Even before opening his eyes, Zuo Cheng'an sensed that he was sitting in a swaying vehicle.
Something furry brushed his ankle. It was probably Mo Dou's body.
He looked around and found himself sitting in an open-sided sightseeing cart.
And the cart was traveling right beside a towering cliff!!
A cart like this, open on all sides, was especially breezy.
The road seemed to have been carved out by hand. Not only was it rough and uneven, it was also extremely narrow! There was barely enough room for one vehicle.
The cart's tires stayed half a palm's width from the cliff edge the entire time. It was a heart-stopping sight.
Zuo Cheng'an sat at the very back of the cart, on the side nearest the cliff.
If he got off on this side, there would be nowhere for him to put his feet! He would step straight into thin air and fall!
Mo Dou sat by his feet, tongue out in excitement as he enjoyed the strong wind. Li Yueqiu sat beside him.
As soon as she recovered from the weightless sensation of teleportation and realized where she was, she clutched the handrail beside her in fright, refusing to look toward the cliff no matter what.
Zheng Ren sat in the row facing away from them. Like Zuo Cheng'an, he had originally been sitting on the side nearest the cliff.
But once he realized what was happening, he silently shifted his backside, inching toward the rock face on the safer side.
The four members of the Wavebreaker Guild sat in pairs farther up front.
Zuo Cheng'an inspected both sides of his seat.
Great. No armrests or seat belts, just as expected.
If a normal person were driving on such dangerous terrain, they would definitely slow down and put safety first!
But the NPC was no normal person.
He floored the accelerator, racing down the rugged mountain road that barely had room for a single vehicle!
Li Yueqiu's tears were about to come flying out too.
She clung to the seatback in front of her with both hands, inwardly screaming, Heaven wants me dead!
Could this be the instance's first test? Only players who managed to jump out the moment the cart fell off the cliff would qualify to continue?
Was this what a level 2 instance was like? Only the strong deserved to be players who tackled instances?
By comparison, the four members of the Wavebreaker Guild were much calmer.
They seemed to have anticipated this situation and quickly took several rope items out of their game inventories.
They lashed themselves firmly to the cart.
The leader of the four was so busy telling the others what to do that he forgot to watch out for himself. When the driver suddenly took a sharp turn, he lost his footing, and half his body went over the side!
If his teammate hadn't reacted quickly and grabbed him, he would have become the instance's first casualty.
"Fuck! How the hell are you driving?! In a hurry to get reincarnated!?"
Normally, players wouldn't curse out an NPC without knowing the details of an instance, for fear of triggering some unknown danger.
But the members of the Wavebreaker Guild had internal guild information.
They knew that upon entering the instance, they would find themselves in an open-sided sightseeing cart traveling extremely fast, and that monsters would even attack later, so they had brought ropes just in case.
They also knew that the cart driver was just a mute background NPC. Never mind cursing at him-
They could kick him off the cliff and drive themselves without any consequences.
After all, the road beneath them was the only route into Sunny Village. They couldn't go the wrong way.
The only problem was this:
All the Wavebreaker Guild's information about the instance had come from a member who had used an item to leave the instance partway through.
The Wavebreaker Guild had conducted several more rounds of exploration afterward, confirming that what he had said was correct.
But even the guild member who had stayed in the instance the longest had only lasted two days.
It wasn't that no one had stayed in the instance longer.
Those people simply hadn't returned. They had died in the instance, so naturally, they hadn't brought back any new information.
After all, items that forcibly removed someone from an instance were almost all single-use, and they weren't cheap.
Those people might have been forced to stay in the instance, not because they wanted to gather more information, but because they couldn't leave even if they wanted to.
As such, the Wavebreaker Guild only had a brief guide to the instance's first two days. They knew nothing about what came afterward.
The little incident ended with the driver remaining silent and continuing at the same speed, doing exactly as he pleased.
Looking at the several sharp bends coming up ahead, Zheng Ren turned deathly pale.
"Cheng'an, how come you're not scared?"
This was his first time entering such a vast instance. With cliffs and dense forests, it was like a little world. The instances he had entered before had been either a corridor or a restaurant.
There was simply no comparing the three.
Zuo Cheng'an glanced at the clusters of eyeballs around them, which almost completely blocked the cliff from view. "Out of sight, out of mind."
Everything was blocked. He couldn't see a thing.
"Th-then, Ch-Ch-Ch-Cheng'an... we're not going to slide off with the cart later, are we?"
Zuo Cheng'an spared another glance at the barrage of comments filling his vision and answered casually.
"No. We wouldn't fall even if the driver drove with his eyes closed."
Because the cart was moving on its own, rather than being driven by the villager.
He was merely pressing the accelerator for show.
Zuo Cheng'an's words seemed to hold some kind of magic. Clearly, this was his first time entering this instance too, and he should have known nothing about the situation.
Yet Zheng Ren immediately relaxed and stopped being afraid.
He even moved to the seat closer to the cliff to admire the natural scenery that was so rarely seen in the safe zone.
Of course, his hands still gripped the railing tightly.
Just because the cart wouldn't fall didn't mean he wouldn't.
Several hair-raising sharp turns later,
The sightseeing cart was still traveling steadily along the road.
The players were no longer as frightened as when they had first entered the instance and relaxed a little.
Just then, the villager driving the cart made a new move.
He took his hands off the steering wheel and rummaged through a hanging basket beside the driver's seat.
One hand wasn't enough, so he used both. The sight left the players trembling with fear.
Just as the Wavebreaker Guild player sitting closest to the driver's seat could no longer hold back and was about to help steer,
The villager finally pulled out what he had been looking for: a battered loudspeaker.
He pressed the play button.
An old man's indistinct voice came from the loudspeaker, reciting a resort advertisement.
"Welcome to Sunny Village, honored guests. We offer a range of activities, including Jungle Treasure Hunt, Canyon Rafting, Ruins Exploration, and Bonfire Party. Ten days and nine nights of luxury accommodation, with room and board included! We guarantee you'll have a wonderful time..."
The old man seemed to be missing a couple of teeth, making certain sounds come out breathy.
His speech was also full of dialect and local expressions. Probably no one but a local could understand him.
Zuo Cheng'an simply focused his attention on the dense barrage of comments instead.
There were always busybodies active in the comments, doing things to attract attention.
Things like repeating NPC dialogue, translating text tucked away in obscure corners, or explaining things to other viewers.
Speaking of eyeballs, there seemed to be even more viewers in a level 2 instance.
Perhaps that was because this was a newly released instance with an extremely high death rate, which suited the viewers' tastes perfectly.
Hundreds upon thousands of eyeballs crowded together! Packed side by side, they completely blocked the surrounding natural scenery. Not even a single leaf showed through.
Sometimes, the Eye of Truth was quite troublesome.
If he entered higher-level instances in the future, would there be so many eyeballs that he couldn't even see the road?
This wouldn't do. Could he choose to see only the comments, without seeing the eyeballs?
