Background / History

Former Life and Transmigration

Before transmigrating, Lu Sui was a forest policeman involved in a violent confrontation with a poaching gang. His final memories included gunfire, an explosion, and approaching police sirens. He awakened in the body of the Lu family's gravely ill eldest son, initially unable to move or speak 1.

The original Lu Sui had lost his mother young, disliked martial training, and preferred opera, songs, and the company of courtesans. Roughly half a year before the transmigration, an enemy's mysterious attack had left him bleeding from the mouth and nose and confined to bed. His successor inherited both the family's wealth and its unresolved blood feud 1 2.

Household Attacks and the Lu–Yu Feud

Lu Sui began training under Dou Xiaowen to recover his health and protect himself. His growing hearing abilities uncovered a needle-pierced straw effigy bearing his birth details. He later hacked apart the effigy after discovering Granny Ma's attempt to harm him; she died that night. The incident earned him greater trust from Lu Yulin and access to household resources 3 17 19 20.

By eavesdropping on a hostile senior sister and junior brother, Lu Sui learned that the Yu family's surviving heir had used Suppression Art against the original owner to pressure Lu Yulin into revealing the family's supposed Ginseng King. He also discovered discussion of a household mole and disputed accounts of the Lu family's ancestral treasures 22 23.

Lu Yulin subsequently exposed Luo Dongsheng's betrayal, while Chai Sanjin killed Luo and captured the sorceress Yuniang. Lu Sui helped his father present their actions sympathetically to the public. The Yu heir remained at large, prompting Lu Sui to intensify his training 27 28.

Martial School and the Zhou Qing Investigation

Lu Sui entered the Hundred Victories Martial Arts School under Tan Jingzong. His rapid progress and attention from Bai Fangfang provoked Deng Yun, whom he defeated in a school spar. He also used meals and celebrations to build connections with fellow disciples and learn more about Changle County 34 36 40 42.

After detecting Calamity Qi on Zhou Qing, Lu Sui suspected a connection to the sinister deaths at Zhenyuan Escort Agency. Deng Yun later confronted him in an alley, blamed him for his family's deaths, and threatened to kill him. Lu Sui killed Deng, reported his strange condition to Lu Yulin, and disclosed Deng's association with Zhou Qing. He then left the investigation to his father rather than pursue it alone 42 45 47 48.

Fate and Family Secrets

Piercing the Obscure revealed the inscription “Owl God Enters Fate” above Lu Sui's reflection. Because the Owl God Fate also appeared in accounts of the Yu family, he briefly questioned whether his surname should be Yu. He rejected a simple switched-child explanation and suspected that the feud concealed a deeper history 51 52.

Yang Kunbing's recognition of his newly acquired Root and Nature opened further questions about his future. During a private conversation, Lu Yulin began revealing the family's true background and disclosed an existing marriage arrangement with the side of the godmother he had acknowledged in his youth 58 67.

Appearance

  • Face: Upturned phoenix eyes and delicate, handsome features; his initial pallor and pale lips reflected his severe illness 1.
  • Build: Training replaces his thin, sickly frame with broad shoulders, long legs, an upright back, and lean muscle 14 48 51.
  • Hair and skin: Blood renewal leaves his skin smooth and fair and his hair glossy black, temporarily growing as long as his waist 47.
  • Bearing: Xiaotang notices an increasingly imposing, almost “immortal” air. Lu Sui himself would prefer a more rugged appearance to his refined looks 48.

Personality

Lu Sui prizes survival after experiencing death once already. He favors preparation, reliable protection, and steady growth over unnecessary risks. Although curious about the wider world, he willingly remains at home while enemies threaten him and later entrusts the Zhou Qing investigation to his more experienced father 1 13 48.

His dedication contrasts sharply with the original owner's aversion to hardship. He follows a routine of breathing exercises, stance training, medicinal meals, and later punching practice. He treats the temple's intelligent arts as personalities to encourage, feed, and understand rather than as passive techniques 5 12 37 39.

He combines generosity with an awareness of its practical benefits. Treating disciples to meals and sharing Bone-Strengthening Soup help him form friendships and establish a favorable reputation. He explicitly regards spending the family's wealth to build goodwill as a lesson learned from Lu Yulin 42 56.

When threatened, he can be cold and ruthless: he destroys Granny Ma's effigy, suggests driving nails through Yuniang's shoulder blades to hinder rescue, and kills Deng Yun. Nevertheless, he is uncomfortable with Lu Yulin's casual discussion of exterminating an enemy's entire family 19 20 27 47.
