As the two spoke, Lin Shen swept his gaze around and could not help but freeze slightly.
Everyone else at their table, including Dies Fast and Dies Early, had their faces pressed close to the dishes, practically stuck to the plates.
Their mouths were closed as they moved their faces over the plates, sniffing again and again. Then they straightened up, expressions of intoxicated bliss on their faces, as though they had just savored fine wine and exquisite delicacies.
Lin Shen looked toward the other tables and found that everyone there was the same. They only bent over the tables to sniff, yet did not touch their chopsticks. Not a single person actually ate the dishes or drank the wine in their cups.
The sight made Lin Shen's scalp prickle. Although there were no ghosts in this world, only all manner of different creatures, this scene still felt deeply strange to him.
"Could they be refusing to eat or drink because there's something wrong with the food and wine?" On second thought, Lin Shen was not afraid of poison. If they really had been poisoned, it would suit him perfectly.
He could pretend to be poisoned and perhaps dig up more of the inside story.
With that thought, Lin Shen picked up the chopsticks on the table and brought a piece of meat to his mouth. He would first see what it tasted like. A full stomach meant more strength for a fight.
Yet after chewing twice, Lin Shen opened his mouth and spat the meat back out.
It was not that the meat was lethally poisonous, so poisonous that even he could not endure it. Rather, it had no taste whatsoever. It truly felt like chewing wax. There was no way he could swallow it.
For the first time
