"Human" could not remember how long ago it had been...
When he first became conscious, he was already inside a Culture Dish.
He grew and matured within it, gradually taking on a complete form.
"Hello."
The first time he heard "hello" was also inside the Culture Dish.
Through the thick glass, he saw a little girl standing outside. With innocent eyes, she waved her chubby little hand and greeted him. Looking at her, he felt as though his heart were melting.
He moved closer and pressed his face against the glass. The little girl was not afraid and continued waving her little hand.
"Hello."
"Hello," he replied awkwardly.
"Why are you staying in there?" the little girl asked.
"Because this is my home."
He did not know how to answer. After thinking for a moment, that was all he could say.
"Your home is so small." The little girl looked at the Culture Dish and spoke seriously.
It really was small. He had never cared before, but hearing someone point it out so earnestly still made him feel a little upset.
Just as he was about to explain to the little girl, a large hand grabbed her.
"What are you doing here?! This is a laboratory. Get out!"
An adult had discovered the little girl and carried her away. Silence returned beside the Culture Dish.
Even after the sounds of scolding and crying had faded into the distance, he could not shake that soft, sweet "hello." It was the first time he had felt human kindness, and the first time his heart had trembled.
Later, the little girl sneaked in a few more times.
Each time, she would come up to the Culture Dish and say hello to him.
