Chapter Summaries

After Dawn won her fourth Ribbon, Xiaoyun and Dawn stayed in Celestic Town and attended the Lustrous Orb exhibition, where they met Professor Carolina and Cyrus. Cyrus secretly launched Team Galactic’s attack on the town, forcing Cynthia to leave the museum while Xiaoyun stayed behind to guard it.

• Dawn won her fourth Ribbon, and she and Xiaoyun ordered custom outfits from Lila while spending a few relaxing days in Celestic Town.
• At the Lustrous Orb exhibition, Cynthia introduced Xiaoyun and Dawn to her grandmother, Professor Carolina, and to Cyrus, whom Xiaoyun recognized as Team Galactic’s leader.
• After Dawn mentioned seeing Palkia in Alamos Town, Cyrus sent a message ordering Team Galactic to begin its operation, and Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars led the attack on Celestic Town.
• A police officer reported that Team Galactic was attacking several locations, and Cynthia suspended the exhibition, organized the response, and left on Garchomp to help defend the town.

Cynthia Mega Evolved Garchomp to fight Team Galactic’s Commanders while Hunter J attacked Celestic Museum to steal the Lustrous Orb. Xiaoyun stopped Cyrus from taking the orb, and Cyrus ended the chapter by offering him a place as Team Galactic’s fourth Commander.

• Cynthia arrived to confront Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars, then Mega Evolved Garchomp and charged into battle.
• Hunter J arrived at Celestic Museum after Team Galactic had lured Cynthia away and attacked the defenders to seize the Lustrous Orb.
• Xiaoyun and Dawn fought back, and Xiaoyun sent Ursaring, Aerodactyl, and Sceptile against Hunter J’s Tyranitar, Aggron, and Salamence.
• Cyrus sent Houndoom after the Lustrous Orb, but Xiaoyun anticipated the move and Suicune knocked Houndoom back.

After helping Cynthia thwart Cyrus’s attempt to steal the Lustrous Orb, Xiaoyun and Dawn traveled toward Canalave City and met Aaron, Sinnoh’s Bug-type Elite Four member. Aaron invited Xiaoyun to a three-on-three battle, which Dawn agreed to referee.

• Xiaoyun refused Cyrus’s offer to join Team Galactic, and Cynthia arrived with Garchomp to drive Cyrus and Hunter J into retreat.
• Cynthia thanked Xiaoyun and Dawn for protecting the Lustrous Orb, while Cyrus learned that the Red Chain experiment had succeeded and ordered Pluto to prepare for another attempt to seize the orb.
• Xiaoyun and Dawn reached a town where Aaron was holding public training sessions, then watched him train before he approached Xiaoyun.

• Aaron sent out Drapion, whose strength and speed surprised Xiaoyun as it fought Sceptile.
• Xiaoyun deduced that Drapion used Acupressure, and Aaron explained how he developed Acupressure Hand with help from Agatha and Professor Oak.
• Xiaoyun Mega Evolved Sceptile, and the two Pokémon traded attacks without gaining a clear advantage.
• Xiaoyun trapped Drapion in Forest of Thorns, but Aaron ordered it to break free with Toxic Trio.

The group decided to put their journey on hold and take Shaymin to the Gracidea Flower Field, while Giratina searched the Distortion World for a way to reach Shaymin.

• Dialga drank by a lake after fighting Palkia, but Giratina dragged it into the Distortion World and attacked it.
• Xiaoyun and Dawn encountered Ash, Brock, and Zoey when Magnemite captured Shaymin, and they helped defeat the Magnemite swarm.

Shaymin transformed into Sky Forme after touching a Gracidea Flower, but Zero attacked the train with a Magnemite swarm to capture it. After Xiaoyun and the others fought back, Zero revealed his plan to open the Distortion World and activated the battleship’s laser cannon system, leaving everyone facing a greater threat.

• A flower seller told Xiaoyun and the others how to reach the Gracidea Flower Field and explained that Gracidea Flowers symbolized gratitude.
• Shaymin touched a Gracidea Flower and transformed into Sky Forme, then flew around the train and boasted to Xiaoyun.
• Zero sent Magnemite and Magneton to attack the train, and Xiaoyun, Ash, Dawn, and Zoey fought back with their Pokémon.
• Sky Shaymin protected Xiaoyun from a Magnezone, but Zero arrived with more Pokémon and demanded that the group hand Shaymin over.
• After Pikachu and Mismagius drove back most of Zero’s forces, Zero ordered the battleship’s laser cannon readied, and the ship transformed its wings into a powerful weapon.

Shaymin’s Seed Flare opened a rift into the Distortion World, drawing Xiaoyun, Dawn, Ash, Zoey, Brock, Darkrai, and Shaymin inside. There, Giratina confronted them over Shaymin, and Xiaoyun began communicating with it to clear up a misunderstanding.

• Zero fired the warship’s laser, and Darkrai struggled to contain it with Dark Void until Shaymin absorbed the energy and unleashed Seed Flare, opening a rift.
• Shaymin and Darkrai were pulled into the rift, followed by Xiaoyun, Dawn, Ash, Zoey, and Brock; Zero and his battleship entered after them.
• Xiaoyun explained the Distortion World’s connection to the real world and its reversed gravity while everyone explored the strange surroundings.
• Giratina appeared and demanded Shaymin, but Shaymin feared it would be eaten and attacked; Giratina retaliated with Dragon Pulse.

• Xiaoyun persuaded Shaymin to help Giratina leave the Distortion World in exchange for taking the group to the Gracidea Flower Field, and they brought Professor Mugen along.
• Shaymin used Seed Flare to open a rift, and Giratina, Xiaoyun, and the others emerged into the real world.
• Zero arrived in his battleship, trapped Giratina in a laser cage, and began draining its power despite Professor Mugen’s warnings.

Xiaoyun and his allies freed Giratina from Zero’s cage, but Zero escaped into the Distortion World and began destroying its ice pillars to force the worlds to merge. Xiaoyun and Giratina wrecked Zero’s battleship, though Zero claimed the damage to the real world had already begun.

• Zero increased the battleship’s power to absorb Giratina’s energy, while Xiaoyun and Darkrai coordinated an attack with Giratina from inside and outside the cage.
• The combined attacks destroyed the cage, and Shaymin healed the exhausted Giratina with Aromatherapy.
• Zero transformed the damaged battleship, entered the Distortion World, and began smashing ice pillars as the surrounding world started to fracture.
• Regigigas awakened in an ancient palace, while Xiaoyun rode Giratina into the Distortion World to confront Zero.
• Zero fired the battleship’s weapons at Xiaoyun, but Giratina used Shadow Force and Draco Meteor to disable and destroy the vessel.
• A wounded Zero emerged from the wreckage and told Xiaoyun that the broken ice pillar would still cause severe repercussions in the real world.

Xiaoyun and his companions survived the glacier crisis with Regigigas's help, captured Zero, and returned Giratina's energy crystal. After Shaymin reunited with its companions and transformed into Sky Forme, it returned to Xiaoyun and continued traveling with the group toward their next Gym.

• Regigigas stopped the glacier from crushing the real world, and Xiaoyun handed Zero over to Professor Mugen for the Pokémon League.
• Professor Mugen returned Giratina's energy crystal, and Giratina shared part of its power with Darkrai before departing.

They traveled to Newmoon Island with Officer Jenny, where Team Rocket discovered their nightmare machine was unplugged and encountered a real Darkrai, while Xiaoyun’s group finally came face-to-face with the Pokémon.

• Xiaoyun and Dawn reached Canalave City, where Nurse Joy explained that a Darkrai’s nightmares had kept residents from sleeping and Cresselia had not appeared to help.
• Xiaoyun’s Darkrai sensed another Darkrai nearby and said it had felt a strange presence since entering the city.

• Officer Jenny tried to ward off Darkrai with a Lunar Wing, but Xiaoyun discovered that it was a fake.
• Xiaoyun’s Darkrai appeared and fought the other Darkrai after refusing to stop following its Trainer’s orders.
• The Darkrai battled across Newmoon Island, and Xiaoyun’s Darkrai landed Night Shade and Ice Beam before the rival Darkrai shattered the ice and drew on natural energy.
• Xiaoyun activated Shadow Mode, transforming his Darkrai with power derived from Giratina’s origin.
• Shadow Darkrai struck the rival with Shadow Force and Shadow Ball, but the rival summoned a giant shadow to attack back.
• Xiaoyun told Darkrai to use another move as the giant shadow lunged toward it.

Xiaoyun and Darkrai ended Canalave City's nightmares, then defeated Cresselia after she mistook Xiaoyun's Darkrai for the culprit. The next day, Xiaoyun arrived at Canalave Gym and found Byron battling his son Roark before arranging his own Gym challenge.

• Xiaoyun and Darkrai defeated the shadow Darkrai, and the defeated Pokémon lifted Canalave City's nightmares before leaving.
• Cresselia arrived and attacked Xiaoyun's Darkrai, which won; she apologized and gave Xiaoyun a Lunar Wing.
• Officer Jenny caught Byron sneaking back from Iron Island, scolded him for neglecting Canalave City, and heard his apology.

Xiaoyun battled Byron in a three-on-three Canalave Gym Challenge, defeating Steelix with Riolu before Probopass defeated Riolu and faced Monferno. Monferno caught Probopass by surprise after its Magnet Rise wore off, leaving their battle unresolved.

• Roark refereed as Byron sent out Steelix and Xiaoyun sent out Riolu to begin the Gym Challenge.
• Riolu used Aura to anticipate Steelix's Dig, then defeated it with Force Palm and consecutive Fire Punches.
• Byron sent out Probopass, which used Gravity and Tri Attack to knock out Riolu.
• Xiaoyun sent out Monferno, which repeatedly attacked Probopass with Flamethrower and Mach Punch while avoiding its moves.
• Monferno hid underground for three minutes, then burst out beneath Probopass as its Magnet Rise faded.

Xiaoyun defeated Byron in the Canalave Gym battle and earned the Mine Badge, with Darkrai overwhelming Byron’s Bastiodon. Byron left in distress after Xiaoyun politely said he had learned a lot from the match.

• Monferno defeated Byron’s Probopass with Fire Blast, but Bastiodon then defeated Monferno with Metal Burst and Flash Cannon.
• Byron asked Xiaoyun to send out the Darkrai he had used during the Darkrai incident, and Xiaoyun agreed.
• Darkrai dodged Bastiodon’s Heavy Slam and overpowered its Flash Cannon with Dark Pulse.
• Darkrai used Dark Void and Dream Eater to defeat Bastiodon, and Roark declared Xiaoyun the winner.
• Byron gave Xiaoyun the Mine Badge, bringing his badge progress to 6/8, then hurried away with his shovel.

Xiaoyun and Dawn tracked the Pokémon that stole their picnic food into Canalave City's sewers, where they found Luxio leading a group of displaced Pokémon and an injured Wailmer. After Shaymin healed Wailmer, Xiaoyun used Mismagius to carry it toward the sea, but Swampert attacked them near the exit.

• Xiaoyun and Dawn discovered that wild Pokémon had stolen their picnic food and followed their tracks into the sewers with Shaymin.
• They found Luxio, Wailmer, and a group of Pokémon living together, and Xiaoyun realized Wailmer was unwell because it was trapped away from the sea.
• Shaymin healed Wailmer, and Xiaoyun used Mismagius's Confusion to lift it through the sewers while Luxio led the way.
• Near the sewer exit, Swampert attacked, and Luxio fought back while Xiaoyun ordered Riolu to use Aura Sphere.

• Riolu, Luxio, Dawn, and Xiaoyun drove off Swampert and helped Wailmer reach the sea, where it evolved into Wailord.
• Xiaoyun caught Luxio, Whismur, and Nidorino after Luxio agreed to travel with him, then handed the remaining Pokémon over to Officer Jenny.

• Dawn and Barry arrived and helped Xiaoyun’s group fight Mars’s Golbat and Purugly.
• Riolu evolved into Lucario during its battle with Purugly and drove it back.
• Lucario’s attack on the radio-wave device triggered its defenses, but the Steel-type Plate’s power transformed into a bone staff that Lucario used to destroy the machine.
• The explosion shattered the Spear Key’s pillar and ended the radio waves affecting Iron Island’s Pokémon.
