Dai Lan cracked open his azure eyes and recognized the person before him. "Ah... Jiangtang'er, you're back."
With that, he groggily rolled over and went back to sleep.
Veins bulged on Wu Jiangyuan's forehead. He raised his fist and punched him hard.
Five minutes later-
Dai Lan knelt obediently on the floor, his upper body bare and a blanket wrapped around his lower half.
His handsome face, with its mixed Chinese and Western features, now sported a black ring around his right eye.
He spoke aggrievedly. "Jiangtang'er, you got back so late. I only slept for a tiny bit."
Wu Jiangyuan sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, flexed his wrist, and smiled faintly.
"Looks like you still haven't realized what you did wrong."
"..." Dai Lan laughed. "I have. I really have."
As he spoke, he pointed at the bag in the corner of the sofa. "It's right there. The stuff I brought you."
At that, Wu Jiangyuan's dark expression eased considerably.
He bent down and took the item out of the bag. It was a crystal ceramic vessel as long as a forearm.
When he opened the lid, a fruity alcoholic aroma wafted toward him, lingering in the air.
A single sniff was enough to tell it was an exceptionally fine liquor.
"Mm." Wu Jiangyuan said with satisfaction, "That's the smell."
Dai Lan looked at him resentfully. "That's from my daddy's private collection. I begged him for ages before he gave it to me. I couldn't even bear to drink it myself, and brought it for you."
"And you..." Growing more aggrieved as he spoke, Dai Lan pointed at his right eye. "What have you done to this handsome face of mine!"
"That's what you get for running wild in my house." Wu Jiangyuan glanced at him. "Didn't I warn you on the phone not to mess up my place, or I'd beat you to death?"
Dai Lan looked around at the mess and had nothing to say.
He gave an awkward little cough. "You know I get like this when I drink too much."
"Go on, tell me." Wu Jiangyuan cradled the ceramic liquor bottle in his arms and raised his eyebrows. "Someone actually managed to make our playboy drown his sorrows over them."
Moisture glimmered in Dai Lan's azure eyes as he said, heartbroken, "I met an Omega and pursued him for ages. In the end, he told me he didn't like Alphas."
Wu Jiangyuan sighed. "That still doesn't warrant getting drunk and running wild in my house, does it?"
"I put so much effort into pursuing him. He neither rejected me nor agreed to be with me."
"He strung me along for so long, then brushed me off with a single line about not liking Alphas."
Dai Lan got up from the floor, grabbed the bottle on the table, and tipped his head back to swig from it.
"I'm telling you, in all my years, no one's ever dared play me like this."
"I looked into it privately, and the person this Omega likes is actually a Beta!"
"A Beta! Wu Jiangyuan, f***, I'm an Alpha, and he finds me less attractive than a Beta!"
The more Dai Lan spoke, the redder his eyes grew. In the end, he sat on the sofa and hugged Wu Jiangyuan, sobbing aggrievedly.
"Just what part of me isn't as good as that Beta?!"
"I'm so handsome, and rich. Most importantly, I'm so handsome-"
"Boohoo, Jiangtang'er, I feel awful."
"..." Expressionless, Wu Jiangyuan pushed the head off his shoulder. "You don't actually like that Omega. Why pretend you're so devoted?"
Dai Lan's sobbing voice faltered. "I just can't accept it. What does that Beta even have going for him?"
He absolutely refused to admit that he could be less attractive than a Beta.
Wu Jiangyuan said, "How pointless."
"I think you've just got too much time on your hands. Go find a factory job."
By now, Dai Lan was completely immersed in his own thoughts. "You think I should go see just who this Beta is too?"
Wu Jiangyuan rolled his eyes, pushed him away, and got up, carrying the ceramic liquor bottle to the liquor cabinet.
Liquor was a little hidden hobby of his. He didn't usually drink much; he just liked collecting it.
Having a glass when he was in a bad mood was bliss.
After putting away the ceramic liquor bottle, he headed toward his room and spoke to Dai Lan, who was still muttering on the sofa.
"I'm going to shower. Clean this place up while I'm in there, or I'll throw you out."
Dai Lan didn't answer, and Wu Jiangyuan couldn't be bothered with him. He would follow through on his words anyway.
As it turned out, Dai Lan had listened after all.
When Wu Jiangyuan came out, the living room looked completely refreshed, and Dai Lan was on the phone by the floor-to-ceiling windows.
It sounded as though he was asking someone to investigate something.
Wu Jiangyuan headed toward his room. Dai Lan put away his phone and followed.
Wu Jiangyuan stopped him outside the door. "What are you doing?"
Dai Lan said, "Going to sleep. You're not going to make me sleep on the floor, are you?"
"You." Wu Jiangyuan's brows gradually knitted. "Stink. Sleep on the sofa."
Dai Lan blinked aggrievedly. "The sofa's uncomfortable."
"Weren't you sleeping pretty soundly before I came back?"
With that, Wu Jiangyuan shut the door without mercy. Letting this guy stay over was already doing him quite a favor.
Dai Lan scratched the back of his head. Having grown up abroad, he was highly tolerant of other Alphas' pheromones and didn't think there was anything wrong with two Alphas sleeping together.
Wu Jiangyuan, however, seemed very averse to it. Feeling dejected, he obediently went to lie down on the sofa and sleep.
Inside the room.
Wu Jiangyuan looked at the schedule Aji had sent him.
Since signing the collaboration with Tangsheng, his schedule had visibly grown busier. There were several Tassilo commercial shoots alone.
And Tassilo had already issued an official announcement that it had signed a brand ambassador.
The luxury brand had never invited a brand ambassador in Asia before. Now that it had suddenly announced an artist, not only were fans curious and looking forward to it, but many celebrities were curious too.
Tassilo's fashion resources were notoriously difficult to secure in the industry. Countless artists' agencies had racked their brains trying to pitch themselves, all to no avail.
As for exactly who this ambassador was, Tassilo was in no hurry to reveal it, drawing considerable attention.
Wu Jiangyuan turned off the lights and lay down in bed.
Yet when he closed his eyes, he didn't feel sleepy at all.
He opened his eyes and looked at the sheer curtains billowing in the night breeze, remembering what Pei Jinghe had said that evening.
[If you insist on an answer, then it's as your husband.]
Those words lingered in Wu Jiangyuan's mind, impossible to forget.
It was clearly a perfectly normal sentence, yet it sounded so strange coming from Pei Jinghe.
And why had he said Wu Jiangyuan had gone back on his word?
Unable to work it out, Wu Jiangyuan rolled over and buried himself under the covers.
All sorts of thoughts jumbled in his head, and he didn't know how long it took before he drifted off.
In his haze, he dreamed again.
This dream was very peaceful. Everything before him was dark, and a hand was gently stroking his cheek.
An indistinct question reached his ear, the voice impossible to identify as male or female.
-"You'll be mine, won't you?"
