, he tore at his wounds. The pain stirred his emotions, making him curse again, tear them again, and curse again, over and over.
It was hard to imagine just how much resolve someone needed before dying.
For Li Yihan to overcome his fear several times already qualified him as strong-willed.
But after going through it too many times...
When Li Yihan raised the blade again, he discovered that he no longer had the resolve to bring it down.
Dejectedly, he tossed the blade onto the floor and slumped onto the sofa without bothering about the blood on the floor, pulling at his wounds again. He instinctively sucked in a breath of cold air and looked at Yu Sheng bleakly. "I don't know what a lunatic like you is thinking, but if you want me dead, I'll probably bleed to death in half an hour."
"If you don't want me to die, give me the medicine to stop the bleeding and the bandages."
He stared straight at Yu Sheng, waiting for the final answer.
Yu Sheng studied him with some curiosity. "Actually, what I'm more curious about is why you don't kill me."
"As the future world's number one assassin, I have my own professional ethics."
"Take someone's money, take care of their problems."
"Killing is my job, not my hobby."
"I can't kill you without receiving payment from a client."
At that moment, Li Yihan's expression was exceptionally solemn. He showed no sign of joking, and his eyes were full of seriousness.
Yu Sheng looked thoughtful. "Now I believe you're really an assassin."
"But why would anyone hire an assassin who hasn't even started awakening?"
"Is it because they're poor?"
Yu Sheng pressed him with considerable interest.
"I think you could give me the medicine before asking questions. Otherwise, I'm afraid I won't be able to answer many more."
Li Yihan glanced at the wound on his chest and spoke helplessly.
"There's no rush. If you don't get worked up again, you can probably last another thirty-two minutes."
Yu Sheng merely gave him a casual glance.
Just what kind of monster is he? Li Yihan kept feeling that Yu Sheng was more like an assassin than he was.
"I'll be an adult in half a month."
"I'll be able to undergo the Awakening Ceremony soon."
"So I lied about my age and took a job. I just didn't expect the gap between awakened and unawakened people to be so huge."
"Even though all he awakened was a spoon."
Li Yihan seemed somewhat dispirited as he said this.
Although that man's awakening object was utterly useless, his reaction speed and strength were far greater than Li Yihan's.
Even managing to escape meant he had been fairly quick on his feet.
"So... can you give me the medicine now?"
Li Yihan asked again.
Just then, another Guard Bureau patrol could be seen passing by outside the window.
Li Yihan instinctively leaned back, pulling at his wounds again, but kept his mouth tightly shut, refusing to make a sound.
Cold sweat kept dripping from his forehead.
"Don't worry. I've got someone in the Guard Bureau."
Yu Sheng, however, sounded quite optimistic.
Li Yihan froze. "Someone in your family works for the Guard Bureau?"
"No."
"My dad hired a prostitute. I just reported him and got him sent in."
"Unless something unexpected happened, he should be locked up in the Guard Bureau right now."
Yu Sheng shook his head. His words were plain and unadorned, and paired with his harmless face, they left Li Yihan at a loss for what to say.
The person before him clearly looked about his own age, with the same trace of youthfulness on his face and a thin, frail build, yet for some reason, Li Yihan kept having an illusion.
It was as though an overwhelming demon sat across from him, lurking in the darkness, ready at any moment to extend its blades and drag someone into an endless abyss.
"Put the medicine on first."
There was no telling what Yu Sheng was thinking. After a moment, he suddenly spoke, picked up the medicine, and tossed it beside Li Yihan.
Li Yihan let out a soft sigh of relief.
It seemed the person before him really had no intention of killing him.
Li Yihan took out a bottle of specially formulated liquid and carefully poured it over his wounds. Intense pain swept through his nerves, and his entire body twitched slightly, but he gritted his teeth and made no sound.
"Actually, I gave you chili water."
Yu Sheng suddenly spoke.
"You... Aah!!!"
"Fuck!"
Li Yihan abruptly looked at Yu Sheng, seemingly wanting to say something, but once he opened his mouth, he could no longer hold back and began to roar in pain.
Yu Sheng shrugged. "Just kidding. If it hurts, shout. Holding it in feels awful."
"Once you've put the bandages on, remember to clean the room for me."
"There's trash by the door. Take it with you when you leave."
"But you still owe me your life. I'll come find you if I need anything. Hopefully, you'll still be alive then."
As he spoke, Yu Sheng yawned, got up, returned to his bedroom, and lay down.
Li Yihan watched Yu Sheng's retreating figure with a complicated look in his eyes, his thoughts unknown.
"Actually... awakened people aren't as powerful as you imagine."
Standing at the bedroom doorway without turning around, Yu Sheng offered that remark out of nowhere, then shut the bedroom door.
"Really..."
"Maybe... Hiss, it hurts, it hurts! Fuck!"
Li Yihan had just been about to voice a few reflections when he could not help crying out in pain again.
