Lin Ze stood by the bridge railing, looking at the lake with Amycus.

Two more mallard ducks swam across the lake, fighting for the crust of bread thrown by the child Muggle not far away.

Amycus raised his chin. "Look, ducks never ask why they are alive."

"You took the initiative to see me, so you didn't come specifically to tell me stories, right?" Lin Ze changed the subject.

Amycus leaned on the railing with a loose posture.

"Edgar isn't feeling right lately."

"How to say?"

"He came back from a meeting at Home Office a few days ago and sat alone in the study until midnight. When I saw him, he was looking through the old notes left by his father." Amycus's voice lowered.

"He asked me if I had ever heard of something called 'Veil'."

Lin Ze was startled. "Veil?"

"You know?" Amycus turned to look at him, his gray-white eyes reflecting the broken light on the lake.

"I've heard of it, but I don't know exactly what it is." Lin Ze pretended to be stupid.

Ministry of Magic Department of Mysteries In the middle of the Death Chamber room, there was a black Veil that was always fluttering. He only took a look at it when he passed by the door during induction training, and the Auror who led the team specifically told him, "Don't get close to that curtain."

It's just that he's not sure whether Amycus is talking about the same thing.

"Dyson mentioned it once in his notes, saying that the Muggle government received a piece of intelligence about 'Invisible Veil' in 1940, and the source was a German wizard who had lost his magic power."

"The information states that that thing can separate life and death, and is the ultimate creation of some ancient alchemy."

"German wizard? Someone from Grindelwald?"

"Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. Dyson didn't find the source at the time, so he just made a simple note in his notes."

"Are you sure Hargreaves means 'Veil'?" Lin Ze asked.

"The original words are 'Invisible Veil'," Amycus said, "Dyson's notes contain information provided by a German wizard. The man lost his magic power and was taken in by the Muggle government for a while, but later disappeared."

"When did it happen?"

"1944."

Lin Ze was silent for a while.

In 1944, when World War II was about to end, the entire Eurasian continent was in chaos. The Muggle's artillery tanks ruthlessly harvested those fresh lives. That period was the craziest and favorite time for the dark wizards. Many Dark Magic researches needed to be completed by sacrificing lives, and the large number of dead people on the Muggle battlefield just made it possible for them.

"Besides 'Invisible Veil', what else was written in Dyson's notes?"

"No, Dyson was busy helping the Muggle government deal with the messy abnormal events after the war, and didn't bother to go into details." Amycus paused.

"And he never mentioned it to me."

Amycus bent down and picked up a pebble from his feet, weighed it in his hand, and threw it sideways towards the lake.

The pebble bounced four times on the water, and finally landed between the two ducks, causing them to flap their wings and swim toward the shore.

"Edgar, I asked him what the Muggle government said about this, and he said, 'They want to know what that thing does'."

"Lin." Mia's voice suddenly came from the direction of the bridge.

She didn't come over, she just stood under the sycamore tree, raised her chin slightly, and gestured towards the entrance of the park.

Lin Ze turned around and looked.

Outside the iron gate of the park, a black car was parked on the side with the engine turned off and white smoke coming out of the tailpipe.

The car window was rolled down a crack, and there was a figure moving in the crack, and the face could not be seen clearly.

Lin Ze glanced at Amycus.

The expression on this vampire's face was very calm, even a bit like watching the fun. He had obviously noticed the black car a long time ago, but had no intention of mentioning it.

"Do you know that car?" Lin Ze asked.

"It should be someone from the Muggle government." Amycus said.

Mia came from under the sycamore tree.

"The license plate is a civilian number." She said slowly, word by word.

"The civilian number segment does not mean anything. It is easier for the Muggle government to put up a fake license plate than to drink water." Lin Ze said.

Lin Ze stared at the black car for a few seconds and made a decision.

"Withdraw first."

Mia didn't ask any questions. The two of them got off the bridge from the other end and walked deeper into the park along the lakeside path. Amycus didn't follow them and only waved to them on the bridge, like neighbors seeing off guests.

Lin Ze glanced back and saw that Amycus had put the hunting hat back on his head and walked slowly away in the opposite direction.

"Who do you think that car is staring at?" Mia asked.

"It's possible, but the high probability is that I'm staring at him." Lin Ze walked around an old lady walking her dog.

The two of them turned out of the side entrance of the park and walked north along a narrow alley. As they walked, Lin Ze told him what Amycus had told him.

Mia After listening, his steps slowed down for half a beat.

"Invisible Veil." She repeated the word.

"You know?"

"I've heard of it." There was a hint of caution in Mia's voice.

"I have an old notebook at home that mentions that before and after World War I, Europe several alchemists tried to use 'Invisible Veil' to recreate the legendary 'Gate of Life and Death', but they all failed in the end."

"What is Gate of Life and Death?"

"It is said that Merlin built a passage that allows the living to see the world of the dead. Muggle calls it 'Veil'."

Lin Ze suddenly remembered something and stopped.

"Department of Mysteries, Death Chamber."

Mia turned to look at him.

"Ministry of Magic There is a Death Chamber on the ground floor of Department of Mysteries. There is an arch inside, and a black Veil is hung on the arch. It is said that inside those Veils is the boundary between life and death." Lin Ze said slowly.

"I passed by it once during the induction training, and the team leader Auror said that the thing hadn't been moved for hundreds of years and no one knew where it came from."

"Let's go back to the ministry." He tilted his head towards Mia.

After returning to Ministry of Magic, Lin Ze went directly to Department of Mysteries.

Department of Mysteries's authority management is stricter than that of other Ministry of Magic departments. Usually only Unspeakable and a few senior officials can enter the core area.

Lin Ze I don't know if my permissions are sufficient.

When he handed his badge to Unspeakable, who was on duty, the other person asked him why he was here and then shook his head.

"Team Leader Lin, Death Chamber are not within the scope of your authorization." Unspeakable said hoarsely.

"Okay..." Lin Ze withdrew somewhat sarcastically. It seems that he still needs to obtain a higher level of authorization.
