Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Creation and innate cultivation potential | 15 | Humans are born capable of cultivation. Mu Chen adopts a human body, retaining his peak Primordial Unity True Immortal strength; this is his individual realm, not humanity’s general level. |
| Largely uncultivated population | 17 20 | Most humans lack cultivation knowledge and cannot defend themselves against demons. The race has not developed an established cultivation method. |
| Sage-supported rise | 31 | Following the witches’ and demons’ decline, the Sages support humanity’s ascent and use conflict with surviving demons to strengthen its fighting ability. |
| Documented Heavenly Immortal representative | 32 | Xuandu reaches Mu Chen with a Heavenly Immortal cultivation base, exceptional among contemporary human tribes. Humanity still lacks a stable, effective cultivation system. |
| Acquisition of the Great Way of the Golden Elixir | 33 34 | Mu Chen gives Xuandu humanity’s orthodox cultivation method. Although he presents it as incomplete and requiring Laozi’s revision, Laozi finds no flaws in it. |
History
Creation
Before humanity existed, Mu Chen postponed choosing a physical race until Nuwa created humans. He preferred the human option because his system specified that it could evade the Heavenly Dao’s scrutiny, despite humans’ weaker bodies compared with dragons, phoenixes, and qilin 5 10.
Nuwa later sought Mu Chen’s advice about the divine soil Hongjun had instructed her to collect. His suggestion that soil could be molded into all things helped her understand her path. Afterward, Nuwa created the Human Race, declaring that she wished it to prosper and safeguard lasting peace. The achievement brought her Sagehood 14 15.
Survival During Witch-Demon Supremacy
Humanity multiplied but remained insignificant beside the Witch and Demon Races. Demons treated humans as food, while most humans lacked the cultivation needed to resist them. As the six Sages spread their teachings, legends of immortals inspired people to venture overseas in search of them 16 17.
Mu Chen rescued one such ship from flood dragons serving Di Jun. Rather than establish a religion and lead humanity into war, he advised the survivors to compensate for their weaknesses with their strengths, divide heaven and earth’s changes into twenty-four periods, and draw upon their essence. He then returned to seclusion 17 18.
The Ten Golden Crows’ descent brought another disaster: their Sun True Fire scorched the land and killed an unspecified number of humans. Mu Chen intervened against Yin You, punishing him rather than killing the Golden Crows and provoking open conflict with the Demon Race 28.
Rise After the Great Catastrophe
Before the final Witch-Demon battle, Mu Chen preserved Hou Yi’s and Kuafu’s remaining spiritual consciousness. With their agreement, he sent their remnant souls to reincarnate as humans, regarding their talents as something humanity needed 29 30.
The catastrophe destroyed the witches’ and demons’ ability to compete for supremacy. The Sages then supported humanity’s rise while deliberately leaving surviving demons as enemies against which humans could develop their fighting strength 31.
This political ascent did not immediately solve humanity’s cultivation problems. Xuandu sought Mu Chen’s help because humans were still being slaughtered and lacked a reliable path to the Great Dao. Mu Chen supplied the Great Way of the Golden Elixir, spiritual pills, medicines, and weapons. A century later, Xuandu became Laozi’s eldest disciple and brought the method to him 32 33.
Racial Traits & Cultivation
Innate Cultivation Aptitude
- Humans are described as manifestations of the Heavenly Dao’s will, born capable of cultivating 15.
- Unlike demons that must labor to attain humanoid form, humans possess favorable natural gifts from birth 15.
- After obtaining his human body, Mu Chen finds his connection to heaven and earth vastly stronger than it had been as a Rootless Body 15.
Physical Limitations
- Ordinary human bodies are considerably weaker than those of dragons, phoenixes, and qilin 5.
- Human lifespans are extremely short compared with those of other Primordial World beings 15.
- Innate potential does not provide automatic combat strength: early humans generally lack cultivation knowledge and are vulnerable to predation 17.
Great Way of the Golden Elixir
- The system identifies it as the Human Race’s orthodox cultivation method 27.
- Mu Chen obtains it specifically to help humans grow stronger, rather than for his own cultivation 27.
- Laozi regards providing a cultivation path for the entire mortal population as a difficult problem; the method addresses humanity’s need for a complete system 33.
- Laozi’s examination reveals no flaws, despite Mu Chen’s claim that it requires refinement 34.
Religion & Sects
| Sect | Connection to Humanity |
|---|---|
| Human Sect | Founded by Laozi while walking among humans. Laozi later accepts Xuandu as his eldest disciple and regards safeguarding humanity’s path as his task 15 33. |
| Mu God Sect | Established by humans who revere Mu Chen as “Mu God.” Its followers offer incense to him, and some traditions call him humanity’s first immortal to comprehend the Great Dao. Mu Chen does not personally establish the sect 17 18 32. |
The Human Sect, Mu God Sect, Chan Sect, and Jie Sect spread their teachings after the Great Witch-Demon Catastrophe 34.
Relationships
- Nuwa — Creator of humanity. The Human Race forms the foundation of her Great Dao; she recognizes that obstructing its rise could damage that foundation and her cultivation 15 30.
- Mu Chen — A human cultivator and hidden benefactor. He rescues humans and supplies cultivation resources but repeatedly refuses to lead the race openly 17 18 27 33.
- Xuandu — Humanity’s representative in seeking cultivation guidance. His visit to Mu Chen secures the Golden Elixir method and material aid 32 33.
- Laozi — Founder of the Human Sect and Xuandu’s master. He examines the method Mu Chen provides and takes responsibility for safeguarding humanity’s cultivation path 33 34.
- Witch Race — Mu Chen anticipates a future alliance with humanity. Hou Yi and Kuafu are subsequently sent to reincarnate into the Human Race 16 29 30.
- Demon Race — Predators and later sworn enemies. Their surviving remnants become humanity’s principal earthly opponents after the catastrophe 17 31.
- The Sages — Support humanity’s ascent while competing for its fortune and the foundations of their teachings 26 27 31.
Future Significance
- Mu Chen foresees humanity becoming central to the Investiture of the Gods Great Tribulation. Because the conflict concerns the foundations of the Sages’ Great Dao, he expects humanity’s prominence to draw increasingly dangerous struggles between Sages 35.
- Hongjun’s saying, “The Dao is not imparted to nonhumans,” circulates after the Witch-Demon Catastrophe. Mu Chen interprets it as an instruction for the six Sages to advance humanity’s rise 31.
