Background / History

Childhood and Mount Yunkui

Yixuan and her older sister, Yijiang, were orphans who survived on the streets by begging and searching trash cans. They refused to abandon each other and promised to live well together beneath the sunlight. Both were eventually brought to Mount Yunkui 10 37.

Yixuan describes herself as Mount Yunkui’s most talented disciple of her generation. Her unusual Ink attribute led her to specialize in arts and energy control rather than the mental-power cultivation associated with sword flight 9.

Fall of the Old Capital

Eleven years before the confrontation with the Order, Yijiang led Mount Yunkui’s disciples into the Hollow to rescue people during the Old Capital’s fall. Yixuan arrived to find her senior brothers and sisters dead from their rescue efforts; she was the operation’s only survivor 33 37.

Yijiang repeatedly used the Qingming Sword beyond her limits to protect the victims. Its side effects consumed her memories until she no longer recognized Yixuan. After Yijiang died, the sword’s power ran wild, catching Yixuan in its effects and leaving her unable to clearly remember her sister’s final words 37.

The losses nearly severed Mount Yunkui’s legacy. Returning to Waifei Peninsula later brought Yixuan into contact with people Yijiang had saved, helping her recognize the lives and hope preserved by her sister’s sacrifice 33 37.

Appearance

• Hair: White 3.
• Build and bearing: Described as a mature beauty; nearly a head shorter than Xu An 3 10.
• Combat features: Manifests ink wings and black-and-gold arts. Her awakened state surrounds her body with golden light and spread wings 4 41.

Personality

Yixuan usually maintains a composed expression, even when surprised or flustered. Beneath that restraint, she enjoys teasing her disciples: she makes Xu An swim as “physical training,” twists his ear when he becomes cheeky, and later pretends to be ill to help the group escape a grateful crowd 5 10 42.

As a teacher, she values talent and character over rigid procedure. She accepts Xu An without Mount Yunkui’s customary two-year preparation and initiation ceremony, and tolerates his concealed secrets once satisfied that his heart is in the right place. She also reminds her pupils to balance cultivation with rest 4 10 18.

Her protectiveness can become stern when disciples endanger themselves. Although haunted by Mount Yunkui’s past losses, she refuses to abandon people threatened by the Order. Her answer is to shoulder the danger herself while ordering her disciples to retreat if necessary 33 37.

Ink-Attribute Mount Yunkui Arts

Yixuan specializes in applying Ether through arts and precise control 9 15.

• Offensive ink: Sends black-and-gold streams down onto Ethereals and envelops enemies in inky Ether to shatter their cores 4 17.
• Talismans: Creates golden talismans for attacks and Corruption-clearing techniques 4.
• Combat arrays: Forms a taiji diagram during the fight with Meral; her awakened power produces a much larger yin-yang array across the battlefield 41.

Corruption Treatment and Ether Resonance

Yixuan can sense a patient’s internal Ether flow and guide it outward to ease Corruption symptoms. For a neighborhood-wide outbreak, she instead coordinates a dangerous formation using Ether Resonance Marks 32 33.

• Formation setup: Gives her companions talisman marks to place at separate focal points; five golden beams rise when they activate the formation 32 33.
• Mass extraction: Draws Corruption from the patients into an enormous concentrated mass, then disperses it with golden light 33.
• Personal cost: The technique draws Ether onto her own body, leaving her weakened and vulnerable to distressing memories. She requires rest and subsequent Ether regulation 33 34.
• Limits: Her attempt to regulate Paro’s Ether does not stop his transformation into an Ethereal 29.

Investigation and Divination

• Hollow navigation: Uses a prepared copy of the Carrot Data to locate Belle and Xu An after the airship crash 4.
• Corruption knowledge: Recognizes the connection between Worry-Free Water’s hallucinations and Corruption, having previously encountered victims drawn into idealized memories 29 32.
• Divination: Plans to cast a divination before dispatching the investigation teams 12.

Relationships

• Yijiang — Older sister, predecessor, and central source of Yixuan’s grief. During the battle with Meral, Yixuan recalls that Yijiang fought to preserve a world in which her younger sister could live 37 41.
• Xu An — Disciple accepted immediately after he reproduces her arts. Their relationship combines teasing, physical affection, and mutual care; he comforts her over her losses and helps regulate her Ether after the formation’s backlash 4 10 15 33 34.
• Belle — Disciple whom Yixuan trains in perception and spells. Yixuan entrusts her with leading the others during her recovery and later confides the details of Yijiang’s death to her 17 18 33 37.
• Wise — Disciple and navigation support. Yixuan assigns Ye Shiyuan to protect him and the city while the others confront the Order 5 15 37.
• Ju Fufu — Eldest disciple, field companion, and enthusiastic admirer of her master’s strength. Fufu is particularly shaken by seeing Yixuan weakened after the mass-treatment formation 5 17 33.
• Pan Yinhu — Disciple who assists with the investigation and fights alongside Yixuan against Meral 12 40 41.
• Ye Shiyuan — Disciple entrusted with protecting Wise and maintaining security in the city during the final operation 8 37.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Airship Attack and Xu An’s Recruitment

Yixuan visits Wise and Belle regarding their investigation commission and agrees to take Xu An along to Waifei Peninsula. After a ranged attack brings down their airship inside Lemnian Hollow, she rescues Belle and Xu An from Ethereals 3 4.

Xu An’s reproduction of her arts convinces her to accept him as a disciple on the spot. She then leads the pair toward the Hollow’s exit while explaining Corruption manipulation 4.

Worker Sickness and Worry-Free Water

With Mayor Mayflower’s authorization, Yixuan oversees Mount Yunkui’s investigation into abnormal Hollow data and worker injuries around the Bright Porcelain production area. Damian Blackwood’s warning to avoid the area does not end the inquiry 12.

The investigation eventually exposes Doctor Lor’s Worry-Free Water as Corruption-tainted rather than curative. After Paro’s transformation and the workers’ rescue, Yixuan organizes emergency treatment when a widespread outbreak threatens the surrounding neighborhood 29 30 32 33.

Confrontation with the Order

While recovering, Yixuan tells Belle about Yijiang and resolves to prevent the Order from exploiting the people her sister saved. She leads the disciples into Lemnian Hollow but explicitly orders them to withdraw if the battle turns against them 37.

The group uncovers Corruption experiments and enters the Order’s underground laboratory. Against Meral, Yixuan briefly freezes under the pressure of memories before recovering her sister’s message, awakening her power, and delivering the decisive attack with Xu An’s support 39 41.

Aftermath

Following the workers’ rescue, Yixuan warns that the Order’s remaining facilities still require investigation. She instructs Belle to deliver a strange object recovered from the hideout to the mayor’s office 42.

Later, she approves Xu An and Belle taking Ye Shunguang to Sixth Street, asking them to keep her safe and ensure she enjoys herself 46.
