In this peaceful Mining Town, everything seemed so leisurely.
Perhaps because the sun was too fierce, the town's residents had all hidden indoors. The wind, already beginning to carry a scorching heat, stirred the fallen leaves, making them rustle along the road where no cars passed.
The shadows of the trees swayed gently with the wind, blocking the direct sunlight and preserving the last trace of coolness amid the afternoon heat.
The little shops along the street stood with their doors open. The owners either lay sleeping behind their counters or had vanished entirely, leaving behind empty stores without caring whether anyone might steal a thing or two.
Lu Youqi and Martin walked along the roadside and barely saw anyone. Only the occasional passerby appeared, avoiding the sun as they hurried into the shade. They would stare at Martin's head for a few seconds before looking away.
Yet for the two of them, such a peaceful and harmonious place was full of torment.
