Background / History

Mei is the daughter of Raiden Ryoma, an executive of ME Company. Before learning the truth of his work, she knew him mainly as a stern and perpetually busy entrepreneur. Ryoma's hidden contributions to Anti-Entropy—including ME Company's Titan Mechs saving countless lives—later reshape her understanding of him. 111

During a Mid-Autumn Festival dinner, an impostor posing as Welt Yang attacks the Raiden residence. Mei witnesses Ryoma being struck down and attempts to avenge him with the broken half of his katana, only for the blade to shatter against the attacker. She does not know that Ryoma was secretly captured rather than killed. 80 81

The attacker leaves a silvery-white Y-shaped imprint in Mei's mind and examines the Stigmata on her waist, judging it flawed and dangerous. Believing her father dead, Mei returns to school, endures harassment over the accusations against him, and resolves to uncover the truth and gain the strength to take revenge. 81 82

Mei recruits Shi Hen as a sword instructor after he demonstrates the ability to cut an iron post in half. Although initially distrustful of him, she accepts his training in swordsmanship and Honkai Energy control, enduring repeated failures with mercury targets because her sealed Stigmata makes sensing Honkai Energy unusually difficult. 90 91 94

Mei is initially portrayed as gentle, elegant, and disciplined, carrying herself with the refinement of ME Company's young lady. Her father's apparent death exposes a fiercer side: she becomes guarded, intensely focused on revenge, and willing to pay any price for power. 82 91

Despite that determination, Mei repeatedly retains compassion. She protects weaker allies such as Pardo, recognizes the efforts of others even when her own power far exceeds theirs, and accepts a child survivor's request to call her “Mei-sister.” 304 305 491
