| First Appearance | Chapter 13 13 |
Background / History
Yue Feng grew up next door to He Qinghuan and became one of his closest childhood friends. Unlike several members of their wealthy social circle, he came from a harmonious household: his parents remained affectionate, his siblings got along, and he was spoiled as the youngest child. He and He Qinghuan began school late after spending a year studying at home with teachers, making them slightly older than Gu Wang 13 21 83 93.
Initially introduced as attending high school in the capital, Yue Feng later returns to take the college entrance examination and apply to a music school. He asks to join He Qinghuan’s class, but He Qinghuan redirects his attention to Shen Zhao’s class next door. By the flag-raising ceremony, he is identified as the neighboring class’s new transfer student 13 20 32.
Yue Feng had earned an overseas study placement through his own efforts, but his academic performance subsequently declined. Without He Qinghuan supervising him, he forgot much of what he had learned. His family regularly compares him unfavorably with his next-door neighbor 83.
Portrayal in the Original Novel
Gu Wang remembers Yue Feng as an infrequent but ruthless presence in the original novel. His loyalty is characterized through an executioner metaphor: if He Qinghuan ordered someone’s death, Yue Feng would hand him the knife. An original-novel recollection also shows fifteen-year-old Yue Feng casually suggesting that He Qinghuan kill someone he is holding underwater 18 35.
The current narrative complicates that portrayal. He Qinghuan considers Yue Feng the gentlest and warmest of his friends, believing that—even when Yue Feng jokes about killing someone—he would probably be the first to intervene if the threat became real 93.
Appearance
- Carefree, unruly presentation: He is described as an outwardly carefree rich boy; at a later school gathering, he wears his uniform loose and open with a black headband 106.
- Height: He is considerably taller than Shen Zhao 106.
- Distinctive leg hair: He inherits thick leg hair from his mother, prompting Shen Zhao’s nickname “Furry Pants Yue” 106.
- Casual clothing: Beneath his uniform jacket, he wears a white T-shirt decorated with blood-red claw marks 32 33.
Personality
Yue Feng is outspoken, teasing, and socially resourceful. He needles his childhood friends, argues rapidly enough to leave Du Zhou struggling to respond, and finds indirect ways to approach Shen Zhao when a straightforward request fails. His schemes can also be immature: he invents a medical scare to test Gu Wang’s feelings, then apologizes after the joke causes genuine distress 21 25 38 74 75.
His loyalty to He Qinghuan does not prevent him from challenging him. He repeatedly warns that Gu Wang is not his possession and urges him to pursue a relationship without coercion. Yue Feng values the goodwill and youthful spirit he sees in Gu Wang, recognizing qualities missing from much of their own circle 24 29 31.
With Shen Zhao, Yue Feng is patient, generous, and protective, but also jealous. He supplies gifts, pays for meals, carries Shen Zhao’s schoolbag, and shields him from roughhousing students. His frustration often remains unspoken, leaving the romantically oblivious Shen Zhao unaware of why he is upset 38 93 95 102 108.
Abilities & Skills
Social Persuasion
Yue Feng is adept at using conversation and pretexts to influence people 26 34 38.
- Persuades Shen Zhao and Song Zhiyan to use another billiards table, leaving Gu Wang and He Qinghuan alone 26.
- Builds rapport with Shen Zhao by praising Gu Wang 34.
- Presents Shen Zhao’s birthday cake as thanks for a badminton lesson, anticipating that an explicitly romantic gift would be rejected 38.
- Uses his knowledge of He Qinghuan’s childhood to appeal to Gu Wang for sympathy 35.
Fighting
Yue Feng is ruthless when cornered but lacks the formal fighting ability of He Qinghuan and Du Zhou 39.
- While his friends trained in Sanda, he generally watched, ate, and drank rather than participating 39.
- Usually relies on others to fight; his own attacks favor brute force, including grabbing an opponent’s throat 39.
- Cannot handle Du Zhou’s seven or eight companions alone and suffers a bloody nose after being struck in the face with a club 39.
- Physically restrains He Qinghuan after the latter impales Du Zhou’s shoulder with rebar 39.
Relationships
- He Qinghuan — Childhood friend, next-door neighbor, and confidant. Their long familiarity lets Yue Feng criticize him more forcefully than their other friends dare, particularly over his treatment of Gu Wang 13 24 31 83.
- Shen Zhao — Romantic interest. Yue Feng pursues him through gifts, attention, and practical care, while Shen Zhao is slow to recognize the difference between friendship and romantic devotion. They are described as close to getting together, rather than an established couple, in the latest supplied chapter 20 38 95 108 110.
- Gu Wang — Initially finds him attractive and requests his WeChat contact after watching his dance video. He subsequently becomes an intermediary between Gu Wang and He Qinghuan, though he and Gu Wang are not especially close independently of their respective friends 13 22 35 95.
- Du Zhou — Former childhood companion and recurring antagonist. Their longstanding verbal sparring becomes open hostility after Du Zhou’s break with He Qinghuan 20 21 39.
- Old Ma and Dada — Members of his childhood circle. They exchange insults and jokes, vacation together, and share concerns about He Qinghuan’s increasingly controlling behavior 24 25 28.
- Lin Yuzhi — A source of jealousy because of his closeness with Shen Zhao. Yue Feng fights him and later becomes upset when Shen Zhao shares food and a drink with him 93 102.
