"This machine..."
When he saw Tien Shinhan take an interest in the humanoid machine before them, Dr. Lychee looked a little conflicted.
But after a moment of thought, he continued his introduction.
"This machine is a secret weapon I invented, the Grudge Wave Amplification Device. I call it Hatchiyack!
If we Tuffles are unfortunate enough to be wiped out by the Saiyans' attacks in the end, Hatchiyack will be our hope for revenge!"
Dr. Lychee would never have told anyone else about Hatchiyack.
But Tien Shinhan and the others had just helped the Tuffles survive a disaster, preventing a great many Tuffle casualties. They could be considered great benefactors of the Tuffle race.
Although Tien Shinhan and the others had unusual origins, Dr. Lychee ultimately decided to be honest with such great benefactors.
"Grudge Wave Amplification Device? That sounds pretty scary!"
Hearing the device's name, Krillin couldn't help feeling that this clearly wasn't any kind of normal machine.
What normal machine had anything to do with something called Grudge Waves?
While Goku, Krillin, and the others curiously examined the still-unfinished Grudge Wave Amplification Device, information about Hatchiyack surfaced in Tien Shinhan's memory.
As its name suggested, the Grudge Wave Amplification Device was a revenge machine built to collect and amplify the resentment left by the Tuffles after their extermination.
The Hatchiyack born upon the Grudge Wave Amplification Device's full completion possessed strength surpassing even Super Saiyan 2.
For Tien Shinhan at his current level, the completed Hatchiyack could be considered immensely powerful.
But thanks to the appearance of Tien Shinhan and the others, this Saiyan attack had caused far fewer Tuffle casualties than it should have.
As a result, the Grudge Wave Amplification Device's collection of Grudge Waves was progressing much more slowly than it originally had.
It was still a long way from reaching the fully realized Hatchiyack state Dr. Lychee envisioned.
Tien Shinhan recalled the specifics about Hatchiyack.
Meanwhile, Dr. Lychee explained his reasons for inventing the Grudge Wave Amplification Device to Krillin and the others without holding anything back.
"So this machine is actually that terrifying an avenger?
The more Tuffles die or get hurt, the more Grudge Waves this machine collects, and the greater the power it can ultimately unleash.
It sounds a little scary, but logically speaking, that's a price those Saiyans ought to pay.
After all, as long as they don't choose to wipe you out, this revenge machine can never be completed.
Once this revenge machine is complete, that will mean the Saiyans chose to commit unforgivable atrocities. It would only be natural for them to suffer retaliation."
Krillin couldn't help clenching his fists.
After hearing Dr. Lychee's explanation, he understood the man's do-or-die resolve.
As for things like forgoing revenge, the Dragon Ball warriors didn't go in for that.
Even Goku himself thought it was only natural for the Saiyan race to be wiped out when they went around attacking other planets and slaughtering people.
"As Hatchiyack's inventor and creator, I really want to see how powerful it will be once complete.
But as a Tuffle, I also hope the day of Hatchiyack's completion never comes.
After all, even if the completed Hatchiyack exterminates the Saiyan race, it won't bring back any of our people who have already died!"
Dr. Lychee sighed and shook his head. His feelings toward this revenge machine, a creation he took pride in, were extraordinarily complicated.
He hoped it would be completed soon, yet also hoped it would never truly be completed.
"How does Hatchiyack collect Grudge Waves?
And after collecting them, how does it amplify them and convert them into power?"
Just as Goku, Krillin, Chiaotzu, and Launch, who had sneezed and returned to her blue-haired form, all fell silent.
Seemingly moved by Dr. Lychee's emotions, they were taken completely by surprise when Tien Shinhan asked a question about the principles behind the amplification machine's construction.
Wait!
Dude, you're a martial artist!
Suddenly asking about the principles behind a machine's invention, something only a scientist would be curious about, didn't quite fit the picture.
Dr. Lychee clearly hadn't expected Tien Shinhan to be interested in the principles behind Hatchiyack's construction either.
But as the Tuffles' chief scientist, he was clearly quite interested in answering questions about invention and construction.
Besides, for a mechanical invention like Hatchiyack, which was plainly his masterpiece yet was expected never to be completed.
Tien Shinhan's questions about its principles instead gave Dr. Lychee a sense of pride that the hard work he had poured into his invention was being respected.
Dr. Lychee had only told Tien Shinhan and the others so much earlier because he didn't want to conceal anything from his benefactors.
In truth, he still saw himself and Tien Shinhan's group as two different kinds of people.
He was a scientist, while Tien Shinhan and the others, though not necessarily all brawn and no brains, were martial artists and clearly didn't understand science.
Yet now Tien Shinhan had asked such an in-depth question about the underlying principles that Dr. Lychee immediately revised his opinion of him.
Two words!
An expert!
As Dr. Lychee silently praised Tien Shinhan's taste, discernment, and depth, the floodgates opened, and he began explaining the specific principles to him.
The general gist of those principles was as follows:
You have machinery spinning this fast entering Planet Plant.
Remember the principles I gave you. When little, it's the research person, and the principle behind researching this thing is underworld regime management. You know why there's resentment to make it run first position...
Of course, this general gist was the version translated inside Goku's, Krillin's, and the others' heads after they heard it.
After listening for just a little while, Goku and the others felt as though they were hearing some incomprehensible heavenly scripture. They couldn't understand the actual substance of Dr. Lychee's explanation at all and only felt that none of it connected.
What Tien Shinhan gathered from listening, however, was another version entirely.
The actual principle Dr. Lychee explained was that he had adjusted a special soul material found on Planet Plant. After adjustment, its wavelength precisely matched the Grudge Waves produced by Tuffles upon death, allowing it to collect them.
As for the amplification effect, that came from highly compressing the Grudge Waves through a special rotation pattern inside the machine before releasing them.
Dr. Lychee had named this special rotation pattern the Armstrong Lykist Rotation.
Tien Shinhan nodded at that.
He didn't have that special material, nor did he need to use it.
From the man's detailed explanation of the principles, Tien Shinhan realized that what was truly useful to him was that special method of rotational compression.
"I see. Dr. Lychee, could you let me operate the machine so I can carefully observe the exact operating path of the Armstrong Lykist Rotation?"
The Five Elements Pill Tien Shinhan had taken enhanced his comprehension in every respect.
As such, he quickly understood Dr. Lychee's explanation of the principles behind his invention's construction.
But the question Tien Shinhan now asked made Goku, Krillin, and the others widen their eyes in disbelief.
He could actually repeat such a complicated, obscure term as that Arm-something-garbage Rotation without getting a single word wrong?
Wait!
They were all martial artists listening to a scientist explain things, but Tien Shinhan actually understood it?
They were all martial artists, yet he alone could chat freely with a scientist. That made the rest of them look like idiots!
