Background / History

Childhood as Wu Zhou

Wu Zhou’s mother, an imperial consort, died giving birth to him. His father showed him little affection, and palace servants bullied and neglected him. At approximately eight or nine years old, he was left in a freezing palace without charcoal and with only a thin quilt. At that point, he had neither awakened his talent nor cultivated internal energy 25.

His mother’s diary introduced him to Chu Ci’s name before they met. He came to yearn for Chu Ci’s companionship, although he later distinguished that early longing from fully developed romantic love 112.

Chu Ci found him in the palace, apologized for arriving late, and promised that no one would bully him again. When Wu Zhou feared being abandoned, Chu Ci obtained the emperor’s permission to take him to the battlefield. Initially frightened of the soldiers, Wu Zhou clung to Chu Ci’s clothes; the military camp eventually became a place where he was treated as one of their own 26 90 161.

Love, Loss, and Resurrection

Wu Zhou became Chu Ci’s disciple and fell in love with him, while Chu Ci regarded him with a senior’s affection for a junior. He was already jealous of Chu Ci’s admirers in the interstellar era, but still honored a promise to deliver his younger sister’s love letter because Chu Ci had taught him to keep his word 107 127.

Chu Ci’s death devastated him. In his efforts to save Chu Ci, Wu Zhou studied forbidden books and formations, killed the ruler, offered his blood, and sacrificed his own life. His blood within the Resurrection Array also caused Chu Ci to acquire Mind Reading 127 130 143.

In the modern world, Wu Zhou discovered that the power of faith—people’s affection, adoration, and admiration—could restore bodies and nourish souls. He entered entertainment under the stage name Ye Qingzhou because celebrity offered the best means of gathering that power. He shared it with Chu Ci until Chu Ci’s soul recovered, and also saved Lele’s remaining fragments during the revival 126.

Rise in Entertainment

Ye Qingzhou broke through with a historical detective drama. His followers exceeded ten million within a few months, and by his third year after debut he was firmly established as a top star. His work covered suspense, criminal investigation, fantasy, historical, and contemporary productions 1 91.

He won a Best Actor award at twenty and later founded CH. His manager initially knew only that the company’s name referred to someone important to him; Chu Ci’s appearance eventually made the connection clear 110 130.

Appearance

  • Face and eyes: Exceptionally handsome, with distinctive peach-blossom eyes and shallow dimples when he smiles. His eyes and dimples help Chu Ci and Lele recognize similarities between him and Wu Zhou 17 26 59.
  • Hair and complexion: Short black hair and fair, cool-toned skin. His cheeks, neck, and ears flush conspicuously when he is embarrassed 12 102 143.
  • Build and hands: Slender and upright, with long fingers and well-defined joints 79 143.
  • Scent: A subtle, fresh greenery fragrance with a faint floral note 10.
  • Notable disguise: A long black Lolita dress, long black hair, a mask, and a pearl necklace during the second episode of Let’s Fall in Love 70 73 79.

Personality

Ye Qingzhou’s public image is cool, distant, and difficult to approach. He dislikes unnecessary socializing, avoids celebrity networking, and bluntly describes other people as “noisy.” His professional convictions are equally firm: during his debut year, he argued with a prominent director over a character’s interpretation until the director accepted his approach 9 50 91.

Around Chu Ci, he is affectionate, easily flustered, and unusually willing to be coaxed. He smiles deliberately because Chu Ci once praised his smile, eagerly seeks opportunities for closeness, and values even small signs of reciprocation. After they marry, this enthusiasm extends to matching clothes, household items, usernames, and profile pictures 102 104 136.

His devotion also has possessive and calculating aspects. He conceals his identity to avoid being confined to the role of Chu Ci’s junior, feigns illness to interrupt a potential social connection, and insists that anyone who harms his partner should pay a severe price. He recognizes this selfishness and apologizes for hiding the truth 49 107 127 128.

Childhood abuse taught him to endure distress silently and regard crying as weakness. Despite his confidence in public, the possibility of Chu Ci leaving him provokes intense fear. Chu Ci’s reassurance that he is not a monster, together with supportive fan messages, finally allows him to cry from happiness rather than grief 128 142 143.
