Linden walked to the nearest coffin and casually touched it. The fingertips formed from mycelium transmitted a hard sensation.
Although the God of Death had said these were all projections, they were clearly different from the cutscene when the Mist Monster was being decomposed, which could only be watched and not touched. This could be interacted with.
Linden had wanted to see what was inside these coffins for ages!
He placed both hands on the coffin lid and pushed, but it did not budge. This coffin was more complicated than it looked.
However, after Linden observed it from a datafied perspective, he soon grasped the method to open it.
As Linden activated several buttons that looked like rivets, the lid was propped up by supports, revealing what was inside.
Linden had thought there would be a body soaking in nutrient fluid inside, or, to take it to an even greater extreme, a brain with countless tubes plugged into it, but that was not the case.
"A crystal?" Inside the coffin was an Information Cube that combined machinery and crystal. Something flowed slowly within it, like liquid light. "What is this?"
Nephrela moved over soundlessly. "The souls of intelligent life. In this dead universe, one of the only two things still of value."
"So the world was destroyed, and everyone hid inside a game to cling to life?" Linden lifted his mushroom cap and looked toward that pure-black Sky Veil. "Why was the world destroyed? Can it still be saved? You said only two. What's the other thing of value?"
Linden's emotions were not remotely pleasant right now.
Before this, even when he had known his memories might be fake, and that he might not even count as a person, none of those things had shaken him.
Because those
