Background / History
Tang San retains knowledge from a previous life in the Tang Sect, including poison preparation, medicinal ingredients, hidden weapons, and cultivation techniques. He hopes to reproduce Maple Forest Evening’s pills and add their formulas to the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record 6 63.
He grows up in Holy Soul Village with Tang Hao, who works as a blacksmith but drinks heavily and relies on his young son to cook and care for him. According to Old Jack, Tang Hao misses Tang San’s Martial Soul Awakening ceremony and initially opposes his education because nobody would remain to prepare meals. Tang Hao disappears after leaving a letter when Tang San is a little over six 33.
Ah Yin later examines information preserved by the village’s Blue Silver Grass. Observing behavior she considers impossible for an ordinary child, she concludes that her original son died and that the present Tang San possesses his body. She consequently abandons her attachment to him 34.
Appearance
- Evil Fire manifestation: His Blue Silver Grass develops flame markings and later carries flickering dark-red fire 28 40.
- Lightning manifestation: Absorbing Yu Xiaogang’s bloodline adds faint strands of blue lightning around the grass 63.
- Slaughter City transformation: Repeated devouring leaves no part of his body in its original appearance, turning him into a grotesque figure 101.
- Continued growth: Consuming entire bodies makes him increasingly large and monstrous 102.
Personality
Tang San presents himself as a respectful disciple, devoted brother, and upright gentleman, but repeatedly weighs that image against private hostility. He conceals his assassination attempt against Ning Rongrong and later protects Yu Xiaogang publicly while privately planning to torment and exploit him 16 57.
He strongly desires familial affection and takes pride in Tang Hao’s identity as a Titled Douluo. Learning about the Clear Sky Sect increases his sense of status: he regards himself as too noble to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Dai Mubai and believes his father, rather than the sect that expelled him, embodies the true Clear Sky Sect 24 28 56.
His attachment to others becomes increasingly possessive and transactional. After Xiao Wu rejects him, he thinks of her as a lost Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring and Soul Bone. He similarly covets Tang Yuehua’s body, loyalty, and Soul Bones, and eventually threatens the entire Strength Clan to force Tai Tan’s cooperation 24 60 62.
Despite his pride, he retreats when survival requires it. He surrenders to Meng Yiran after being poisoned, seeks escape when he cannot absorb Xiao Yexuan’s flame, and hides in Slaughter City’s safe zone to avoid Xiao Wu 41 63 99.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
His first Martial Soul follows a poison-based control path designed by Yu Xiaogang before developing devouring and Evil Fire properties 36 40 57.
- Blue Silver Entanglement: Sends vines toward a target to bind them; later versions carry Evil Fire 41 56.
- Spider Web Restraint: Third Soul Skill, obtained from the venomous Woman’s Heart spider 40.
- Regenerating toxins: Can replenish the poisons obtained through his Soul Rings after recovering Soul Power 40.
- Control limitations: Tang San recognizes that opponents with stronger attacks can break his grass, while its poison is weaker than the poison on his hidden weapons 57.
Devouring and Mutation
His mutated Blue Silver Grass absorbs outside powers, eventually extending to bloodlines and entire bodies 36 63 102.
- Evil Fire: Drains Ma Hongjun’s fire and uses it offensively, including to drive back poisonous mist 36 41.
- Bloodline absorption: Acquires lightning properties by draining Yu Xiaogang’s Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon bloodline 63.
- Whole-body consumption: Absorbs flesh, blood, energy, and bones from dead Fallen Soul Masters 102.
- Supply limitation: Cannot independently regenerate Ma Hongjun’s Evil Fire; he must obtain more from Ma Hongjun 40.
- Power limitation: Fails to absorb the Green Lotus Core Flame, which burns his grass instead 63.
- Physical cost: Extensive devouring deforms his body and Martial Soul 101.
Clear Sky Hammer
His second Martial Soul gives him access to the Clear Sky Sect’s combat inheritance 40.
- Self-created techniques: Learns almost all of the techniques Tang Hao teaches him, including Ring Detonation 40.
- Ring status: Has no Soul Rings attached when his training is described 40.
- Long-term ambition: Intends to equip it entirely with Hundred Thousand Year Soul Rings; this remains a goal rather than an achieved configuration 36.
Tang Sect Techniques
His previous-life techniques support movement, perception, and poison control 11 16 41.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Used to reach Maple Forest Evening and narrowly evade a Ten-Thousand-Year Mandala Snake 11 41.
- Purple Demon Eye: Enhances perception, but cannot track Zhu Zhuqing’s greatly increased speed 16.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill: Helps him contain Mandala Snake venom in his wounded thigh 41.
- Poison vulnerability: He is not poison-immune during the fight with Meng Yiran; the snake’s venom numbs his body and clouds his consciousness 41.
Poison and Hidden Weapons
Tang San combines concealed projectiles, mechanical weapons, and prepared toxins 7 41 56.
- Medicinal knowledge: Recognizes genuine pills by scent and considers reverse-engineering their ingredients 6.
- Poison delivery: Coats crossbow ammunition with poison and uses bursting hidden weapons to release poisonous mist 56.
- Remote coercion: Plants poison catalysts in others and triggers them by breaking corresponding vials 60.
- Lethality: The poison used against Flender is described as capable of killing experts below Soul Douluo in under a minute 60.
- Counters: Little Ah Yin purifies his poison, while Meng Yiran’s Onix blocks his hidden weapons 41 56 60.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges — Storage Soul Tool. Tang San sells pieces to finance Xiao Wu’s draws, leaving only three pieces at one point; he later offers another piece as a wager 18 40.
- Sand and Shadow — Hidden weapon he claims can kill Soul Masters below rank 30 and threaten stronger opponents vulnerable to poison. Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong reject his sales attempts 7.
- Hair Gold and Dragon Whisker Needles — Valuable assets considered or sold to raise money for pills and lottery draws 6 18.
- Godly Zhuge Crossbow — Mechanical hidden weapon used with poisoned ammunition during the conflict with the Four Single-Attribute Clans 56.

- Hidden-weapon blueprints — Supplied to Tai Tan; Tang San seeks to use the Strength Clan’s blacksmithing skills for an assembly line 29 36.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father, protector, and combat instructor. Tang San admires him and cooperates with his plans; Tang Hao wants to raise him into an expert capable of taking revenge on Spirit Hall 28 40 55 60.
- Ah Yin / Little Ah Yin — Mother of his body. She concludes that he is a possessor rather than her original son; he later fights her without recognizing that relationship and proposes devouring her life abilities 34 56 60.
- Tang Yuehua — Paternal aunt, initially expected to secure Maple Forest Evening’s treasures for him and Tang Hao. After she turns against them, Tang San still covets her loyalty and Soul Bones 28 36 56 62.
- Xiao Wu — Former sworn younger sister and Three-Five Combination partner. He finances her draws, but she rejects him after concluding that Tang Hao intended her sacrifice; she later pursues him in Slaughter City 18 20 24 99.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher who directs his Blue Silver Grass cultivation. Tang San’s outward loyalty turns into concealed murderous resentment after learning that the chosen path prevents Blue Silver Emperor evolution; he subsequently drains Yu Xiaogang’s bloodline 40 57 63.
- Ning Rongrong — Target of an attempted assassination motivated by her pills. Her sect’s potential retaliation becomes one reason Tang Hao believes Tang San still needs his protection 11 55.
- Zhu Zhuqing — Opponent who rejects his proposed weapon trade and later defeats him at the Soul Fighting Arena 7 16.
- Ma Hongjun — Source of Evil Fire. Tang San repeatedly drains him until he becomes severely emaciated 36.
- Tai Tan and the Strength Clan — Sought as hidden-weapon manufacturers, then coerced through poison planted in the clansmen 29 60.
- Xiao Yexuan — Rival whose treasures and cultivation methods Tang San covets. Tang San later suspects that he may also originate from another world 36 63.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Pursuit of Maple Forest Evening’s Pills
Tang San initially wants pills both for Yu Xiaogang and for research into their formulas. Unable to pay, he attempts to barter hidden weapons, resents Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong’s refusals, and subsequently attempts to assassinate Ning Rongrong for her pills. Ram intervenes, with Tang Hao’s pressure freeing Tang San from her wind magic 6 7 11.
At the Soul Fighting Arena, Zhu Zhuqing overwhelms him despite his hidden weapons and Purple Demon Eye. Three claw attacks leave him bloodied and both arms disabled, forcing Xiao Wu to surrender for their team 16.
Financing Xiao Wu and Losing Her Allegiance
Tang San raises 100,000 Gold Soul Coins by selling weapons and pieces of his storage tool. Xiao Wu spends the money on 270 draws without obtaining the Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bone. He later brings another 500,000 Gold Soul Coins and attributes most of it to a Titled Douluo patron 18.
That disclosure alarms Xiao Wu. Tang Hao’s attempt to seize her confirms her fears, and Maple Forest Evening protects her while Tang Hao retreats with Tang San. When they next meet in Star Dou Great Forest, Xiao Wu beats Tang San and explicitly rejects him as her brother 19 23 24.
Evil Fire Cultivation and Meng Yiran’s Challenge
Tang San begins draining Ma Hongjun’s Evil Fire to strengthen his Martial Soul. He later accepts a wager against Meng Yiran, demanding three pills if he wins. Her summoned Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts overwhelm his defenses, and Mandala Snake venom forces him to surrender 36 40 41.
Exposure and Escalation
During the confrontation with Tang Yuehua and the Four Single-Attribute Clans, Little Ah Yin defeats his fire and poison. Her explanation of Blue Silver Grass evolution exposes the damage caused by his cultivation path. Tang San prevents Tang Hao from killing Yu Xiaogang publicly but privately decides to exploit his teacher’s bloodline 56 57.
He then attempts to kill Flender through remotely triggered poison and murders several Strength Clan members to demonstrate his leverage over Tai Tan. After absorbing Yu Xiaogang’s bloodline, he fails to absorb the Green Lotus Core Flame and directs Tai Tan to arrange a retreat 60 63.
Slaughter City
Tang Hao sends Tang San to Slaughter City to train. His devouring ability allows rapid growth, but Xiao Wu remains stronger and drives him into the safe zone. Once she leaves, he resumes killing and consuming others, accepting his increasing deformity as the price of strength 99 101.
When Xiao Yexuan arrives, Tang San realizes that escape is unlikely and considers surrender. Hoping to prove his usefulness, he consumes the bodies of slain Fallen Soul Masters. Qian Daoliu asks to destroy him, but Xiao Yexuan stops the execution, leaving Tang San alive in his increasingly monstrous form 102.
