"Boss, the audio blocking will be detected by the system in two minutes." Sassy's voice promptly reminded.
Peter calmed down. "Connors, I need your help."
Connors raised his red eyes. "You said, as long as I can do it."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. will definitely ask you for the Lizard Man formula next, right?"
Connors shook his head. "Not yet."
"If they ask, give them false data."
Connors was shocked. "Why?"
"Because the inside of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been hollowed out." Peter said bluntly, "An evil organization that is much older and more terrifying than Roxxon has long infiltrated here. If they get this formula, not only one or two people will die, but millions of people may die."
Connors took a breath. "Who?"
"Hydra."
Hearing this name, Connors's pupils shrank instantly, obviously he had heard of the evil name of this organization.
"Since you know they are still active, why don't you just eliminate them?"
"Things are very complicated." Peter sighed.
The truth is that cleaning up Hydra is not his script, it is Captain America's mission. No matter how messed up the world's trajectory is by him, the corrective power of the plot is still secretly operating.
"I understand." Connors nodded heavily, "I will take the secret to my grave... but I also have a request."
"You said."
"Billy... help me say sorry to him." Connors's voice was begging, "Tell him that dad is not the monster on the news... please."
"Wrap it around me."
Peter turned and walked out of the corridor. Behind him, Connors raised the corners of his lips slightly, and the deathly aura and despair that had enveloped him faintly dispersed.
Watching the agents escorting Connors into the transport vehicle, Peter stood behind the warehouse door, watching the vehicle drive away. Although he knew it was a bit naive, he still hoped that Hydra would not reach out to this poor man for the time being.
Back in the temporary war room, Jessica was sending the previous scientist away. S.H.I.E.L.D. brought out the "top secret" and "need-to-know" clauses within S.H.I.E.L.D..
Seeing Peter walking over, she pressed her temples tiredly. "It's really frustrating."
"Who says it isn't?" Peter saw the interrogator and the scientist entering the elevator together, which meant that they were the only two left in the entire safe house.
He raised his hand and took off the Spider helmet, breathed a long sigh of relief, and straightened his flattened hair. "Anyway, this shit is finally over."
"Yeah... it's over." Jessica lowered his head, looking a little sad.
Peter noticed her depression, approached and asked, "What's wrong?"
"The mission is over, and it's time for me to leave." Jessica said, "I was given one hour to clean up the scene and evacuate the safe house, which also gave me time to say goodbye to you."
"When can we meet again?"
"I don't know either. It depends on the next task arrangement."
Both of them fell silent. The reunion came in a hurry, and so did the separation. They returned to the lounge and said their goodbyes privately.
Half an hour later, Jessica said softly, "I will miss you."
"Me too." Peter said, "It's a pity that we haven't even had a serious date."
"There's still half an hour left, how about we make do with it?"
Peter took out his phone and clicked on a video of Neil deGrasse Tyson explaining black holes.
"I was joking just now." Jessica looked at him.
"I'm not kidding. You don't like it?"
She smiled, "No, that's good."
The two leaned together to watch the video. The moment of silence made the farewell less painful.
Afterwards, they packed up. Jessica didn't have much luggage, so this time was reserved for her to say goodbye.
The exit above the warehouse opened, and Jessica boarded the small fighter plane and waved to Peter in the cockpit. Peter also raised his hand in response until the fighter plane flew away and the skylight closed again.
He was the only one left in the safe house.
Peter picked up the helmet and looked at the white visor. There is one more thing to do tonight.
For example, tell a little boy that his father is not a monster.
Peter Put on the helmet and slide quietly into the night.
Under Sassy's navigation, he quickly found Dr. Connors's home. Coincidentally, it was only a few blocks away from the block where Peter lived. He landed lightly on the treetop next to the house, and his keen hearing immediately caught the cry coming from the house.
The cry came from a room on the second floor, and it sounded like a child. Peter was clinging to the window quietly like a big gecko. Looking through the gap in the curtains, the room was filled with various toys, and a trembling little body was huddled under the quilt.
Peter skillfully picked the window lock, turned over and slipped in.
Although the movement was very gentle, the cold wind from the opening of the window still alarmed the child on the bed. The little boy suddenly opened the quilt and sat up, looking at the red and blue figure standing in the room with tearful eyes, and took a breath. "Spider...Spider-Man?!"
"Hey... you are Billy, right?" Peter closed the window smoothly.
"You... how do you know my name?" Billy was wearing a blue and white striped pajamas, with messy blond hair and big eyes red from crying.
Peter sighed, walked to the bed and sat down. "Your father asked me to come. He wanted me to talk to you."
"Have you met my dad?!" Billy's eyes burst out with strong anticipation, "Where is he? Is he okay? When will he come home?"
"He is in a very safe place now, Billy... As for when he can go home, I can't say yet."
"That's it..." Billy, whose expectations were shattered, lowered his head, his small shoulders undulating violently, and his young voice was mixed with grievance and anger, "I knew... after all, he did that kind of thing..."
"What do you think he did?" Peter asked softly.
"He killed someone!" Billy shouted, "It was shown on TV!"
"No, he didn't." Peter touched his head, "It's not what you think."
"But mom said the green monster in the news was dad! He hurt someone!"
"Yes, that monster did hurt people, but he is not your father." Peter patiently explained, "Do you know why your father conducted that experiment? Because he wanted to help those who were injured and wanted everyone to no longer suffer from the pain of disability. It was just a practical matter. There was an error in the detection, which turned him into that. I stopped him, not because I hated him, but because I knew that the monster was not the real Curt·Connors. Your father is a hero, and I went to save him."
