Dai Lan's words reminded Wu Jiangyuan, and he finally realized why that ID had rubbed him the wrong way.
Shining Star Candy? Any nickname with "candy" in it was an eyesore to him.
But he could count the people who knew his childhood nickname on one hand.
His parents were out of the question, his brother had said it wasn't him, and that brat Dai Lan was even less reliable.
After thinking it over and over, Wu Jiangyuan was left with just one name in his mind.
Pei Jinghe.
The moment that possibility occurred to him, Wu Jiangyuan's first reaction was to call himself crazy.
Why would Pei Jinghe shower him with lavish gifts worth tens of millions? Did he have nothing better to do?
Even if he had nothing better to do, surely he would never do something like that?
Wu Jiangyuan firmly told himself it was impossible, but his hand had already opened his chat with Pei Jinghe.
He just couldn't bring himself to send that question.
After dawdling for ages, he finally sent: [What are you doing?]
Once the message went through, Wu Jiangyuan turned off the screen, closed his eyes, and played dead.
Thoughts stormed through his mind. It couldn't be him.
No way. That ID must just be a coincidence. It just happened to have "candy" in it.
He spent a little time reassuring himself. It couldn't be Pei Jinghe.
He wanted to unsend that greeting, but more than two minutes had already passed.
So Wu Jiangyuan silently prayed that the guy wouldn't see it, or at least wouldn't reply if he did.
Speak of the devil.
His phone vibrated, and Pei Jinghe's reply popped up: [Just finished a meeting.]
Wu Jiangyuan stared at it for ages, unsure whether to reply.
Pei Jinghe had been in a meeting just now, so he couldn't have been the one behind this.
The mere thought of Pei Jinghe sitting stiff-faced in his office, phone in hand, madly showering a livestream with gifts was enough to make Wu Jiangyuan lose it.
When he didn't reply, Pei Jinghe sent another message: [Need something?]
3Q: [No. Mass message.]
The punchable guy with the permanently sour face: [?]
Wu Jiangyuan didn't reply to Pei Jinghe again.
Just as they were about to reach the company, the car abruptly braked at a corner.
Wu Jiangyuan nearly fell off his seat. He sighed helplessly. "What, is someone trying to stage an accident?"
"Worse than that!" The driver, Liu, turned around nervously. "Boss, look at the entrance to our company!"
Wu Jiangyuan and He Qu looked through the car window and saw reporters crowding the company entrance.
The reporters had surrounded the entrance so tightly that no one could get through. Security personnel were maintaining order, forming a human wall right across the doorway.
He Qu immediately saw what they were there for. "This is bad. They're probably all here because of that trending topic."
Wu Jiangyuan clicked his tongue. "There wasn't even this much fuss when I was rumored to be cheating."
He Qu said, "Enough with the wisecracks. If you show your face in front of them now, they'll 'tear you limb from limb.'"
Wu Jiangyuan said, "Then I won't go to the office."
He leaned back and shrugged. "I'll come back whenever they leave."
"That works. At least, you can't show yourself for now." He Qu asked, "Where are you going?"
Wu Jiangyuan lazily narrowed his eyes. "Home to sleep."
He Qu said, "Then I'll get out here. I have to go back to the office."
Wu Jiangyuan laughed. "Hope you don't get flattened into a meat patty."
He Qu said, "Silly boy. I can go up through the parking garage."
He had barely finished when Liu cut in. "Boss, I forgot to tell you. The reporters have surrounded the parking garage too."
The corner of He Qu's mouth twitched. "It's fine. Liu, take him home first. Leave the rest to me."
It was time for him to demonstrate his abilities as both a manager and a boss.
After saying goodbye to He Qu, Wu Jiangyuan received a call from Wu Chengnan on his way home.
"Did you find out, bro?"
"Yes." Wu Chengnan said, "Shining Star Candy is registered under a woman's real name. I've sent you her name and phone number."
Wu Jiangyuan's drowsiness vanished instantly. "Thanks, bro!"
Without Wu Chengnan, he could never have found the person behind that ID so quickly. Only his brother had that kind of ability.
"Oh, right." He suddenly stopped Wu Chengnan just before he hung up. "Can you find out where she is now?"
Wu Chengnan was silent for a moment before asking, "You're going to see her now?"
Wu Jiangyuan said, "Yes."
He had nothing to do right now anyway, and he really wanted to see just who this rich woman showering him with lavish gifts was.
Wu Chengnan said, "I've sent you her current IP address too."
Before hanging up, he made sure to warn Wu Jiangyuan, "Don't go overboard. I'm not cleaning up after you."
Wu Jiangyuan protested, "That's unfair! Is your little brother really that much of a troublemaker in your eyes?"
Wu Chengnan chuckled. "What do you think?"
With that, he mercilessly hung up.
Wu Jiangyuan muttered a curse at the phone, calling his brother an iron-faced tyrant.
He found Shining Star Candy's current IP location in the chat.
[No. XXXXX, Yunan Avenue-Xinyuan Building]
Wu Jiangyuan asked Liu to change course. After riding for a little over an hour, he reached his destination.
Standing before the building at the very heart of this commercial empire, he gazed at the enormous company logo and sank into thought.
-[Tangsheng]
Confusion gradually crept into Wu Jiangyuan's eyes. Why did he feel like he had heard that name somewhere before?
"Jiangyuan, do you need me to wait here?"
Liu asked from behind him.
Wu Jiangyuan shook his head. "No, Uncle Liu. You can go back. I'll get home myself."
Liu said, "All right. Take care on your own, then."
After saying goodbye to Liu, Wu Jiangyuan stepped into the company lobby.
The receptionist greeted him with a smile. "Hello. Do you have an appointment?"
Wu Jiangyuan blinked. "Do I need an appointment to come in here?"
The receptionist answered gently, "Yes."
Her gaze swept over Wu Jiangyuan.
Wu Jiangyuan had already changed out of his suit before coming out. His casual, relaxed clothes now looked out of place in this grand, imposing company.
The receptionist studied his sharply defined features for quite a while before looking away from his handsome face.
Then she couldn't resist sneaking a few more glances. Why did this handsome guy look so familiar?
He looked like some male celebrity...
Wu Jiangyuan asked politely, "I don't have an appointment. Could you help me find someone?"
The receptionist snapped back to her senses and gave him an apologetic smile. "Sorry, company policy doesn't allow anyone in without an appointment. Who are you looking for?"
Wu Jiangyuan recalled the name Wu Chengnan had sent him. "Yang Nan."
The receptionist looked a little surprised. "Are you looking for the president's secretary, Sister Ard?"
"The president's secretary?" Wu Jiangyuan tilted his head. "I'm not too sure about that. Could you help me see her?"
The receptionist thought for a moment. "How about this? I'll pass along a message for you."
Wu Jiangyuan gave her a bright smile. "Then thank you so much."
The receptionist picked up the desk phone, then suddenly remembered something and asked, "May I have your name?"
"Wu Jiangyuan."
At those words, surprise crossed the receptionist's face. She asked uncertainly, "Are you the celebrity Wu Jiangyuan?"
Wu Jiangyuan leaned against the reception desk, unafraid of revealing his identity, and teased lightly, "Yes. Do I look that different from how I look online? You know my name, but you don't recognize me."
"No, no." The receptionist blushed. "I thought you looked like him, but I wasn't sure."
"I'll call Sister Ard for you right away."
Wu Jiangyuan said, "Thank you very much."
The receptionist briefly explained things to the person on the other end, but judging by the response, she didn't intend to meet him.
The receptionist hurriedly added, "This gentleman says his name is Wu Jiangyuan. He came specifically to see you."
After that, the other end of the line fell briefly silent.
About a minute later, the receptionist hung up and smiled brightly.
"Sister Ard asked me to take you upstairs."
