Yad had always carried a sense of crisis.
That sense of crisis stemmed from his anxiety over having no magic. Especially after he had a wife and child, his anxiety over his own helplessness reached its peak. As a Squib who had grown up in the Magic World, he had seen all manner of powerful, unimaginable magic. It made him feel that without magic, he would be unable to protect his family.
Thus, Yad did everything he could to make himself stronger. In his spare time, he trained like mad and learned fighting techniques, all so he could protect his family when it mattered!
That punch had landed squarely on Borel's face. The sudden attack knocked Borel straight to the ground, leaving him completely dazed.
When Borel came to his senses, the humiliation of being knocked down turned into rage and swiftly filled his chest. Without caring about anything else, he reached for the Wand at his waist. But before he could aim it, Yad immediately stepped forward and kicked Borel's wrist, sending the Wand flying from his hand. At the same time, he threw another punch into Borel's stomach.
With a cry of pain, Borel curled up like a boiled shrimp. The pain blanked out his mind, and since he was not particularly skilled in Wandless Magic or Nonverbal Magic to begin with, he could not cast a single spell.
Watching her usually domineering father get pinned down and beaten by a Squib, Millicent stared blankly, questioning her entire life.
However, she quickly snapped out of it, immediately drew her Wand, pointed it at Yad, and began to chant.
"Thorn Entangl—"
Before she could finish most of the incantation, a hand suddenly covered Millicent's mouth, stopping her from casting a spell on Yad. At the same time, a punch struck her in the stomach, sending Millicent to the ground like her father, where she howled in agony.
Sean snatched Millicent's Wand away, then tugged his father. The two of them immediately retreated.
Seeing Yad back away, the bruised and battered Borel hurriedly climbed to his feet, grabbed the Wand that had fallen nearby, and prepared to cast a spell on Yad.
But at that moment, two figures appeared beside Borel and Millicent in quick succession, stopping them from casting.
"Mr. Bulstrode, casting spells on someone without magic here is punishable by imprisonment in Azkaban under Ministry of Magic law. Besides, I doubt your father, Old Boster, would allow you to cast spells on someone without magic here, would he?"
The Auror's words calmed Borel down somewhat.
He now understood that if he truly used magic on Yad, his father's punishment would be inevitable. Even if his father used the Bulstrode family's influence to keep him out of Azkaban, the punishment he would receive from the family would not be much more pleasant than going to Azkaban.
Having thought it through, even though Borel wanted to kill Yad and Sean ten times over, he had no choice but to put away his Wand. Without another word, he left Florin Cold Drinks Shop with Millicent, who looked like she wanted to say something.
Watching Borel and Millicent leave, Sean knew this was not over. But he did not care. At this stage, as long as Borel did not want to go to Azkaban, he could not possibly make a move against Sean's parents or Sean himself at Hogwarts. If he wanted to act, he would have to wait until Sean graduated from Hogwarts. By then, Sean was confident he would be fully capable of protecting himself.
After Borel and Millicent left, the two Aurors came over to Yad's family and said, "You three, please abide by Magical World law while in Diagon Alley. We will not disturb you any further."
With that, the two Aurors left.
After walking out of Florin Cold Drinks Shop, the younger of the two Aurors asked the older one in confusion, "Corey, why didn't we do the Bulstrode family heir a favor just now? Could we run into trouble for offending him like this?"
"Who do you think those three were? You want to curry favor in an internal Bulstrode family matter, but they might not accept it. At this stage, Old Boster is still the one in charge of the Bulstrode family. If you want to do anyone a favor, do it for Old Boster. Understand?"
"An internal Bulstrode family matter, this..."
In a flash, the young Auror thought of some gossip he had recently heard about the Bulstrode family. He immediately understood what his senior meant and said no more.
Sean glanced at the two departing Aurors. From the decisiveness with which they had handled the matter and the air they carried, Sean could tell that they were absolutely elite. Like elite active-duty soldiers among ordinary people, they possessed a bearing that ordinary people simply did not have.
These Aurors were probably not the useless hacks from the movies.
After one last look in the direction the two Aurors had gone, Sean returned to his seat, took a bite of the slightly melted ice cream, and opened his panel.
When the conflict with Millicent had happened earlier, Sean noticed that his panel had given him a notification. He simply had not had the spare time to check it then. Now that he did, he naturally had to see what had happened.
Duel victory. Randomly extracting one ability from the Duel opponent. Extracting... Extraction complete. Obtained: Thorn Curse
Seeing these three consecutive notifications, Sean raised an eyebrow slightly. Before the panel had upgraded, whenever Sean competed with others over test scores at school and won with a better score, he would receive the corresponding knowledge in the other person's tested subject, just as these notifications indicated.
It now seemed that the panel had retained this ability, merely changing it into a magical version. Tests had become Duels between two sides, which felt somewhat more dangerous.
With that thought, Sean opened his character panel.
Sean Bulstrode Class: Apprentice Wizard Affiliation: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Skills: Lumos (LV0), Thorn Curse (LV0) Equipment: Ebony Phoenix Wand
Lumos was a spell he had tried to learn after obtaining Gavin's notes. Sean had never succeeded without a Wand, but now that he saw the upgraded panel, he realized he had actually already mastered this magic. It seemed that as long as he held his Wand, he should be able to cast it normally.
Closing the panel, Sean let out a slight sigh of relief.
With the panel's help, he was even more confident that he could establish himself at Hogwarts and in the Magical World in the future.
Someone like Borel might be impossible for Sean to fight right now, but with the panel's help, Sean felt that once he reached Fourth Year—or Fifth Year at the latest—he would be confident in fighting wizards like Borel, protecting himself, and protecting his parents!
