The man looked utterly bewildered. Then Tetsu no Sosuke knocked him unconscious.
Could water wake people up and break the control over them?
Tetsu no Sosuke glanced at the little water left in his flask and frowned.
Waking all these villagers and getting them out of here clearly wasn't realistic.
"Anyway, I'll keep looking. Come to think of it, where is Honmyo Yutaro?"
He stepped out of the alcove and continued exploring. Before long, he reached the end of the tunnel.
There was a pit at the end, filled with heaps of bones!
Chapter 451: The Killing Field
The stench was overwhelming!
Maggots writhed through the flesh still clinging to the bones in the pit.
"Human bones. All of them..."
Tetsu no Sosuke's brow tightened. No matter how many bloody battles he had survived, the sight of this was more than he could bear as a human being.
And the closer he looked, the angrier he became.
Without another word, he turned back to the fork and took the second passage.
The stench lingered in this tunnel too, though it was much weaker than in the first.
There were far more people, however.
Fortunately, the tunnel twisted and turned. Tetsu no Sosuke wound his way through without alerting them.
But the deeper he went, the stronger the smell of blood grew.
At the very end, he found a slaughterhouse.
The villagers moved in a daze. In the cavern's open space, some people had been stripped naked and hung from iron hooks like lambs awaiting slaughter. They were skinned, drained of blood, stripped from the bone, and carved up.
They had clearly been dead for some time. The other villagers, utterly unaware that they were butchering their own kind, went mechanically about their work.
