Ch. 761The new commander

After the resistance chose Jarod as its new commander, Aaron helped him coordinate with the reinforcements and returned the Fangs of Ashamane to Cenarius. Goldrinn then presented Aaron with daggers made from his own broken teeth.

  • Aaron supported Jarod for commander, ending the debate, while Illidan stormed out and Illysanna followed him.
  • Jarod took command, ordered the surviving leaders to count their losses, and met with the reinforcements alongside Aaron.
  • Aaron explained the Burning Legion to the different allied groups, then Jarod met the Wild Gods and Cenarius promised their cooperation.
  • Aaron gave the Fangs of Ashamane to Cenarius and urged him to find a suitable wielder.
  • Goldrinn, inspired by Aaron's explanation, broke off several teeth and infused them with power to make daggers, then asked Aaron how they compared to Ashamane's fangs.

Ch. 762Fangs of Goldrinn

Goldrinn gave Aaron daggers made from his fangs, whose wild power transformed Aaron into a Worgen and caused Malfurion to become an antlered wolf. As the Burning Legion advanced toward Black Rook Hold, Aaron kept the Fangs of Goldrinn for the coming battle.

  • Goldrinn gave Aaron his fang daggers, and Aaron felt their violent killing intent grow stronger as he held them.
  • Aaron was compelled to howl at the White Lady, transformed into a Worgen, and found he could not control Goldrinn’s power within him.
  • Aaron learned Goldrinn had also given a dagger to Malfurion, then followed Goldrinn to Cenarius and found Malfurion bound in vines and acting irrationally.
  • Goldrinn reclaimed his power from Malfurion and the daggers, while Cenarius’s blessing helped Malfurion regain his reason.
  • Aaron named the daggers the Fangs of Goldrinn and took them up again as the Burning Legion advanced toward Black Rook Hold.

Ch. 763Mortal heroes

The resistance at Black Rook Hold faced a vast Burning Legion army, with Jarod Shadowsong and other fighters leading the defense. After the demons withdrew to regroup, the resistance learned that the Dragonflights' plan had failed, and one person proposed closing the portal themselves.

  • The Burning Legion gathered its scattered forces and surrounded Black Rook Hold with an army larger than any the resistance had faced before.
  • Jarod Shadowsong directed the defense while Huln Highmountain tried to save the fel-corrupted Nian Beast, and Maiev rescued Huln from an ambush.
  • Tyrande watched over Shandris as she fought to prove herself, while Maiev competed with her rival to kill demons.
  • The forests of Val'sharah, Cenarius, and the Wild Gods' followers aided the resistance, and the demons withdrew to regroup after suffering repeated blows.
  • An informant in Zin-Azshari reported that the Dragonflights' operation had failed, and an unnamed person suggested that the resistance close the portal themselves.

Ch. 764The raid plan

Aaron proposed sending an elite squad to Zin-Azshari to close the portal and disrupt the nearby Ley Lines, and Jarod approved the plan. The mostly Night Elf team departed through a portal, while Jarod stayed behind worried about their mission and his sister Maiev.

  • Jarod doubted that the resistance could attack Zin-Azshari, so Aaron explained that a small elite squad could infiltrate the city and close the portal.
  • Malfurion revealed that Illidan had suggested using the portal's power to disrupt the Ley Lines, and said Illidan had gone to Zin-Azshari alone after Malfurion rejected the plan.
  • Jarod approved the raid, and the resistance chose a squad of Night Elves, excluding Arcanists and including Aaron, Malfurion, and many priestesses of the Sisterhood of Elune.
  • The Arcanists opened a portal to a Temple of the Moon near Zin-Azshari, and the squad departed after Aaron promised Jarod he would do his best.
  • Jarod watched the team leave, worried because his sister Maiev was among them, then returned to his duties.

Ch. 765Zin-Azshari at War

Aaron and his surviving allies entered Zin-Azshari and reached the Eternal Palace to disrupt the Burning Legion’s portal, aided by Illidan’s infiltration. They encountered Xavius and his Satyrs, forcing a confrontation as the battle at Black Rook Hold appeared close to collapse.

  • The high priestess stayed at the Temple of the Moon to comfort the priestesses and guard the team’s retreat route while Aaron led the others toward Zin-Azshari.
  • Malfurion sensed that the forests were weeping, and Aaron urged him onward while suspecting that the Wild Gods at Black Rook Hold were falling.
  • Aaron and his companions entered Zin-Azshari, where they met occasional demons and lost more than half their members before reaching the Eternal Palace.
  • Malfurion confronted Illidan about his Fel-tainted appearance, and Illidan explained that he had changed himself to gain the demons’ trust and approach the Well of Eternity.
  • Illidan helped Aaron’s group move through the Eternal Palace, but Xavius arrived with a group of Satyrs, making a fight unavoidable.

Ch. 766The struggle for the Dragon Soul

Aaron’s team found the Dragon Soul in the Eternal Palace, where its unstable power had drawn Highborne, demons, and the Infinite Dragonflight. With the groups at a wary standoff, Aaron sent Illidan to provoke a fight and create an opening to seize the artifact.

  • Xavius confronted the group, and Malfurion stayed behind with Tyrande and others to hold off the Satyr King and his satyrs.
  • Aaron learned that Illysanna had followed Illidan and received Sargeras’s gift of power.
  • Aaron and his remaining companions followed Illidan’s guidance and found the unstable Dragon Soul surrounded by rival forces.
  • Illysanna reported that the Infinite Dragonflight, Highborne, and demons were cautiously watching one another rather than fighting.
  • Aaron told Illidan to disguise himself as a demon and attack the Infinite Dragonflight, then suggested he throw the Dragon Soul toward one side to spark chaos.
  • Illidan reluctantly gathered his fel energy and charged out toward the rival groups.

Ch. 767A Disturbance at the Portal

Illidan seized the Dragon Soul and used it to defeat the enemies surrounding him before Aaron took the artifact from him. The group reached the demon portal intending to close it, but Sargeras began emerging through it.

  • Illidan took the Dragon Soul, resisted the elves, demons, and Infinite Dragonflight, and defeated them with its power.
  • Aaron eased Illidan's exhaustion and took the Dragon Soul after Illidan released it.
  • Aaron and Broxigar helped Illidan join Malfurion's group and hurried toward the Well of Eternity.
  • Malfurion told Aaron's group how he had defeated Xavius by using Shandris's arrow to summon an oak tree that swallowed him.
  • The group reached the portal, which expanded as the demons stopped emerging from it.
  • A gigantic dark red fist emerged from the portal, and the group recognized its owner as Sargeras.

Ch. 768The fallen Titan Sargeras

As Sargeras began forcing his way through the portal, Aaron handed the Dragon Soul to Malfurion so he could try to close it. Broxigar struck Sargeras and was killed, while a figure wreathed in golden light rushed to interfere with the Titan’s efforts to cross.

  • Aaron recognized Sargeras and urged Illidan to find a way to close the portal, but Illidan told Malfurion to use the Dragon Soul instead.
  • Illidan taught Malfurion how to control the Dragon Soul, and Aaron entrusted the artifact to him as Sargeras’s arrival accelerated.
  • Broxigar charged at Sargeras and wounded his fist with an axe strike.
  • Sargeras caught Broxigar, burned him to ashes with fel, and then hastened his passage through the portal.
  • A figure shrouded in golden light rushed to Sargeras’s fist and interfered with his work on the portal.

Ch. 769The last Holy Light

Aaron confronted Sargeras to disrupt his attempt to enter Azeroth, but his dwindling Holy Light left him unable to withstand another attack. Sargeras’s final shout echoed through the portal, and the Sundering followed.

  • Xal'atath awakened and warned Aaron that Sargeras would enter Azeroth before Malfurion could control the Dragon Soul unless someone stopped him.
  • Aaron told Vereesa he had to risk his life, then summoned Holy Light wings and wielded the Thorn of the Holy Light.
  • Aaron struck Sargeras’s fel runes, briefly shaking the portal and drawing Sargeras’s attention.
  • Sargeras attacked Aaron with fel spells and a flaming sword, forcing him to exhaust nearly all the Holy Light he could use.
  • A voice from below shouted for Aaron to move, Sargeras cried out through the portal, and the Sundering followed.

Ch. 770The Sundering

Malfurion’s attack caused the demon portal to collapse, triggering the Sundering and shattering most of Kalimdor. Aaron watched the surviving Night Elves settle on Mount Hyjal, then learned from Chromie that they still had to deal with the Infinite Dragonflight.

  • Malfurion unleashed the Dragon Soul’s energy into the demon portal, and Aaron warned the others as it began to collapse.
  • The portal exploded, and the Well of Eternity erupted into an energy storm that split Zin-Azshari and tore Kalimdor apart.
  • The Sundering shattered eighty percent of Kalimdor, while the demon army lost its reinforcements and the survivors faced the disaster’s aftermath.
  • The resistance forces at Black Rook Hold survived under Shaladrassil’s protection but migrated east because their land could no longer sustain them.
  • Aaron watched the Night Elves establish camps on Mount Hyjal after the Dragon Aspects blessed the World Tree and Illidan was imprisoned.
  • Chromie reminded Aaron that they still needed to deal with the Infinite Dragonflight.

Ch. 771The Chosen Battlefield

Aaron and Vereesa followed Chromie to the Bronze Dragonflight’s chosen battlefield in Sholazar Basin, where she revealed the Infinite Dragonflight planned to stop Azeroth’s World-Soul from awakening. The final confrontation was about to begin, and Chromie said the Infinite Dragonflight’s plan had been prompted by Aaron.

  • Chromie told Aaron that the Bronze Dragonflight had gained the upper hand but could not yet explain why she needed his help.
  • Chromie took Aaron and Vereesa through a Titan teleporter to Northrend and flew them toward Sholazar Basin.
  • Chromie explained that the area was sealed off from the outside world and that the Infinite Dragonflight intended to prevent Azeroth’s World-Soul from awakening.
  • Aaron was shocked by the revelation, and Chromie told him the Infinite Dragonflight’s plan was because of him.
  • Chromie landed with Aaron and Vereesa on a platform where bronze dragons had gathered for the coming confrontation.

Ch. 772Bronze Dragonflight versus Infinite Dragonflight

Aaron, Vereesa, and Chromie watched the Bronze Dragonflight battle the Infinite Dragonflight, whose desperation made them dangerous despite the Bronze dragons’ advantage. Murozond finally appeared and challenged Nozdormu, who emerged from Maker’s Overlook to face him.

  • Aaron saw the Bronze Dragonflight gather in overwhelming numbers, and Chromie explained that the battle would decide their future and that they needed more dragonkin.
  • The Infinite Dragonflight emerged through a time portal and attacked, fighting recklessly despite the Bronze Dragonflight’s preparations and numerical advantage.
  • Aaron explained to Vereesa that the Infinite dragons had gone mad after repeatedly seeing futures in which they could not prevent the world’s destruction.
  • The Bronze Dragonflight began to suppress its enemies, but Chromie grew tense because Murozond had not yet appeared.
  • Murozond arrived through a massive time portal and called Nozdormu out to fight.
  • Nozdormu emerged from Maker’s Overlook, transformed into his dragon form, and answered Murozond’s challenge.

Ch. 773Murozond's End

Nozdormu confronted Murozond in Sholazar Basin and defeated the Infinite Dragonlord after questioning his belief in the End Time. With the battle over, Nozdormu told Aaron that the remaining matters were his to handle.

  • Nozdormu destroyed Murozond's time portal and forced him to fight while Aaron and Vereesa learned the Bronze Dragonflight had baited the Infinite Dragonflight into a trap.
  • Nozdormu and Murozond fought to a stalemate as the other dragons watched, and Nozdormu taunted his opponent before launching a sudden attack.
  • Murozond broke free and charged toward Chromie at Maker's Overlook, but Nozdormu intercepted him and continued demanding that he question his memories and supposed future.
  • Nozdormu killed Murozond, whose corpse dissolved into black smoke at the bottom of Sholazar Basin.
  • Nozdormu returned to Maker's Overlook, changed into a High Elf, and invited Aaron into Maker's Hall to handle the remaining matters.

Ch. 774About time

Aaron entered the Maker's Hall and met Azeroth, who explained that he had awakened her in another timeline and that waking her now would let her merge timelines and restore a single chain. Azeroth took control of Aaron's body to make him awaken her, but her explanation cut off before the process was complete.

  • Aaron struggled through the Maker's Hall's damaged defenses and reached the platform where he had first seen Azeroth's projection.
  • Aaron woke Xal'atath, who drew a rune on his forehead before going back to sleep, and the hall's platform began to glow as time stopped.
  • Azeroth appeared and told Aaron that he had awakened her in another timeline, while explaining that the universe had one timeline and that an unborn Titan created branching timelines around its world.
  • Azeroth said Aaron had been brought back to merge the timelines and restore a complete chain, then summoned a phantom of Aaron and made it overlap with him.
  • Azeroth vanished as Aaron's body began moving against his will, and her final explanation abruptly stopped.

Ch. 775Another Aaron

Aaron experienced the memories of another version of himself, whose attempts to change Azeroth’s history helped lead to disaster. As the phantom inside him burned away, he met Azeroth’s newly awakened World-Soul.

  • Aaron’s body sank to the platform as energy passed through his hands and memories from another timeline filled his mind.
  • The other Aaron joined the Silver Hand, survived the Battle of Mount Hyjal, and used his foreknowledge to alter events, including saving Admiral Daelin.
  • His changes worsened tensions between the Alliance and the Horde, and the conflict later escalated under Little Hellscream.
  • The Alliance dissolved the Horde, while Illidan’s escape and the Twilight’s Hammer’s actions brought the Burning Legion and N’Zoth’s threat to Azeroth.
  • The other Aaron traveled to the War of the Ancients and ignited his soul at Maker’s Perch to awaken Azeroth.
  • Aaron watched the other timeline’s memories end as Azeroth’s World-Soul appeared before him, and he greeted her.

Ch. 776A new task

Aaron discovered that the Azeroth he met was the already-awakened Azeroth, who planned to spend over ten thousand years integrating the timelines and wanted him to deal with the remaining Old Gods after returning. With a rune Azeroth placed on his forehead, Aaron opened a passage through time and prepared to take Vereesa home.

  • Azeroth told Aaron she would need over ten thousand years to integrate the timelines and warned that she could be corrupted if born before the remaining Old Gods were dealt with.
  • Azeroth pushed Aaron out of the Maker's Hall, and he returned to find Chromie waiting while Vereesa slept.
  • Aaron comforted Vereesa and used Holy Light to heal her, revealing that he had regained the power without the Tear of Elune.
  • Chromie explained that Aaron could use the rune on his forehead to open a one-use passage back through time.
  • Vereesa woke, and Aaron gathered her up and opened the passage with Holy Light, telling her they were going home.

Ch. 777Illidan's plan

Aaron returned to Mount Hyjal with Vereesa and Chromie, recovered the Silver Hand, and learned that Illidan expected him to honor a promise from another timeline. Aaron decided that joining Illidan’s campaign to Draenor could help gather allies while Azeroth’s forces recovered, and the group prepared to leave for the Broken Isles first.

  • Aaron, Vereesa, and Chromie emerged at Mount Hyjal, and Chromie soon flew away while Aaron and Vereesa made their way to Nordrassil.
  • Aaron discovered that Illidan had recruited Night Elves to fight the Burning Legion and was waiting for him to repay a debt.
  • Aaron retrieved the Silver Hand Warhammer, and Illidan reminded him of a promise made by another version of Aaron to help fight the Legion.
  • Illidan described his plan to seek artifacts in the Broken Isles and Draenor before building an army to attack Argus.
  • Aaron weighed Illidan’s plan against Azeroth’s need to confront the Old Gods, then decided that traveling to Draenor could secure allies while Azeroth recovered.
  • Vereesa asked to accompany Aaron, and Illidan said his ships were ready as Aaron agreed to head first for the Broken Isles.

Ch. 778Meeting the Naga again

Illidan summoned Lady Vashj and the Naga to take him and Aaron to the Broken Isles, promising them power to resist Azshara’s influence. Their fleet set sail after three days, while a group of Night Elves arrived at the port and pursued them, claiming they had found proof of Illidan’s crimes.

  • Illidan left Mount Hyjal with Aaron and his followers, explaining that he had waited because Aaron had warned him about Kil'jaeden and Maiev.
  • Aaron entrusted letters for himself and Vereesa to merchants at the port in Azshara before preparing to sail with Illidan.
  • Illidan summoned the Naga, and Lady Vashj agreed to help him reach the Broken Isles in exchange for power to resist what had transformed them.
  • Lady Vashj recognized Aaron, and the Naga resolved the fleet’s ocean-voyage problems with their knowledge of the sea.
  • The fleet departed on the third day after the Naga were summoned, and a group of Night Elves chartered ships to pursue Illidan, saying they had proof of his crimes.

Ch. 779Teleporting away

Aaron and Illidan reached the Broken Shore, where Illidan entered the Tomb of Sargeras and retrieved the Eye of Sargeras. When Watchers led by Maiev attacked, Illidan opened a portal to Outland, but Maiev and her followers pursued him through it.

  • Aaron learned that Lady Vashj had joined Illidan because she wanted to escape her monstrous form and the control of Azshara and the Old Gods.
  • Lady Vashj warned that the fleet was near the waters where an Old God slept, and Aaron suspected it was N'Zoth.
  • The fleet reached the Broken Shore, where Illidan ordered his followers to camp and entered the Tomb of Sargeras with the Skull of Gul'dan.
  • Illidan overcame the fel-corrupted spirits in the tomb and obtained the Eye of Sargeras.
  • Illidan used the Skull and the Eye to open a portal to Outland as Maiev and the Watchers attacked, then escaped through it with Aaron and Vereesa.
  • Maiev and the Watchers leapt through the fading portal after Illidan, pursuing him to Draenor.

Ch. 780First arrival in Outland

Aaron and Illidan arrived in Outland through the Dark Portal, where Illidan captured Maiev's Watchers and Aaron persuaded the group to head for Honor Hold. The party encountered gryphon riders overhead, who mistook them for enemies and raised the alarm.

  • Aaron emerged in Hellfire Peninsula with Illidan and their followers, then watched a separate portal form beneath the Dark Portal.
  • Maiev and the Watchers came through the new portal and were trapped in nets before they could escape the Naga witches.
  • Illidan ordered the Watchers kept alive and said he would imprison them once the group had settled.
  • Aaron identified Hellfire Citadel and directed Illidan toward Honor Hold, where the old Alliance Expedition had established a camp.
  • The group traveled along the Path of Glory and turned onto the road to Honor Hold.
  • Gryphon riders spotted the Naga and Night Elves, shouted that enemies were attacking, and alarmed the party.
