The scenery on both sides of the road rushed past, Yu Meiren sat on the back of the motorcycle, tightly hugging Qingmu's waist, the wind whistling past her ears.
Not long after, the motorcycle stopped. Yu Meiren saw a magnificent building built against the mountain, surrounded by barbed wire on a high wall, with sandbags piled up outside the gate, and fully armed soldiers patrolling on both sides.
Qingmu lifted her off the motorcycle and carried her on his shoulder just like before.
Yu Meiren asked, "Where is this?"
Qingmu said, "This is where the poppies bloom. Let's go harvest them now."
Yu Meiren said, "Okay."
Qingmu, carrying Yu Meiren, shuffled towards the gate of Wu Suotun's general's mansion.
Wu Suotun was certainly not a real general, but he ruled as a kingpin in Masuba, employing numerous mercenaries to protect his drug trade and training his own semi-professional army. Because of the intense separatist movements among local armed groups in Mianyue, the government was preoccupied and unable to intervene. Furthermore, Wu Suotun's so-called business did indeed bring prosperity to northern Northern Myanmar, so the Kokang Government completely ignored the situation. The entire Masuba was essentially Wu Suotun's personal domain.
Fifty meters outside the main entrance of the building, there is a long row of barricades, which can effectively prevent attacks by armed vehicles. Although the fortifications built with sandbags at the entrance are simple, as long as it is not a large-scale attack by a regular army, the few machine guns can still stop most of the attacks by people who want to harm Wu Suotun.
There were many sentries with guns patrolling the rooftop, and the security was very tight. It seemed that although Wu Suotun was the local tyrant, there must be many people who wanted to eliminate him or replace him.
By this time, Wu Suotun had already received news that his secret villa had been raided. Of course, he didn't believe that a young man had done it. Although the defenses of that villa were not as good as this one, to take it down, and to do it so cleanly, so cleanly that Wu Suotun only received a report by phone and then heard nothing more from it, he thought that it would take at least a squad of professional soldiers to do it.
Wu Suotun was convinced that it was his sworn enemy in the Golden Triangle who did it. When he was purging the moles some time ago, in addition to finding out many informants planted by the police, he also dug out many people that his old enemy had placed around him.
He immediately strengthened the defenses of his residence. Unless they came with tanks and planes, there was no way they could take over his building without sending a company of regular troops.
However, he never expected that the person who walked into the building was just a young man holding a little girl in his arms.
Qingmu walked towards the gate with a tap-tap...
The guards shouted, "Get out of the way! You can't go in here!"
Qingmu continued forward until he reached the barricades before stopping.
The soldier raised his gun and asked, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
Qingmu ignored him and said to Yu Meiren, "I'm going to harvest the poppies now. Close your eyes."
Yu Meiren seemed to understand something and said, "Okay." Then she obediently leaned on Qingmu's shoulder and closed her eyes.
Qingmu gently patted Yu Meiren's back and said, "Good girl!"
The Beauty felt warm and light all over. Although her eyes were closed, she saw herself in a sea of flowers. The flowers were within her reach, and they were so beautiful.
Then she noticed some flowers among the blooms that were particularly alluring. She knew those were the harmful poppies.
"I want to harvest poppies too," she murmured, reaching for the nearest poppy.
The soldier, enraged that Qingmu ignored him, turned his rifle around, intending to smash the man dressed like a beggar with the butt of his gun. This was their usual tactic for dealing with the poor.
Just then, the sky, which had been bright and sunny, suddenly darkened. The soldier felt something was strange and looked up at the sky. In the distance, a dark cloud was drifting over, blocking out the Sun.
Just as he looked up, Qingmu's hand reached out and his fingers gripped the trigger of the AK in the soldier's hand. Because he had just turned the gun around, the muzzle was now pointed directly at the soldier's chest.
With two sharp "thuds," bright red blood gushed from the soldier's chest.
With a "snap," Yu Meiren broke off the poppy stem in front of her, and bright red sap flowed from the broken end.
The soldier released his gun and fell backward.
The gunshots alerted the soldiers at the gate fifty meters away, and two machine guns were ready to fire. The sniper in the watchtower on the rooftop also took aim, ready to pull the trigger at any moment.
However, at that moment, a crow cawed from the sky, and the dark cloud in the distance drifted over quickly. When it got closer, people could see that it was a huge bird with its outstretched wings like two clouds hanging in the sky, casting a huge shadow on the earth.
The giant bird flew closer and closer, and with the flapping of its wings, a gale swept up the ground, and sand and dust billowed in.
The guards' eyes were blinded by the dust storm; they could see nothing but the clatter of footsteps carried on the wind.
When the sandstorm subsided and they opened their eyes again, they found the man in flip-flops had reached the gate, holding a little girl in one arm and an AK in the other.
Rat-a-tat-tat, gunfire rang out, two machine gunners were hit and fell to the ground, and the heads of the two machine guns drooped.
Snap, snap, Yu Meiren broke off two more poppies in the sea of flowers.
The sniper on the watchtower pulled the trigger. The bullet, spinning, headed straight for Qingmu, but suddenly the huge Crow appeared on the top of the watchtower, flapped its wings, and the gust of wind blew the bullet off its original trajectory, making it circle in mid-air before flying back.
The sniper watched helplessly as the bullet pierced his forehead with a "thud." He leaned back, his head spun, and his mind went blank.
Am I dead?
He scrambled to his feet and crawled forward a few steps, still dazed. His vision cleared, and he heard gunshots. Realizing he wasn't dead, he quickly touched his forehead and found he wasn't injured.
He paused for a moment, and as he prepared to reach for his sniper rifle to fire again, he discovered that he was no longer in his firing position, but had climbed outside the watchtower.
The enormous Crow was right overhead, its sharp claws reaching for him. He screamed in terror and fell off the watchtower.
Yu Meiren reached out and grabbed a poppy that was some distance away. She pulled it out forcefully and threw it away.
The soldiers patrolling upstairs opened fire on the Crow, the bullets passing through Crow bodies as easily as passing through a cloud. The Crow seemed enraged, letting out a loud cawing and swooping down with their massive bodies.
The soldiers were so frightened that they scattered and fell from the building one after another.
Yu Meiren followed suit, using both hands alternately to pluck poppies one after another and throw them out.
A soldier in the compound carried a rocket launcher and fired at Qingmu. The rocket flew out with a piercing whistle, hitting Qingmu and exploding.
With a deafening roar, flames shot into the air.
As the soldier relaxed and put down the rocket launcher, preparing to celebrate, he suddenly realized that the rocket was still intact on the launcher and had not been fired at all.
He turned the rocket launcher around in confusion to see why the warhead hadn't been fired, then looked at the raging flames where the explosion had just occurred. Suddenly, he heard a "caw" and a giant black bird flew out from the flames, swooping down on him.
He was startled and nervously pulled the trigger of the rocket launcher, forgetting that the rocket launcher was pointed at him.
With a deafening roar, the soldier carrying the rocket launcher blew himself into the air.
Yu Meiren plucked another poppy flower, threw it forcefully, and the poppy flower tumbled into the sky and was blown far away by the wind.
