Under the control of Red, everyone began to divide the work in an orderly manner. The strongest leader Giant Ghoul has been crowned, and the remaining two are firmly bound. It was only a matter of time before Giant Ghoul was killed. The warlocks took turns to attack, accurately throwing small-consuming spells at the remaining scattered Ghoul. Fireballs, ice cones and shock waves came one after another, clearing away the last threats one by one.
Yavi had just taken a breath, raised his sword and was about to walk towards Giant Ghoul, which was sealed by the ice coffin, when a purple figure swept past him like a rushing wind. A faint scent of gooseberries penetrated the tip of his nose, and there was no need to identify the identity of the visitor.
Yennefer.
She held Yavi's arm, and immediately put her fingertips on his wrist. Her purple eyes quickly scanned the shocking wounds all over his body. She frowned, and a light blue magic light immediately condensed in her palm - that was the flow of Water of Healing's runes, a magic she was proficient in that could penetrate flesh and blood and heal injuries.
However, as soon as she raised her hand, she was gently held down by Yavi.
"Don't waste your magic power, Ye." Yavi's voice was hoarse, but he managed a smile, "I can still hold on."
Yennefer's hand was hanging in the air, his lips moved slightly, but he swallowed back the blame that originally came to his mouth.
She looked at Yavi's face covered in blood and scars, and then looked at the mountain of corpses and sea of fire behind her - the Ghoul group that had just rushed towards the camp crazily.
She knew better than anyone else that if Yavi hadn't risked his life to stand in the front line, once these monsters broke through the defense line and poured into the temporary camp, there would be countless casualties waiting for them, and even the warlocks would not be spared. His choice was not wrong.
"You... you are a pushy guy." Yennefer's voice contained a suppressed cry, her eyes were red, but she did not let the tears fall after all. She just put Yavi's arm on her shoulders and carefully supported his shaky body.
Yavi raised his hand and gently touched Yennefer's scattered long black hair. The gentle movement of his fingertips across her hair was completely different from the killing he had just done. "I'm fine, I'm just a little tired."
Yennefer nodded and said nothing more. He just supported him more steadily and walked step by step towards the temporary camp. When passing the city, Yavi turned his head and raised his chin at Red, who was directing the aftermath. "Next, I leave it to you."
Red turned around, the fire flickered on his resolute face, and his eyes reflected the flame that had not yet been extinguished, but also ignited with a heavy solemnity. He nodded heavily. "Don't worry Yavi, leave the rest to us. Thanks to you today, otherwise these two crises, we will inevitably have attrition." He paused, and his tone became more determined, "When I go back, I will report the truth to the college."
Yavi nodded slightly. "Okay, then I'll take a rest first."
With the support of Yennefer, Yavi returned to the campfire. The remaining flames swayed with orange-red light, warm but weak. Yennefer let him lie down, took out a thick blanket from his bag, and carefully wrapped him tightly, as if he was wrapping some fragile treasure.
"Have a good rest." She whispered, her fingers resting on his forehead for a moment.
Yavi grabbed her wrist. "Are you going to help deal with those two Giant Ghoul?"
Yennefer did not deny it, but gently pushed his hand away. "Don't worry, the ice coffin can last for a while, Red they can handle it." She stood up, her purple eyes flashing with complicated emotions in the firelight.
"Be careful." Yavi said.
Yennefer bent down and summoned up the courage to press a very light and fast kiss on his forehead. The warmth of her lips was fleeting. Before Yavi could react, she turned around and ran away, and her purple figure quickly merged into the camp where the night and firelight intertwined.
Yavi looked at the direction she was leaving, the corners of his mouth raised slightly, and soon returned to a tight straight line.
He closed his eyes, but Witcher Senses kept them open - the dying roars of the two Giant Ghouls, the screams as the remaining Ghouls were wiped out one by one, the hum of the magicians casting spells, the knocking of the villagers reinforcing the fence... all the sounds were clearly transmitted to his ears.
He said he would leave it to them, but he couldn't let it go in his heart. It wasn't until the last neigh belonging to Ghoul completely disappeared from his senses, and even the signs of life of the two Giant Ghoul fell silent, that Yavi's tight shoulders and neck finally relaxed. Exhaustion came like a tide, dragging him into a deep sleep little by little.
The next morning, the morning light filtered in through the gaps in the simple wooden walls of the camp. The air was filled with the burnt odor left after the burning smell of blood, but it was also mixed with a hint of the long-lost warm aroma of food.
After working hard all night, the warlocks and villagers all looked gray and their steps were sluggish.
Some people were taking a nap against the wooden wall, some were mechanically turning over the burning pile of corpses, and more people just sat silently, with a dull and dazed look in their eyes as if they were surviving a disaster.
But under this fatigue, a subtle sense of joy spread silently among the crowd - they survived, and no one was swallowed by the two terrifying waves of Ghoul last night. This is already the best result.
Yavi was awakened by the aroma of food. The smell was rich, warm, and mellow with the blend of herbs and meat fat. He slowly opened his eyes, with the haze of sleep still remaining in his blue pupils. The bonfire had been rekindled, and the flames were licking the iron pot hanging above, making a gurgling sound.
Yennefer was squatting next to him, holding two bowls of steaming soup in her hands. She looked like she had not slept all night, her eyes were lightly bruised, and her long black hair was a little messy, but her purple eyes were smiling. When she watched him wake up, she was much softer than last night.
"Are you awake?" She passed the bowl forward, "Drink something. Don't expect it to taste good - that's all the stock in the camp."
Yavi sat up and took the soup bowl. The walls of the bowl were boiling hot, and there were a few unknown vegetable leaves and fine minced meat floating on the surface of the soup. He lowered his head and took a sip. It was very salty and had a burnt undertone, but at this moment, it was the most soothing thing for the tired body and mind.
"Last night..." Yavi said.
"It's all solved." Yennefer interrupted him, and he took a sip from the bowl, frowning slightly because of the taste, "The two Giant Ghoul were cleared out before dawn, and the remaining Ghoul were basically cleared away. Red has already led people to strengthen the peripheral defense, and they will organize another patrol after dawn."
Yavi nodded and glanced across the camp - it was devastated, but the people were still there, the campfire was still there, and the smoke of living fireworks was still there.
Yennefer turned her head to look at him, and the sunlight fell on her face through the morning mist, softening her usually sharp lines. She said nothing more, just drank the soup quietly, her knees gently leaning against Yavi's knees.
Yavi lowered his head and continued to drink the soup. The heat in the bowl blurred his vision, and also blurred all the blood and roars last night. He suddenly felt that this bowl of soup, which did not taste very good, suddenly became acceptable.
