"All right, Han Yi, don't say anything yet. Su Cimu, tell me exactly what happened."
The teacher had heard of Su Cimu long before this. Apparently, he was a young master who had grown up spoiled by his family. He had a fiery temper but never went looking for trouble. Most importantly, his grades were excellent!
"Han Yi suddenly started attacking me, accusing me of bribing a teacher to get the exam paper in advance so I could get full marks. He said a lot of nasty things. I only hit him because I couldn't take it anymore, and he was the one who grabbed me and wouldn't let go first."
Su Cimu simply gave an honest account of their argument. After hearing it, the teacher's expression darkened.
"Han Yi, you're questioning the legitimacy of Su Cimu's exam results. Do you have any evidence? If not, you're slandering both a teacher and a fellow student."
The teacher looked at Han Yi sternly. What Han Yi had done went beyond merely questioning a fellow student's character; he was also casting doubt on the integrity of University A's faculty. If word got out, it would seriously damage the university's century-old reputation.
"I... Sir, Su Cimu is just a spoiled rich kid. How could he possibly get such good grades? Even if he didn't get the questions in advance, he must have cheated somehow."
Han Yi remained stubborn, insisting that Su Cimu's exam results were fraudulent.
The teacher frowned at this, then turned to Su Cimu.
"Su Cimu, do you have anything to say in response to Han Yi's accusations?"
"I didn't cheat, and my conscience is clear. As for my performance in class, you can ask any teacher or professor who's taught me. I'm sure they'll give you an accurate answer."
Su Cimu had no desire to explain himself. The innocent remained innocent. Proving himself just because Han Yi questioned him would be truly ridiculous.
"All right. I believe you didn't cheat. Regarding Han Yi's challenge to Su Cimu's results, I'll report it to the college and request an investigation report to clear Su Cimu's name."
After hearing Su Cimu's response, the teacher already had an answer in mind and said as much.
"Thank you, sir."
"You're welcome. But we can't just let this fight slide. We'll deal with it once your parents arrive."
Su Cimu sighed inwardly. Who knew what Shen Yannian would have to say to him when he arrived?
But before Shen Yannian got there, Han Yi's mother arrived at the teacher's office.
"Who hit my son? Who was it?!"
After receiving the teacher's call telling her that Han Yi had fought with a classmate, his mother had rushed straight to the university.
She had raised Han Yi alone since he was little and cherished him like the apple of her eye. So when she heard he had been in a fight, her first reaction was that someone had bullied her son.
"Mom-"
Seeing his mother arrive, Han Yi called out to her at once, as though he had spotted his savior.
"Quick, quick, let me have a good look at you. Are you hurt? Which little bastard bullied you? Tell me. I'll stand up for you!"
"Mom, it was him! Not only did he cheat on the exam and take my scholarship spot, he hit me too!"
Han Yi seized the chance to complain to his mother.
The teacher's brows knitted tightly when Han Yi blamed everything on Su Cimu without a word of explanation.
"Mrs. Han, please calm down. Han Yi wasn't entirely blameless in this. He was the one who provoked his classmate first."
The teacher looked at Han Yi's mother helplessly, but she clearly wasn't someone who would listen to reason.
"What do you mean, my son was at fault too? My Han Yi has been a good student since he was little. He's never caused trouble, and he wins a scholarship every year. I don't believe he would provoke anyone. Besides, my son said this person cheated on the exam and took his scholarship spot. I demand that the university investigate this thoroughly and give my son justice!"
Han Yi's mother had already been terribly distressed over him. Now that she had heard the other student had taken his scholarship spot, she grew even more indignant and insisted that the teacher give her an answer.
Having witnessed the entire exchange, Su Cimu snorted. All he could say was, "Like mother, like son." The two of them were exactly alike.
"What are you snorting at? You're the one who bullied my son, aren't you? I'm telling you, if anything happens to him, I'll sue you until you're bankrupt!"
"Oh? I'd like to see just how you plan to bankrupt me."
At those words, Su Cimu whipped around and saw Shen Yannian stride inside and come to his side.
"Shen Yannian, you're here..."
The moment Shen Yannian came in, he saw the marks on Su Cimu's face. It felt as though a hole had been gouged in his heart.
"Sweetheart, did he give you those injuries?"
Shen Yannian pointed at Han Yi as he asked Su Cimu.
"Yes..."
"You're this brat's guardian, are you? Perfect timing. He hit my son, and I demand compensation! Otherwise, this isn't over!"
"Han Yi's mother, please calm down. As I said, both sides were at fault. Everyone, sit down and talk this through. Don't blow this out of proportion!"
The teacher was thoroughly disgusted by Han Yi's mother's behavior too, but the priority was to resolve this matter properly. Otherwise, she wouldn't have bothered with her at all.
"Hmph. There's nothing to discuss. You have to pay!"
Han Yi's mother was adamant. Han Yi stood beside her, looking smug. With his mother backing him up, he wasn't afraid of Su Cimu at all.
"Oh? Is that so? As it happens, I don't want to settle with someone who hurt my sweetheart either. Let's call the police. Once they arrive, they can take both of them for an injury assessment. I'll pay whatever medical expenses I owe. But as for your son injuring my fiancé, we won't accept any compensation. I want him in prison."
Shen Yannian sneered. It had been a long time since he had seen anyone so heedless of the consequences. Interesting.
"What do you mean, prison?!"
The moment Han Yi's mother heard Shen Yannian say he wanted her son imprisoned, she exploded.
A trace of panic crossed Han Yi's face too. Not knowing just who Shen Yannian was, he couldn't help worrying about how things would turn out.
The teacher had a splitting headache now too.
"Su Cimu's guardian, please don't get upset yet. Sit down first, and I'll explain what happened. As for whether to mediate, that will depend on what the two students want."
The teacher first calmed both Shen Yannian and Han Yi's mother down, then recounted what she had learned.
After hearing it, Shen Yannian felt nothing but anger. His sweetheart had done so well on the exam. What gave any random nobody the right to question him? And he had even dared to lay a hand on his sweetheart?!
After hearing what had happened, however, Han Yi's mother still didn't think her son had done anything wrong. After all, a scholarship spot was at stake. The difference between first and second place was tens of thousands of yuan-not a small sum!
"Ma'am, my Han Yi was only reasonably questioning his exam results. There's nothing wrong with that. The university should investigate properly, so certain people don't take our Han Yi's first-place scholarship spot!"
