Those were truly towering waves, not just an adjective.
Language can sometimes be quite exaggerated. When we see waves several meters high, we usually describe them as towering giants. Of course, waves a few meters high can easily capsize a ship. The Indonesia tsunami, with its waves reaching tens of meters high, caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
If a wave could truly be towering, what terrifying power it would possess!
Having traversed the seas for over a decade, Petru had weathered countless storms. He had steered his ship through tempestuous storms, escaped tsunamis triggered by devastating underwater earthquakes, and even witnessed the eruption of a submerged volcano. The sea had given him a new life, transforming him into the infamous Redbeard, yet the waters constantly proclaimed their raging power to him, reminding him who truly ruled the sea. He harbored complex feelings towards the ocean, a mixture of awe and a desire to conquer it.
At that moment, Redbeard was dumbfounded.
This was a sight he had never seen before: on a small island in the Pacific Ocean, the distant seawater suddenly surged up from the horizon, reaching all the way to the sky, roaring between heaven and earth with a devastating power that instilled despair.
The giant moon in the sky was already awe-inspiring enough, but now there are towering waves, which are completely beyond human comprehension and imagination.
"What the hell is this?!" Petru shouted, as the giant waves crashed against the earth with a deafening roar, so loud that one could not hear a voice without shouting.
Qingmu was also very puzzled. How high was this wave? A hundred meters? A thousand meters? Or tens of thousands of meters? No one could tell.
"Even if the moon's gravity causes tidal changes, it shouldn't be enough to create such huge waves, right?" He recalled Su Huilan's words about the effects of tides. "If there were such a strong gravitational pull, it would have pulled us up long ago, and this island would have been torn to pieces!"
Su Huilan said, "It is indeed due to the moon's gravity, but don't forget, we are in a distorted space, so those giant waves are different from the tsunamis we see on Earth. They are actually surging towards the moon on a curved surface. It's like a bottle, and we are at the bottom. The seawater is affected by the moon's gravity and flows along the bottle wall towards the opening."
"So, we're not in danger here?" Petru relaxed a little.
Su Huilan said, "No, you can imagine a bottle. When the water inside the bottle flows up the side to the mouth, if the mouth is too small to drain the water out, it will flow back to the bottom."
Petru hadn't participated in the discussion about the Klein Bottle, so he didn't know what Su Huilan was talking about. He looked around and it did indeed feel like a bottle; the surging seawater made the previously invisible curves appear visually. They were like a group of ants living in a giant bottle, with nowhere to escape, nowhere to retreat, and could only watch helplessly as the giant wave overturned them.
"I hope the bottle opening is big enough!" Qingmu said.
"But no matter how big the opening is, the Klein Bottle is open, and the water will eventually flow back to the bottom." Su Huilan looked at the savages, and in their expressions, she saw despair.
"Look at them, they are the natives of this place. Perhaps they have experienced similar events, which is why they are so afraid. They know what this means! Perhaps it is because of these periodic disasters that the civilization here is so backward, unable to develop at all."
"But they all survived; they didn't go extinct, did they?"
Qingmu took a few steps toward the altar, getting closer to the savages. The savage shaman was in the middle of the crowd, his scepter held in a strange posture. He had held it that way when they were prostrating in prayer, and now that he was standing, he was still holding it that way.
Qingmu didn't know what that meant, but he saw something different in the wizard's expression. It was a face of despair, but within that despair, there was a stubborn persistence. Like a dying, starving, sick lion, facing inevitable death, looking at the herd of bison ahead, still wanting to stand up and fight one last time—that kind of unwillingness and stubbornness.
Qingmu saw the old wizard glance at him, but quickly looked away, as if these strange races were no longer important to him at that moment.
Qingmu knew he must be doing something, must be waiting for something!
The moon drew ever closer, so close it seemed one could reach out and touch the craters. The tides rose higher and higher, curving across the sky from afar to the moon's surface, as if they were the moon's flowing ocean.
People smelled the stench of death.
Petru suddenly roared, turning the muzzle of his submachine gun to aim at the savage. "Damn it, since I'm going to die anyway, Laozi 'll get revenge for that arrow first!"
He had just rushed up the steps when Qingmu stopped him.
"Don't be impulsive!" Qingmu said, "We might have to rely on them to survive!"
Petru looked at Qingmu with a frantic and confused expression, but still put down his gun.
Su Huilan didn't know what Qingmu was talking about, but seeing that he seemed to have a plan, she didn't ask any further questions. At this time, asking questions was pointless; Qingmu would definitely speak when the time was right.
Qingmu took two more steps up the steps, getting even closer to the savage shaman. He tested the waters with his Mental Power and immediately sensed a raging torrent in his mind. This was no longer a mental fluctuation, but a mental tidal wave, moving against the direction of the giant waves on the horizon, only one was tangible and the other intangible.
He understood. The old man before him was mobilizing the Mental Power of the entire island to maintain the stability of this space. Once this space collapsed, the water in the sky would instantly pour down, like a bottle shattering. However, no matter how powerful the old man was, he could not stop this natural force that was devouring heaven and earth.
Given this despairing contrast of power, is a miracle still possible?
Qingmu believed there was something. There must be something the old man longed for, something that could save their tribe and allow their race to survive for a long time.
He made up his mind and shouted to the audience, " Petru, go inside the altar and save Mrs. Larry! Professor Su, the Boss Coal, Hanran, you all help this old man with me! Remember, no matter what happens later, just do what these savages do!"
With the giant moon high in the sky and the raging sea stretching to the horizon, no one questioned Qingmu's decision at that moment.
Su Huilan, the Crow, and the cat approached him, accepting his spiritual guidance. Together, they released all their Mental Power and, together with the Mental Power Field mobilized by the savage shaman, did their best to maintain the stability of the entire space.
Petru then crouched down and rushed forward, knocking down two savages, and charged into the altar where huge stones floated.
He saw that inside the altar, huge stones floated in the air, and moonlight shone through the gaps between the stones, forming bizarre and colorful patterns at the bottom of the altar.
Mrs. Larry was lying face down on the ground in the center of the altar, on all fours, as if searching for something. A beam of moonlight shone down, illuminating her smooth back.
