That was normal enough. Might Guy had been desperately honing his body since childhood and had never stopped for twenty or thirty years. Even with a cheat like the Gravity Training Room, it would be difficult for Xia Mu to surpass him in just a few years, especially since Xia Mu was still so young.
Still, Xia Mu's body was already strong enough. If he opened the Seventh Gate, he would definitely possess Shadow-level strength!
Not enough! Still not enough! This isn't all I want! At the very least, before the Fourth Shinobi World War, I need to reach the point where opening the Seventh Gate lets me kick Six Paths Madara to pieces! This body is eleven years old now. After I graduate from the Ninja Academy next year, I won't need to worry about my body anymore. I'll crank the gravity up to the human limit and train like crazy. At worst, I'll use up some Senzu Beans. I refuse to believe I can't achieve it!
With a plan in mind, Xia Mu read through the scroll once more.
Aside from the diagrams of the human body and the techniques for opening the gates, it also contained several moves, such as Konoha Whirlwind, Konoha Great Whirlwind, Morning Peacock, Reverse Lotus, Morning Peacock, Daytime Tiger, and more. However, it did not include Evening Elephant or Night Guy. Those were techniques used after opening the Gate of Death. Might Guy probably had not dared to record them, or perhaps he did not know them himself yet.
Some things could only be understood after reaching that level. Perhaps one could only comprehend the techniques of the Gate of Death after opening the Gate of Death.
Still, the principles behind those techniques were quite clear.
There was not much to say about Morning Peacock and Reverse Lotus. They were simply rapid attacks carried out through sheer speed. As long as one was fast enough, there was barely any technique involved. Morning Peacock, meanwhile, created fiery shockwaves by throwing high-speed straight punches that rubbed against the air, while Daytime Tiger compressed air into a single point to form a tiger-shaped air cannon.
Simply put, they made use of the air through overwhelming power. Whether by rubbing the air or compressing it, both could unleash terrifying force. They were equally formidable in long-range and close combat.
After Might Guy opened the Gate of Death, he could even distort space itself. That showed just how powerful he was.
No wonder Six Paths Madara called him the strongest taijutsu user. He really had nearly been kicked to death. If not for the Hashirama Cells saving his life, it would have been the end of the story.
Heh heh! When the time comes, I'll wait for Guy to finish kicking him, then go up and add another kick of my own—straight at his head. I refuse to believe the Hashirama Cells can revive you again! Still, the Eighth Gate is truly dangerous. I wonder if a Senzu Bean can save someone. Senzu Beans seem useless against soul damage, but opening the Eighth Gate damages the body. The soul should be fine, so could someone hold a Senzu Bean in their mouth while opening the Gate of Death?
Xia Mu considered that possibility. If he ever truly found himself in a dead end, perhaps he could give it a try.
Of course, he would find an opportunity later to give Might Guy a Senzu Bean and remind him that if he ever opened the Gate of Death, he had to keep it in his mouth. He would also have to be careful not to roar the Senzu Bean out of his mouth when shouting. That was something that could save his life.
Although Might Guy had not died after opening the Gate of Death in the original story, he had been left permanently disabled and barely had any role in Boruto. It was truly a pity.
Even if it was only to repay the favor of being taught the Eight Gates, Xia Mu would never allow Might Guy to end up like that.
Besides, Might Guy was Tenten's teacher. To keep Tenten from being sad, he could not let Might Guy come to harm!
Eight Gates (2) ### At dusk, Tenten returned looking valiant and spirited.
Though fatigue still lingered between her brows and her body was covered in sweat, she was full of energy. Clearly, she could still keep up with Might Guy's training regimen.
In the original story, Tenten's physical condition had not been able to keep up. Only after long-term training had she gradually adapted, and her Chakra had increased considerably as well. During the second Chunin Exams, she had summoned an ocean, and during the Fourth Shinobi World War, she had even waved the Bashosen several times. Her Chakra reserves were definitely at the jonin level.
But now, Tenten's physical condition was far stronger than it had been in the original story.
After Tenten took a bath, they sat down for dinner.
At the dinner table, the shop owner looked hesitant. From time to time, he glanced at Tenten, but seeing how happily she was eating, he did not dare ask anything.
Xia Mu nearly laughed at the sight.
That was only natural. Although his future father-in-law had learned about Tenten's situation from Xia Mu, he still wanted to hear it from Tenten herself. What someone else told him could never compare to hearing it from his own daughter.
Xia Mu quietly reached beneath the table and pinched Tenten's knee.
Tenten froze, then lifted her head from her bowl and looked at her boyfriend. She saw him subtly point his chin toward her father, then noticed the awkward expression on her father's face. She immediately understood.
Xia Mu spoke up at that moment. "Ahem! Tenten, how was your training today? Your dad and I are really curious."
The shop owner immediately perked up his ears, but then he quickly reacted and shot Xia Mu a sidelong glare.
Your dad? You sure said that smoothly!
Fortunately, Tenten immediately picked up the conversation. "Oh, training was pretty tough, but I can still keep up. Might Guy said that if you sweat more during training, you'll bleed less on missions. Oh, right, Dad, one of my teammates is a prodigy from the Hyuga Clan. I fought him before, and guess what? I had him suppressed the entire time..."
For a while, Tenten talked nonstop, as though she had returned to being the obedient little girl who had once loved sharing her daily life with her father.
The shop owner nodded repeatedly as he listened, occasionally asking a question. The smile on his face never faded, and the way he looked at Xia Mu softened considerably.
This future son-in-law was quite considerate. Maybe he should glare at him less in the future.
By the time dinner was over, the sky had already grown dark.
Tenten looked at the sky, then at Xia Mu, and a rare look of hesitation appeared on her face.
Puzzled, Xia Mu asked, "Tenten, what's wrong?"
Tenten quietly leaned against Xia Mu's shoulder and said softly, "Didn't you get the Eight Gates? I figured you'd definitely want to go home and start training right away, but it's getting dark. It might be dangerous for you to go home."
Tenten's concern was understandable.
Over the past few years, ever since the Uchiha Clan's destruction, the village's security had become far weaker than before. Spies were everywhere within the village, and there were occasional reports of children being abducted. This made Tenten even more cautious. Once night fell, she would not let Xia Mu walk home alone.
She simply knew Xia Mu too well.
All Xia Mu could think about was learning the Eight Gates. Now that he had gotten the scroll, he had to be desperate to learn it.
She did not want to stop him, but she could not help worrying. Even though she knew Xia Mu was not weak, worry was still worry.
Xia Mu wrapped his arms around her and smiled as he pinched her delicate nose. "You're worrying for nothing. Who said I was going home tonight? I may be eager to train in the Eight Gates, but I still need to thoroughly understand it first. You can learn with me tonight too. With your physical strength, opening the first three gates shouldn't be a problem. That'll be enough for you to handle plenty of enemies."
Tenten relaxed at those words, and a smile appeared on her face.
Then she dragged Xia Mu back to her room, pushed him onto the bed, climbed into his arms, and even pulled the blanket over them.
Xia Mu was dumbfounded. "Tenten, isn't this moving a little too fast? You're only twelve, and I'm only eleven. Even if your dad is anxious to hold a grandchild, it shouldn't be to this extent..."
"What are you thinking about?!"
Tenten glared at him. "Didn't you say we were learning the Eight Gates together? Take out the scroll!"
So that was it. But even if they were learning together, did they really need to share a blanket? This was far too easy to misunderstand!
Xia Mu did not object. After all, he was not the one losing out. He simply held Tenten and opened the scroll, studying the Eight Gates with her. Fortunately, he was still young. Otherwise, he doubted he could keep himself under control.
Still, since they were already sharing a blanket, he was entitled to some benefits.
Mm, tonight's kiss tasted like mint. It seemed to be the flavor of toothpaste.
A few more days passed, and the first day of the month arrived.
Xia Mu had been waiting for this day all along.
It was true that he was eager to train in the Eight Gates, but he was also an extremely cautious person.
Over the past few days, he had memorized every key point and move of the Eight Gates, repeatedly reviewing them in his mind. He had been waiting for the Special Laboratory to open on the night of the first so that he could train without restraint.
Xia Mu had already told Tenten about it, so he would not be going to her house that night.
Tenten also knew of his habit of training through the night on the first of every month, so she did not ask further.
As soon as seven o'clock arrived, Xia Mu entered the Special Laboratory with a thought. Without wasting any time, he directly followed the techniques in the scroll and opened the first gate.
"Eight Gates, First Gate—Opening Gate, open!"
Buzz! It felt as though some kind of shackle had been unlocked in his mind. He could feel every ounce of strength in his body under his control.
Xia Mu created a wooden dummy with his mind, then flashed in front of it and kicked its chin, sending it flying into the air.
Whoosh! Xia Mu appeared beneath the dummy. This was Shadow of the Dancing Leaf, the opening move of Morning Peacock.
Since Xia Mu did not have bandages wrapped around his hands, he simply reached out, grabbed the dummy from behind, and spun down toward the ground with it.
"Morning Peacock!"
Boom! A huge crater appeared in the ground, and the wooden dummy was smashed to pieces.
But Xia Mu was not very satisfied. Morning Peacock's damage is pretty high, but the windup is a bit too long. It doesn't seem very suitable for me. Besides, I don't have to follow the scroll's moves exactly. It'd be best to develop my own techniques.
The first few gates basically only increased attack speed and strength. Even Reverse Lotus was merely a rapid-attack move. Xia Mu's Six Styles could also be used, and their effects were not bad either. The later gates, however, made use of the air, rubbing it or compressing it to produce terrifying offensive effects. He could absolutely develop other moves from that.
For example, he could take inspiration from the Tri-Beam in Dragon Ball. Its power naturally would not be weak.
Of course, Xia Mu would first learn Morning Peacock and Daytime Tiger before considering anything else. Since ready-made techniques were available to learn, who would be willing to rack their brains?
Moreover, learning powerful techniques would allow him to understand their underlying methods—such as how to rub the air and how to compress it for maximum attack power. Those were all things he could learn. Only after grasping their essence would it become easier to develop new techniques. A towering building began from level ground; rootless duckweed fell in wind and rain. That was the principle.
"Second Gate—Gate of Healing, open!"
"Third Gate—Gate of Life, open!"
"Fourth Gate—Gate of Pain, open!"
Pain Fainted Him ### After opening the Fourth Gate, Xia Mu felt a faint prickling pain throughout his body, and his skin began to redden.
Yet his strength was rising explosively. With just a light stomp, he could create a large crater in the ground, and when he ran, his speed became astonishingly fast.
During the Chunin Exams, Rock Lee had opened the Fourth Gate while fighting Gaara, leaving Gaara utterly dumbfounded.
Although Gaara had his mother's Sand Coffin protecting him, his own reactions were nowhere near enough. He could not even see Rock Lee's movements clearly. If Rock Lee had not suffered such heavy recoil damage and left openings in his attacks because of the pain, Gaara would not even have had time to activate Sand Clone. He would definitely have been seriously injured by Reverse Lotus.
At that time, Gaara likely possessed the strength of an average jonin.
In other words, Rock Lee could briefly unleash the power of an average jonin.
What about me? Does opening the Fourth Gate give me the strength of an elite jonin? But if we're talking about someone at Kakashi's or Might Guy's level, then I definitely haven't reached it yet.
Then he would continue opening the later gates. It was not as if he could die!
"Fifth Gate—Gate of Limit, open!"
"Sixth Gate—Gate of View, open!"
Upon reaching the Sixth Gate, Xia Mu felt the damage grow worse and the pain in his body become even more unbearable. If his body had not been strong enough, he feared he would have been torn apart long ago. Even so, he still needed immense willpower to endure the agony, as though his body were being ripped apart.
Xia Mu did not waste time. Following the technique described in the scroll, he leaped into the air and threw out straight punches in a frenzy.
His straight punches rubbed against the air, and the resulting gusts seemed to transform into fiery spheres that blossomed in the sky like a peacock spreading its flaming tail. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
Of course, any enemy suffering this attack would only find it terrifying.
Right, Kisame Hoshigaki?
After performing Morning Peacock once, Xia Mu became somewhat addicted to it. He continued punching, intending to keep at it until he became proficient. He could not die anyway, and he had unlimited stamina and unlimited Chakra. As long as he could endure the pain, he could go wild as much as he pleased.
An hour later, Xia Mu deactivated the Eight Gates. It simply hurt too much.
Even though he was not actually injured, the pain remained. Smoke was rising from his body, and he truly could not endure it.
Looks like I'll have to double my training. I need to revise my future training plan, especially when it comes to enduring pain. I need special training for that. Otherwise, if I open the Seventh Gate in the future, I might faint from the pain.
After silently making that decision and resting for a while, Xia Mu chose to continue.
The Special Laboratory State was too precious to waste. Otherwise, he would not even be able to enjoy his meals.
Next, I'll familiarize myself with the earlier gates first. I need to make sure I can instantly open the later gates in the future, rather than opening them one by one. The windup would be too long that way. Not only could I miss an opportunity to attack, but an enemy could interrupt me.
Thus, for the next several hours, Xia Mu continuously opened and closed the gates.
From the First Gate to the Sixth Gate, he opened and closed them frantically until he was fully familiar with them.
By the time he could instantly open the Sixth Gate, only ten minutes remained before the Special Laboratory ended. A crazy idea arose in his mind.
"Double the gravity! Sixth Gate—Gate of View, open!"
Xia Mu looked as though a Saiyan had erupted with power. His skin was crimson, yet green energy flowed around his body. The increased gravity could not press him down at all.
"Raise the gravity again! Seventh Gate... should I open the Seventh Gate?! Raise the gravity again! Seventh Gate—Gate of Wonder, open!"
Buzz! Terrifying pain swept through his entire body, nearly making Xia Mu pass out. But he bit through his lip and forcibly endured it. Then, following the technique, he began compressing air around his straight fist, forcefully condensing the air around him into the shape of a tiger before throwing a punch.
"Daytime Tiger!"
Boom! It was as though the entire world had collapsed.
Xia Mu immediately fainted and was ejected from the training room, lying motionless on his bed with sweat pouring down his face.
When Xia Mu woke up, he saw Tenten anxiously wiping his sweat with a wet towel, while Shino stood silently beside her, concern written beneath his sunglasses.
"Xia Mu, you're awake? You really scared me to death!"
Tears streamed down Tenten's face as she threw herself into Xia Mu's arms. "Sob, sob! Do you know you were unconscious for an entire day? The doctor said it seemed like you fainted from pain, but there isn't even the slightest wound on your body. What exactly did you do?!"
Xia Mu gave an apologetic smile and reached out to stroke Tenten's hair. "Sorry for making you worry."
Shino added, "When you didn't come to school today, I thought you had trained all night and overslept, so I came to check on you at noon. My insects saw you sleeping, so I thought you were fine. When I came again after school in the afternoon and found you still hadn't woken up, I realized something was wrong. Fortunately, Tenten arrived in time to open the door, and we brought you to the hospital."
So that was what had happened!
Xia Mu looked around and realized that he really was in a hospital.
Before you continue
