Ch. 421The Fuse Is Lit

Redd disarmed the Black-Robed Leader with King Ghidorah’s precise dragonfire, ordered him captured and interrogated about the Citadel, and declared that the Seven Kingdoms needed a new master. As Redd flew toward the harbor to search for another dragon, the palace floor cracked and the ground exploded beneath it.

  • King Ghidorah melted the Black-Robed Leader’s bullet without harming Redd, and the Black-Robed Leader lost hope of killing him.
  • Redd ordered Douglas to capture the Black-Robed Leader alive and learn everything he knew about the Citadel, hand cannons, cannons, and the Black-Robed Men.
  • Redd told the Black-Robed Leader that the Seven Kingdoms needed a new master, then rode King Ghidorah toward the harbor to find another dragon.
  • Douglas ordered the soldiers to take the Black-Robed Leader away for questioning as the palace floor began to bulge and crack.
  • Hot air and a strange chemical smell rose through the cracks, and the ground exploded beneath the palace.

Ch. 422Heatwave

Thousands of Wildfire jars buried beneath Lys City’s palace detonated in a chain, destroying the building and trapping everyone inside. Douglas ran toward Redd beneath King Ghidorah’s shielding wing as the heatwave swept through the palace.

  • Wildfire explosions erupted beneath the palace, setting its furnishings ablaze and collapsing its floors, walls, and columns.
  • Douglas saw soldiers rush toward the entrance, where flames engulfed one of them, and realized that fleeing outside meant death.
  • Douglas ran deeper into the palace toward Redd, who remained calm on the stairs as the explosions continued.
  • King Ghidorah thrust its enormous wing through the entrance to shield Redd from the blast.
  • Douglas discarded his sword and rushed beneath King Ghidorah’s wing.

Ch. 423Charred

Douglas survived the palace’s chain of explosions by reaching the shelter beneath Redd’s dragon wing, though he suffered severe burns. He realized that everyone outside the shelter had vanished and feared that the soldiers he had brought might be among the dead.

  • Douglas ran through the burning palace toward the only place the flames parted: beneath Redd’s golden dragon wing.
  • Douglas collapsed in the relative safety of the wing’s shadow, badly burned but alive.
  • Douglas saw that the palace had collapsed and that nearly everyone who had not reached Redd’s shelter had been incinerated.
  • Redd asked Douglas if they were the only two left, and Douglas answered with a nod because his throat could not produce words.
  • Douglas looked toward the blocked palace gates and worried about the soldiers he had brought, realizing he had survived while others had chosen a different route.

Ch. 424Ashes

After the destruction in Lys, Redd rode King Ghidorah toward the harbor to face Daemon and Bloodworm. Tormund's fleet arrived from the north and attacked Redd's exposed ships as Daemon began his assault from the sky.

  • Redd saw smoke and Daemon's dragon near the harbor, then mounted King Ghidorah and flew toward them.
  • Douglas struggled to his feet amid the ruins and prayed that Redd would return alive.
  • Daemon rode Bloodworm toward Redd while Tormund's fifteen warships rounded the headland and launched catapult attacks on Redd's fleet.
  • Tormund stood at the flagship's bow with a Fishman bone blade and declared that either Redd or he would die.
  • Daemon and Bloodworm poured dragonfire over the ships, setting sails and masts ablaze and filling the harbor with burning wreckage.

Ch. 425Cruelty

Daemon and the wounded Bloodworm attacked Redd’s fleet while Tormund’s forces and the defenders of Lys trapped it in the harbor. Redd’s outnumbered sailors fought on as ships burned and men died across the decks.

  • Redd’s warships fired Dragon-shooting Crossbows at Bloodworm, but their first volley missed and Bloodworm set two ships ablaze with dragonfire.
  • A Scorpion bolt wounded Bloodworm’s hind leg, slowing him and making him wary of the fleet’s weapons.
  • Tormund arrived with fifteen warships and destroyed Redd’s last fully capable ship with catapult stones before boarding the remaining vessels.
  • The defenders of Lys fired arrows from the walls as Tormund’s veterans fought Redd’s sailors on deck, with Bloodworm circling overhead despite his wound.
  • Redd’s roughly three hundred remaining men faced overwhelming odds, and sailors including Wang and the ballista operator called Kid were killed.

Ch. 426Dissipation

Daemon and Tormund wiped out Redd’s elite forces and destroyed his fleet in Lys’s harbor. Redd returned from the palace on King Ghidorah to find his ships and soldiers lost, with Douglas the only survivor.

  • Tormund’s men slaughtered Redd’s remaining soldiers as Daemon watched from Bloodworm.
  • Daemon ordered Bloodworm to burn Redd’s flagship, and the last of the fleet sank beneath the waves.
  • Daemon pulled a crossbow bolt from Bloodworm’s hind leg, then confirmed with Tormund that Redd’s men at sea were dead.
  • Redd’s landing troops continued fighting Lys’s defenders in the streets, unaware that their fleet had been destroyed.
  • Redd arrived on King Ghidorah, saw the wreckage of his fleet, and learned that Douglas was the only one alive.

Ch. 427The killing field

Douglas realized he was the sole survivor of the fleet as King Ghidorah arrived over the harbor. A prepared ambush unleashed bolts and barrels of oil and wildfire, setting the district ablaze and splashing wildfire into Ghidorah’s central head’s open mouth.

  • Douglas struggled to stand among the palace ruins and realized that he alone had survived the fleet’s destruction.
  • King Ghidorah approached the harbor as Daemon and Tormund’s carefully prepared ambush began.
  • Hidden ballistae fired volleys of enormous bolts, which Ghidorah intercepted with his Gravity Beams.
  • Catapults launched barrels of crude oil, fire oil, and wildfire, igniting the harbor district and coating Ghidorah in flames.
  • As Ghidorah prepared to destroy the attackers, a barrel struck his central head’s mouth and spilled wildfire inside.

Ch. 428Instability

Redd was struck by incendiary oil and thrown into a burning house when a wildfire explosion destabilized King Ghidorah. The flames destroyed his clothes and hair but left him unharmed, and he stood up amid the burning ruins as the house threatened to collapse.

  • Wildfire burned inside King Ghidorah's mouth, interrupting its Gravity Beams and making its flight unstable.
  • A barrel of incendiary oil struck Redd and set his clothes and body ablaze.
  • A wildfire barrel exploded near King Ghidorah, sending it plunging and flinging Redd toward the harbor's burning residential area.
  • Redd crashed through a house and into its stone floor, but the fire and impact left his body unharmed.
  • Redd sat up and stood barefoot in the burning house as flames consumed it and the structure began to collapse.

Ch. 429The Ambush

Redd survived the wildfire blast and emerged from the burning city unharmed, while King Ghidorah fought free of the siege and flew toward him. Daemon launched Bloodworm at Redd before he could remount, as King Ghidorah prepared to strike back.

  • Daemon, Tormund, Mynander, and the Black-Robed Men’s coordinated ambush left King Ghidorah pinned beneath a relentless barrage while Daemon waited for Redd to appear.
  • Redd walked out of the flames unharmed, and nearby Tormund soldiers recognized him as the Dragon King.
  • Redd whistled to King Ghidorah, who spotted him, roared, and flew toward him after tearing up nearby ballista emplacements.
  • Daemon saw that Redd had survived and ordered Bloodworm to dive at him before he could mount King Ghidorah.
  • King Ghidorah steadied himself, spread his wings, and prepared to fight back.

Ch. 430The call

King Ghidorah answered Redd’s call by unleashing its golden energy attacks on Lys’s defenses and Tormund’s fleet. It erased a long stretch of the harbor wall and swept its attack across the warships at sea.

  • King Ghidorah sensed Redd’s call and focused its anger into a precise, lethal response.
  • King Ghidorah gathered golden energy in all three heads as Lys’s soldiers watched in terror.
  • King Ghidorah’s central head fired a lightning-shaped energy column that erased the harbor wall and everyone along several hundred meters of it.
  • King Ghidorah’s left head attacked Tormund’s fifteen warships, sweeping a golden column across the fleet and vaporizing a furrow through the sea.

Ch. 431The last chance

King Ghidorah annihilated Tormund's fleet and stopped Daemon's attempt to kill Redd before he could reunite with King Ghidorah. Daemon and Bloodworm crashed onto a dock, leaving Redd unharmed and the ambush defeated.

  • King Ghidorah's left head swept a golden beam across Tormund's warships, annihilating the fleet as Tormund escaped into the sea.
  • Daemon rode Bloodworm in a dive toward Redd, aiming to kill him before he could mount King Ghidorah again.
  • King Ghidorah's right head fired a beam that created an energy barrier across Bloodworm's flight path, tearing its left wing when it touched the barrier.
  • Bloodworm veered past Redd and crashed onto an eastern harbor dock, where Daemon jumped off and broke his dragonglass spear.
  • Daemon saw Redd standing unharmed beneath King Ghidorah and realized the ambush was over.

Ch. 432The deathly silent ruins

King Ghidorah destroyed Lys’s harbor defenses, fleet, and Bloodworm, leaving Redd unharmed and Daemon defeated. Redd approached Daemon, then called to the badly burned Douglas as he arrived with reinforcements.

  • King Ghidorah’s golden lightning erased Lys’s walls and fleet, shot down Bloodworm, and left the harbor in ruins.
  • Redd praised King Ghidorah and rode it to the eastern docks to confront Daemon.
  • Daemon remained beside the wounded Bloodworm and traded a brief, strained joke with Redd, but said nothing more.
  • Redd surveyed the destruction and called for Douglas, who limped toward the harbor with help from reinforcement soldiers.

Ch. 433A chill

Redd survived the wildfire and harbor ambush, then confronted Daemon and declared that he would make him repay the lives and fleet he had lost. Redd flew off on King Ghidorah to pursue Tormund, who waited in the shallows with a Fishmen bone blade as his fleet and plans lay in ruins.

  • Redd waved to his surviving man, then told Daemon that he would kill him later and make him repay the fleet and lives lost.
  • Redd mounted King Ghidorah and set off to catch someone still at large.
  • Tormund surfaced near the harbor with his Fishmen bone blade as he watched Redd approaching through the sky.
  • Tormund recalled how his wildfire plot and harbor ambush had failed, and how King Ghidorah's golden lightning had annihilated his fleet.

Ch. 434Unwilling to Accept Defeat

Tormund saw Redd retreating unarmed and considered attacking him while King Ghidorah was occupied. Before he could act, Tormund’s Dragon, Raging Tide, burst from the harbor and launched an attack on King Ghidorah.

  • Tormund gripped the Fishmen priestess’s bone blade and considered killing the naked, retreating Redd.
  • King Ghidorah searched the harbor waters for threats as he reached the sea.
  • Raging Tide erupted from underwater, having waited for a chance to protect Tormund.
  • Raging Tide fired a high-pressure stream of water at King Ghidorah’s right wing, but his scales were unharmed.
  • Raging Tide lunged at King Ghidorah, slashing toward his belly and biting at his right neck.

Ch. 435Quite loyal

Raging Tide ambushed King Ghidorah and clamped onto its wing, but King Ghidorah overpowered it and pinned it in a beach crater. As King Ghidorah moved to kill Raging Tide, Bloodworm charged out of the ruins and targeted its tail.

  • Raging Tide bit down on the tip of King Ghidorah's right wing, but King Ghidorah seized Raging Tide by the back, neck, and belly.
  • King Ghidorah carried Raging Tide into a dive and slammed it into the beach east of the harbor, pinning it in a crater.
  • Redd escaped the impact, landed on the beach, and ordered King Ghidorah to kill Raging Tide.
  • King Ghidorah bit into the side of Raging Tide's neck as Raging Tide struggled beneath it.
  • Bloodworm charged from the harbor ruins and crashed into the crater, aiming for King Ghidorah's tail.

Ch. 436Thoroughly Enraged

King Ghidorah fought off Raging Tide and Bloodworm in the sand pit while Redd jumped from its back so it could attack without worrying about protecting him. The two injured Dragons closed in again, and King Ghidorah prepared to face them as the middle head watched for another threat.

  • Bloodworm dragged King Ghidorah's tail back just enough to interrupt its killing bite on Raging Tide, allowing Raging Tide to escape.
  • King Ghidorah threw Bloodworm across the beach and struck Raging Tide with its spiked tail, wounding both Dragons.
  • Redd jumped from King Ghidorah's back so it could fight without having to protect him.
  • Despite their injuries, Raging Tide and Bloodworm moved in on King Ghidorah again.
  • King Ghidorah spread its wings and readied itself to face both Dragons while its middle head watched for another enemy.

Ch. 437No suspense

Redd watched King Ghidorah battle Raging Tide and Bloodworm, then scavenged clothing from a dead soldier after the wildfire blast left him exposed and unarmed. As a cautious hunter approached through the ruins, Redd moved toward a discarded longsword.

  • Redd kept out of the dragons’ reach and watched King Ghidorah fight Raging Tide and Bloodworm on the beach.
  • Redd stripped leather armor, trousers, and boots from a dead Lys garrison soldier and put them on.
  • Redd regretted losing Dark Sister and his other belongings in the wildfire explosion, and resolved to get fireproof clothes made from King Ghidorah’s shed scales.
  • Redd heard the rapid heartbeat of a nervous hunter approaching through the ruins and searched the scattered weapons for a sword.
  • Redd walked toward a bloodied longsword half buried in the sand.

Ch. 438Still alive

Redd confronted Tormund on the beach, where Tormund’s strange bone blade broke the iron sword Redd had picked up. With King Ghidorah overpowering Bloodworm and Raging Tide nearby, Tormund decided to attack Redd before the dragons could finish their fight.

  • Redd struck at Tormund with a rusted longsword, but Tormund’s bone blade snapped it in two.
  • Redd asked whether the aqua-blue bone blade could cut Valyrian steel, and Tormund admitted he had never tested it.
  • King Ghidorah battered Bloodworm and resisted Raging Tide’s bite as golden light began to flare in his throats.
  • Seeing that his dragon could not hold out much longer, Tormund lunged at Redd with his bone blade.

Ch. 439Amused

Redd effortlessly defeated Tormund and took possession of his strange, aqua-blue glowing bone blade. He examined the weapon, sensing something alive or dormant within it.

  • Redd dodged Tormund’s first strike and blocked his second with a shield, which the bone blade sliced in half.
  • Redd caught Tormund’s wrist during a thrust and crushed the bones, making him drop the blade.
  • Redd crushed four fingers on Tormund’s left hand as they both grabbed for the weapon.
  • Redd kicked Tormund across the beach and left him battered in the tidal flats.
  • Redd inspected the bone blade and felt a strange frequency within its aqua-blue glow.

Ch. 440A Whistle Through the Air

Redd survived Daemon’s surprise attack with an Ice Spear and discovered that Daemon could wield the White Walker weapon without being harmed by it. Daemon remained silent about where he had obtained the spears as the battle between the Dragons continued nearby.

  • As Redd approached the wounded Tormund, an Ice Spear flew past and grazed the area behind his right ear.
  • Redd turned and saw Daemon holding another Ice Spear among the ruins, and realized he had escaped his guards to launch the attack.
  • Redd recognized the weapon as a White Walker Ice Spear and questioned how Daemon had acquired it.
  • Redd spotted four more Ice Spears in a burned crate and pressed Daemon about their source, but Daemon did not answer.
  • Nearby, King Ghidorah struck Bloodworm with its tail, sending the Dragon through an abandoned lighthouse.
