Ten-odd minutes later, Chi Yining came downstairs on his own, without waiting for Yan Guiyun to go up and get him.
Brother Yan had said yesterday that he would make him breakfast. He had almost forgotten.
Chi Yining walked into the kitchen and drifted lightly over to Yan Guiyun's side, but the extractor fan was so loud that he had to lean close to Yan Guiyun's ear and shout, "Morning, Brother Yan!"
Only when Yan Guiyun heard him did he realize the kitten was awake. He slowly leaned down, lowering his head to his ear as well, his voice as warm as jade. "Good morning, Xiao Yi."
Chi Yining felt his ear tickle when they spoke like this. Next time they were in the same sort of environment, he should try not to talk.
Chi Yining stood to the side without leaving, keeping watch until his breakfast was ready.
Soon, the shiitake and lean pork congee was ready. Chi Yining went to get bowls and chopsticks, while Yan Guiyun carried out the clay pot of congee for two.
Then he took the side dishes they had bought yesterday out of the fridge, tipped them into two small dishes, and set them on the table as well.
"Brother Yan, is it ready?"
Yan Guiyun, who had gone to fetch spoons, returned to find the kitten practically drooling with hunger. He could not help chuckling. "It's ready. I'll serve you some. It's hot."
After serving him, Yan Guiyun was still a little uneasy and reminded him, "Let it cool before you eat."
With stars in his eyes and nearly starving, Chi Yining stared fixedly at the bowl of congee. "Mm."
Hu Bing and Wang Xinyang had returned too. They were having a Western-style breakfast, so theirs did not take as long.
Seeing the easy harmony between Chi Yining and Yan Guiyun, as though no one else existed, made Hu Bing jealous. That was right-he was jealous of someone for the first time!
Yan Guiyun was way too good at this!! When would he get a chance...? He could only pray he would get lucky in today's drawing.
Wang Xinyang had also thought things through after returning from his run. He would wait patiently for an opportunity. Yan Guiyun, that rich young master, might just be toying with Chi Yining's feelings right now and get bored in a couple of days.
When that happened... hehehe~
Hu Bing happened to turn his head and saw Wang Xinyang's smile growing increasingly creepy on his left. He waved a hand in front of his eyes. "Something wrong with you?"
Wang Xinyang said, "Hmph. You're the one with something wrong."
Just then, Bai Chongxuan came downstairs after his shower. "Xiao Yang, where's my breakfast?"
"Top shelf of the fridge. Milk and milk buns." Wang Xinyang raised his head and helplessly pointed with his chin.
"That's it?" After opening the fridge, Bai Chongxuan turned back to stare at him in disbelief.
"What else? Yesterday, I asked you what you wanted to eat and whether this would do. You said, 'Mm, sure.'" Wang Xinyang felt that Bai Chongxuan was about to use up a whole year's worth of his patience.
"Wasn't I on my phone yesterday? Couldn't you have let me take a look before deciding?" Bai Chongxuan's eyes were full of grievance.
To someone like this, Wang Xinyang could only say, "Eat it or don't."
Hu Bing nearly laughed aloud beside them. Why was Wang Xinyang acting like a parent looking after a child? Thinking of it that way, his partner Jia Mingchuan was quite normal.
With his appeal unsuccessful, Bai Chongxuan could only reluctantly take the food out to fill his stomach.
After breakfast
At 9:40 sharp, the staff sent the guests a text message telling them to gather.
Everyone came downstairs one after another again and gathered in the living room, most of them having pulled themselves away from work or study.
Chi Yining had previously wondered why the living room was so big. Now he knew: the director simply wanted to save himself the trouble of finding venues. All sorts of little clues pointed to the director being a lazybones.
There was still no host today.
Staff member Yang Fang said, "Since the host suddenly fell ill, our staff will be announcing and hosting the activities from now on."
