Chang Yu's public image had always been gentle and refined, modest and courteous.
Then, imagining that restrained image with black leather gloves and a whip in hand, the contrast became instant.
The media present vied to question Chang Yu, while Gan Junda laughed smugly and enjoyed the show.
"I've never been in a relationship with Ke Yichun." These rumors really were getting more and more outrageous. Chang Yu had no idea how the gossip about him dating Ke Yichun had even spread.
But since Gan Junda was publicly smearing him, he couldn't blame Chang Yu for playing last night's recording.
"You're sure Yu Yan won't wake up, right? Chang Yu just visited my father-in-law's place today."
A distinctly older voice replied, "Don't worry. Didn't you watch her eat it yourself? If you're worried, you can keep watching Yu Yan while we do it."
Gan Junda began feeling guilty the moment he heard Yu Yan's name.
Wasn't this the conversation he'd had with the housekeeper last night? Where had a recording device come from in his house?
Only after listening did the reporters present realize what a huge scoop they'd stumbled upon.
"He's hooking up with the fifty-year-old housekeeper? What tastes."
"And he actually drugged his wife just to fool around right beside her. That's an eye-opener. I've never heard of that before."
"To think Gan Junda kept up that good-husband image, never spending a night away from home, when he was actually cuckolding his wife at home every day. Sure enough, if a man wants to whore around, he can do it anywhere."
The reporters surrounding Chang Yu instantly moved to Gan Junda, hemming him in so tightly that there was no way through.
"Stop right there!" Gan Junda realized the recording had come from beside Chang Yu.
He stretched out his arm with all his strength, trying to grab Chang Yu, but there were too many people. Chang Yu had already left the crowd.
"Where the hell did you record that?!"
Chang Yu ignored Gan Junda's furious questioning, leaving him only a carefree view of his retreating back.
Without his father-in-law's funding, the more products Gan Junda sold, the more money he lost.
Before the day was even over, Evergreen Company's competing products would be pulled from sale.
Yan Junye slipped out behind Chang Yu, angrily stomping on Gan Junda's foot before leaving, putting all his strength into it.
Fuck him for looking at me like that. Just thinking about it pisses me off.
How was he supposed to face his current relationship with Chang Yu from now on?
How was he supposed to view the relationship between being a dog and the way he interacted with people?
His mind hadn't contained any of that garbage before, but Gan Junda had forcibly shoved it into his head.
They returned to the company before noon.
When Qi Lezhi saw Chang Yu return, he wished he could hide his head under the desk.
He hadn't known Gan Junda was into such wild stuff. If he'd known, he never would have worked with him.
The more he worried, the more Chang Yu's footsteps seemed determined to turn his way.
"Ever studied law?" Chang Yu asked mildly.
"I've only read labor law." Qi Lezhi felt Chang Yu had already identified him as the mole.
Of course, the reason he hadn't left yet and was still sitting at his workstation was to take revenge on Chang Yu for humiliating him by making him catch the dog.
Unfortunately, he wasn't bold enough to dare kill someone.
"Do you know the sentence for leaking company secrets?" Chang Yu was already prepared to sue and didn't want to waste another word on him.
"Prepare yourself for the worst."
Qi Lezhi had never lost when it came to talking tough. "See you in court."
Without lingering any longer, Chang Yu turned and left. As the boss's dog, Yan Junye always walked through the company with his head held high.
His ears twitched twice. Hearing far more sensitive than a human's picked up the approaching footsteps of someone with ill intent.
He turned his head and saw a knife gleaming coldly.
-Holy shit, Qi Lezhi's actually holding a knife!
The moment Yan Junye saw it, he slapped Chang Yu with his paw, signaling for him to run.
He was a dog who had never done anything evil, and he had never provoked Qi Lezhi.
Qi Lezhi had no reason to kill him.
By comparison, Qi Lezhi probably hated Chang Yu more.
Yet he watched as Qi Lezhi lowered his body. The knife's target wasn't Chang Yu at all, but him, a dog who knew nothing.
Luckily, he reacted quickly, pushing off with his hind legs and running far away.
-Fuck, what sin did I commit? I haven't done anything to you, okay?!
Yan Junye's four paws could only help him get started. He still couldn't run fast for long.
He rose onto two legs and ran as though he were taking his thousand-meter fitness test back in the day.
As he ran, he cursed that lunatic Qi Lezhi in his mind.
But why was Chang Yu still standing there looking so calm?
Yan Junye stopped running and hid behind Chang Yu.
"I didn't expect you to be bold enough to try killing someone." A smile played on Chang Yu's lips, but Qi Lezhi kept feeling there was a knife hidden in it.
"I'm not killing a person. I'm killing a dog." Qi Lezhi certainly didn't dare agree with Chang Yu's claim.
Killing a person was illegal; killing a dog wasn't. He'd weighed that up long ago.
"Is that so?" Rather than retreating, Chang Yu stepped forward, rolling up his shirt sleeves to make it easier to fight. "Unfortunately, now you've turned it into trying to kill a person."
As soon as he finished speaking, Chang Yu took advantage of his opponent's stunned moment and kicked the knife in Qi Lezhi's hand.
Although he had never learned self-defense or martial arts, he had never neglected his workouts.
More importantly, he dared to gamble that someone as cowardly as Qi Lezhi wouldn't dare stab a person.
Someone at the company had already called the police. When they arrived, Chang Yu accused Qi Lezhi without a change in expression or a flutter of his heartbeat. "He tried to kill me."
Qi Lezhi trembled with fear at the sight of the police. He shook his head shakily. "I didn't. I just wanted to warn that dog."
"I'm the one who fought him." Chang Yu was an expert at steering a conversation. "I was going to fire him, and he was so furious that he wanted to kill me. That's his motive."
"My dog, on the other hand, sleeps at the company every day and has never provoked anyone. He doesn't have a sufficient motive to kill the dog."
Qi Lezhi: "..." Before he could work out how to refute that, the police had already taken him to their car.
As far as Yan Junye was concerned, this was just Chang Yu's usual performance. He'd spouted a whole load of nonsense at him before, too.
With Qi Lezhi's matter settled, lunchtime soon arrived.
Yan Junye was no longer satisfied with eating from a bowl on the floor.
He jumped onto a chair and patted the table with his paw, signaling for Chang Yu to put his food on the table.
He wanted to eat with the same status as a person, too!
Chang Yu put lunch on the table, more or less able to guess why Xiaotu wanted this.
But he didn't point it out.
Watching Xiaotu wolf down his food, Chang Yu began to worry.
If things continued like this, what would he do if Xiaotu refused to wear a collar and muzzle when they went out?
A collar and muzzle were essential for responsible dog walking.
Yan Junye had no idea what Chang Yu was thinking.
After finishing his meal, he stopped walking on all fours, too. Raising his front legs, he walked around to the side away from Chang Yu and sprawled straight out on the table for his midday nap.
He wasn't going to sleep on the carpet anymore.
After finishing his meal, Chang Yu resignedly cleared everything away, then draped his jacket over Xiaotu. "Don't catch a chill. Go to sleep."
He would raise him like a person from now on. Xiaotu didn't want to be a dog anymore.
Yan Junye gave a haughty little huff, hugged the jacket with his paws, and settled down for his nap.
