Ch. 361The Nerubian Trap

Aaron pursued a Nerubian into a trap, survived being dragged underground and bound in webbing, and killed the Nerubians with his summoned Brilliant Greatsword and Holy Light. He then realized the narrow opening above might make escaping the pit difficult.

  • Aaron chased a Nerubian through the Ruby Dragonshrine until he stepped into a hidden pit.
  • Aaron threw his warhammer and killed the Nerubian, but a force dragged him underground into another Nerubian's tunnel.
  • A Nerubian covered Aaron in webbing and dragged him, but Aaron summoned the Brilliant Greatsword, freed himself, and killed the creature with Holy Light.
  • Aaron complained to Xal'atath about not helping, and she explained that Ner'zhul controlled the Nerubians.
  • Aaron found the opening too narrow to fly through easily and asked whether Xal'atath's wings could carry him out.

Ch. 362The Red Dragon Queen's Request

Aaron helped Krasus and the other dragons wipe out Nerubians near the dragonshrines, then returned to Wyrmrest Temple. Alexstrasza asked him to help stop the Nerubians from targeting dragon remains, assigning dragons to assist him.

  • Vereesa helped Aaron climb out of the cavern and used a spell to remove the spiderwebs and dirt clinging to him.
  • Aaron, Krasus, Stellagosa, and the other dragons killed the Nerubians in the tunnels and collapsed the passages after Aaron confirmed none remained.
  • Krasus took Aaron around the dragonshrines, where they found and defeated more Nerubian groups.
  • Aaron and the others reported the attacks to Alexstrasza at Wyrmrest Temple.
  • Alexstrasza asked Aaron to help deal with the Nerubians and protect the dragon remains, and assigned several dragons to assist him.

Ch. 363Deep into Azjol-Nerub

Aaron led the group into Azjol-Nerub, where Vereesa tracked the Nerubians toward their underground kingdom. After Stellagosa uncovered a nest of eggs and froze the hatchlings that attacked her, undead Nerubians emerged and battled the group.

  • Aaron brought the dragons and their companions to the western Dragonblight entrance to Azjol-Nerub.
  • Vereesa followed fresh claw marks to guide the group toward the Nerubians' nest.
  • The group found black stone walls carved with patterns and discovered a cluster of Nerubian eggs beneath webs.
  • The eggs hatched, and Stellagosa froze the aggressive spiderlings with her breath.
  • A Nerubian accused the group of killing its offspring, then several undead Nerubians attacked them with spells, webs, and venom.
  • Aaron and the others fought back as his shield shone with white light near the undead Nerubians.

Ch. 364Minions of the Old Gods

Aaron and the others fought their way through the underground kingdom, purifying the Old Gods’ minions and killing a powerful Faceless One. As Aaron finished cleansing the creature, Vereesa discovered a Nerubian hiding nearby, who asked if they had come to help.

  • Aaron identified the moving tentacles as minions of the Old Gods and purified them with Holy Light.
  • The group continued through the passages and easily defeated several Nerubians.
  • Krasus attacked an enormous Faceless One while Aaron wounded it with Strom'kar, drawing its attention.
  • Krasus and the others injured the Faceless One, and Aaron climbed onto its head and drove his sword through its skull.
  • Aaron began purifying the Faceless One, while Vereesa fired an arrow toward nearby footsteps and called for whoever was hiding to come out.
  • A Nerubian cautiously emerged from around the corner and asked whether the group had come to help them.

Ch. 365Nerubian survivors

Aaron and his companions encountered a frightened living Nerubian who led them to the survivors’ refuge after learning they wanted to stop the undead from threatening dragon remains. The group waited outside the camp while Prophet Ixith came out to meet them.

  • Aaron stopped his companions from attacking the Nerubian, healed him to confirm he was alive, and persuaded him to approach.
  • The Nerubian asked whether they had come to kill Anub'arak, and Aaron explained their mission to stop the undead from targeting dragon remains.
  • Aaron convinced the Nerubian to seek help from the elders, and the Nerubian led the group through underground passages toward the survivors.
  • The Nerubian left Aaron's group outside the crude refuge while he reported their arrival to the elders, and Vereesa noticed sentries watching them.
  • Prophet Ixith emerged from the camp and introduced himself to the group.

Ch. 366Anub'arak's lair

Aaron and the dragons joined the surviving Nerubians in Azjol-Nerub, agreeing to kill Anub'arak and draw the Lich King's attention. They reached the entrance to Anub'arak's lair, where Ixtet began to explain why he hated the traitor king.

  • Ixtet welcomed Aaron's group, and Aaron persuaded Krasus and the others to target Anub'arak as a way to weaken the Lich King and advance their plan.
  • The Nerubian elders guided the group through Azjol-Nerub, where they killed Krik'thir and Krasus burned his body to prevent him from being raised again.
  • The survivors found Hadronox alive, and the giant spider helped them clear undead Nerubians from their path.
  • Aaron had the Nerubians weave a giant net, and the dragons carried the group down to the lowest level outside Anub'arak's lair.
  • Kilix pointed out the lair, and Ixtet began telling Aaron what Anub'arak had done to the Nerubians.

Ch. 367Death of the Traitor King

Ixtet recounted Anub'arak's betrayal of the Nerubians, and the group confronted the undead king in his palace. After Anub'arak ambushed Aaron underground, Aaron mortally wounded him, and the king fell, wondering if it was finally over.

  • Ixtet explained how Anub'arak had returned from Icecrown claiming to have defeated Ner'zhul, then secretly opened Azjol-Nerub's defenses to the undead.
  • Vereesa sensed movement underground, and Anub'arak emerged, demanding that the Nerubian elders surrender.
  • The Nerubian elders and their allies attacked Anub'arak, while the dragons took their true forms and forced him to retreat underground.
  • Aaron pursued Anub'arak, who ambushed him with a swarm of beetles, but Aaron broke one of his horns with a warhammer.
  • Aaron followed Anub'arak to the surface and pierced his abdomen with Strom'kar, leaving the king mortally wounded.
  • Anub'arak's enormous body crashed to the ground as he murmured, "Is it... finally over?"

Ch. 368The Scourge's temporary allies

After Anub'arak's death, Aaron warned the Nerubians about their undead and discussed teaching them the Holy Light, while waiting for Krasus and the dragons. Mal'Ganis reported the planned assault on the Frozen Throne to Tichondrius, who allied with the Faceless Ones to protect Ner'zhul's role in Kil'jaeden's plan.

  • Prophet Ixtet thanked Aaron and his companions for killing Anub'arak, but Aaron warned that the undead Nerubians still posed a danger.
  • The Nerubian elders asked Aaron to teach them the Holy Light, and Aaron explained he could not yet help people without a foundation wield it.
  • Aaron stayed near the Nerubian camp while Krasus went to gather dragons, and his Truthguard reacted to nearby undead as he searched with Vereesa.
  • Mal'Ganis revealed himself after Aaron left and returned to Icecrown Citadel to tell Tichondrius that the dragons planned to attack the Frozen Throne.
  • Tichondrius arranged an alliance with the Faceless Ones, who would help the Dreadlords evade the dragons in exchange for assistance with their plan.
  • Tichondrius informed Ner'zhul of the arrangement, and Ner'zhul bitterly accepted it because he had no power to resist.

Ch. 369The Undead Swarm

Aaron and the dragons fought Ner'zhul’s seemingly endless undead aerial army, then discovered the floating citadels were sending reinforcements. Aaron flew toward one citadel to find a way inside and stop the flow.

  • Aaron joined Krasus’s force of over a hundred dragons and flew toward Icecrown Citadel with Vereesa and Stellagosa.
  • The dragons encountered a vast Scourge force of gargoyles, undead, and proto-dragons, and the two sides clashed in the sky.
  • The dragons killed undead faster than they could be attacked, but the enemy’s numbers never diminished, and the floating citadels kept the dragons’ advance at a standstill.
  • Vereesa realized the floating citadels were the source of the endless undead, and Aaron spotted the creatures emerging from one of them.
  • Aaron summoned a black gryphon, flew past the undead blockade, located a citadel’s entrance, and urged the gryphon inside.

Ch. 370The fall of the floating city

Aaron destroyed the runes that revived the undead and fought his way through Naxxramas to kill its Lich controller. As he escaped the collapsing floating city, he saw another nearby city begin to fall as well.

  • Aaron used Holy Light to extinguish the magical runes, stopping the undead from reviving, then searched the lower level for a teleportation array.
  • Aaron teleported to the upper level under Divine Shield and encountered a Lich, who sent Abominations to attack him.
  • Aaron fought through the Abominations with Strom'kar and claimed that his companions had already destroyed another floating city, unsettling the Lich.
  • Aaron took advantage of the Lich's hesitation, severed his chains, and shattered him, causing the floating city to tremble.
  • Aaron escaped as the floating city collapsed and saw another nearby floating city beginning to fall.

Ch. 371Capturing a Floating City?

Aaron and Krasus defeated the Lich controlling the last floating city and considered taking the airborne fortress for themselves. Aaron asked Xal'atath to free the Lich from Ner'zhul's control so he could pilot it, despite the risk that he might go mad.

  • Krasus destroyed a floating city with dragonfire, while Aaron noticed that fire could be effective against undead.
  • Aaron and Krasus chased the last floating city, entered it, and fought through its undead defenders.
  • Krasus captured the Lich controlling the city, and Aaron stopped him from killing their prisoner.
  • Aaron proposed flying the floating city back, and Krasus admitted he could not operate its controls without help.
  • Aaron summoned Xal'atath to awaken the Lich's free will, and she began despite warning that the Lich might go mad.

Ch. 372The unyielding lich

Xal'atath tried to free the lich from the Lich King's control by stirring his emotions, but the lich blew himself up before Aaron could question him. Aaron and Krasus abandoned the floating city, and the Dragonflights cleared the way toward Icecrown Citadel.

  • Xal'atath examined the lich's memories and told Aaron that her work was done.
  • Aaron approached the partially restrained lich and tried to make him cooperate.
  • Krasus pulled Aaron away as the lich detonated himself, leaving a crater in the floating city.
  • Aaron recognized the lich as a likely loyalist of Ner'zhul and regretted losing the chance to take the city.
  • Krasus cleared the remaining undead from the floating city's lower levels and let it fall.
  • The Dragonflights finished defeating the flying undead, leaving the route to Icecrown Citadel clear.

Ch. 373Leave request

Aaron realized he had transmigrated into Azeroth after recognizing a visiting High Elf and confirming that Lordaeron and Dalaran still existed. As he tried to estimate the era and his chances of surviving, the elf approached him after noticing him staring.

  • Aaron recognized the elf’s features and asked the innkeeper whether the nearby kingdoms were Alterac and Dalaran, confirming that he was in Lordaeron.
  • Aaron told Chef Nosh that he wanted to know the year, then left the kitchen to look at the elf waiting outside the inn.
  • Aaron recognized the elf’s mount as a Thalassian Horse and reasoned that the Scourge had not yet devastated the Eastern Kingdoms.
  • Aaron recalled how he had fallen asleep after playing World of Warcraft and awakened in the wilderness, eventually finding work at the inn.
  • The elf noticed Aaron staring at her and walked toward him.

Ch. 374Icecrown Citadel and the Frozen Throne

Aaron, Vereesa, and Krasus reached Icecrown Citadel and found its grounds deserted, though they sensed Ner'zhul’s presence at the Frozen Throne. A Dreadlord confronted them on the summit, and the three attacked him.

  • Aaron and Vereesa noticed that no undead were visible around Icecrown Citadel, and Aaron warned Krasus that the withdrawal might be suspicious.
  • Krasus detected a powerful deathly presence atop the citadel and flew there to investigate, while Aaron and Vereesa followed.
  • Aaron, Vereesa, and Krasus reached the Frozen Throne and saw Ner'zhul bound within the ice, with a lone Dreadlord guarding the platform.
  • The Dreadlord mocked the group, and Aaron, Vereesa, and Krasus attacked him with Holy Light, a thunder-charged arrow, and dragon breath.

Ch. 375Mal'Ganis's Fate

Aaron and the dragons defeated Mal'Ganis, while Xal'atath bound his soul and Aaron purified his body with Holy Light instead of killing him outright. With the Dreadlord sent away for the Halls of Valor, Aaron turned to the Frozen Throne and faced the question of what to do with Ner'zhul.

  • Mal'Ganis introduced himself and attacked Aaron, while Aaron questioned why the Dreadlord was alone at Icecrown Citadel.
  • Aaron, Vereesa, Krasus, and an increasing number of dragons fought Mal'Ganis until Aaron knocked him down and the dragons trapped him.
  • Aaron stopped the dragons from killing Mal'Ganis and summoned Xal'atath, who used golden runes to imprison the Dreadlord's soul.
  • Aaron poured Holy Light into Mal'Ganis, burning away his body while Xal'atath sent his captured soul to the Halls of Valor.
  • Aaron looked toward the Frozen Throne and wondered what to do with Ner'zhul.

Ch. 376Frostmourne

Aaron reached the Frozen Throne and tried to free Ner'zhul, but as Krasus melted the ice, they discovered Frostmourne instead of the Lich King's armor. Aaron pulled out the sword and was overwhelmed by a psychic force, collapsing unconscious.

  • Aaron found the Frozen Throne and failed to crack it with the Silver Hand Warhammer.
  • Krasus used fireballs to melt the ice while Aaron considered what to do with Ner'zhul and the Scourge.
  • Aaron noticed Frostmourne emerging from the ice, and Vereesa and Krasus sensed the sword's dangerous chill.
  • Aaron covered his hand in Holy Light and pulled Frostmourne free, but its psychic force struck him and he fell unconscious.

Ch. 377The Lich King's whereabouts

Aaron survived Frostmourne’s attempt to corrupt him with the Holy Light and took control of the sword. While Aaron headed toward Icecrown Citadel to investigate Ner'zhul’s disappearance, Ner'zhul and the Dreadlords helped the Faceless Ones pursue a plan to free their Old God master.

  • Aaron collapsed after touching Frostmourne, but Xal'atath told Vereesa that he was safe as the Holy Light resisted the sword’s magic.
  • Aaron woke, explained that he had underestimated Frostmourne, and kept the sword rather than purifying or destroying it.
  • Aaron smashed the remaining Frozen Throne and suspected Frostmourne had been left behind to distract them from the real plan.
  • Ner'zhul sensed that his connection to Frostmourne had broken and told Tichondrius that their plan needed the sword.
  • Tichondrius urged Ner'zhul to help the Faceless Ones break open their master's prison, while Varimathras questioned whether they intended to release the Old Gods.

Ch. 378Traces of the undead

Aaron and Krasus searched Icecrown Citadel for the undead, following their tracks into a hastily dug tunnel. They discovered signs that the Faceless Ones had been involved, leaving the source of their presence to be uncovered.

  • Aaron and Krasus found Icecrown Glacier strangely empty despite the Scourge's large forces, so they led dragons to search Icecrown Citadel.
  • The dragons cleared the surviving gargoyles from the citadel entrances, and Aaron guided Krasus to the main gate.
  • Aaron, Krasus, and Vereesa followed the undead tracks through the fortress, with Krasus using a spell to block the stench.
  • Vereesa led the group to a hastily dug tunnel at the citadel's lowest level, where Krasus sensed unfamiliar evil magic.
  • Aaron recognized strange claw, tooth, and gouging marks as evidence of Faceless Ones, and Krasus identified the magic as theirs.

Ch. 379Roadblocks were hard to clear

Aaron and Krasus found a passage blocked by floating cities filled with plague victims, but clearing one revealed another behind it. They left dragons to watch the Undead and planned to prepare for Ulduar, until Aaron spotted an unusual dragon and realized something had gone wrong.

  • Aaron and Krasus followed the passage to find the Undead, despite Aaron’s doubts about their alliance with the Faceless Ones.
  • They discovered a floating city blocking the tunnel and found it filled with corpses that appeared to have died from a plague.
  • Aaron and Krasus destroyed part of the city, only to find an identical floating city behind it, and decided to leave dragons at Icecrown Citadel to monitor the Undead.
  • Aaron and Krasus agreed to return to Wyrmrest Temple and prepare to confront Loken and Yogg-Saron at Ulduar.
  • Aaron planned to ask Archaedas to quiet Frostmourne’s restless magic, but spotted an unusual dragon and said things had taken a bad turn.

Ch. 380Shadow of the Void Dragon

Aaron recognized the void dragon brought from Coldarra as a possible move by the Infinite Dragonflight to trigger Malygos’s war against mortal spellcasters. When Krasus could not open a portal because the ley lines were being weakened, Aaron realized Malygos had already begun acting and asked how many dragons it would take to subdue a dragon king.

  • Aaron saw a void dragon at Wyrmrest Temple and suspected the Infinite Dragonflight had brought it to Azeroth for a purpose.
  • Krasus brought Sikel to explain that he had found the void dragon in Coldarra and brought it along with more than a dozen blue dragons sent by Saragosa.
  • Sikel estimated that he had seen a few dozen void dragons in Coldarra, alarming Aaron, who feared they would draw Malygos into conflict with mortal spellcasters.
  • Aaron asked Krasus to open a portal to Coldarra, but Krasus failed because the ley lines were being interfered with.
  • Skelar sensed that someone was weakening the ley lines, and Aaron concluded that Malygos had already started; he asked how many ordinary dragons it would take to subdue a dragon king.
