To say Xia Zhiyi could fly was still a bit of an exaggeration.
The police in Yue City worked quickly, and the owners of several shops at the scene had been very cooperative, handing over their surveillance footage of the incident. So while everyone at the hospital gave their accounts, another team was reviewing the footage.
Before that, though, without seeing it themselves, everyone found it hard to believe the sequence of events Xia Zhiyi described.
But the witnesses who had come along this time weren't limited to the siblings, Xia Zhiyi and Xia Wanyi. There were also sales assistants from a nearby clothing store and several passersby who had happened to be across the street.
Some of them really had seen Xia Zhiyi "take off" with Xia Wanyi at the critical moment to dodge the truck.
"Um, I can confirm that what this young guy said is true. I was across the street, and I happened to turn around just then. I saw a shadow fly over from the other side with a whoosh. I-I got quite a fright too."
The one who raised his hand to speak was a flashily dressed young man with chestnut-dyed hair. He rubbed his head as he spoke, looking a little bewildered. "I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me... how could a person fly...?"
Xia Zhiyi fell silent for a while and looked at everyone. After a moment, he said, "That wasn't flying. I pushed off something."
He paused, then added, "If you don't believe me, you might still be able to see footprints on the trunks of those trees the truck knocked away."
Then, seemingly feeling that this explanation wasn't quite appropriate either, the boy let his shoulders droop a little, looking somewhat resigned. "Never mind. I'll just demonstrate."
Everyone: "..."
Although it wasn't really appropriate to say so in such a serious setting... who wouldn't be curious?
Could someone really fly?
And so, a few minutes later, everyone moved beneath a tree not far from the hospital entrance.
Xia Zhiyi hadn't expected that the first thing he would do after returning here would actually be to prove his physical skills.
But this was a trivial matter to him. Besides, considering that it would be best to gain the authorities' trust for now, which would make his subsequent plans easier, he could only loosen up his limbs resignedly while motioning for Xia Wanyi to come over.
Xia Wanyi: "...Zhiyi, can you really do it?"
Xia Wanyi was also shocked that Xia Zhiyi had stayed calm in the face of danger and had even managed to scoop her up and dart out of harm's way at a moment like that. But knowing he had studied martial arts under someone before, she found it easier to accept.
Although... even now, remembering the sensation of suddenly taking flight, Xia Wanyi still felt dazed, as though she weren't living in reality.
But considering that people could unleash enormous potential in moments of danger, Xia Wanyi hadn't thought too much about it.
Now that Xia Zhiyi intended to give a simple reenactment, however, Xia Wanyi was a little worried that her younger brother might get hurt. After all, although she wasn't fat, she still weighed over eighty jin, not four or five.
At her words, Xia Zhiyi smiled at Xia Wanyi and beckoned. "Sis, come here."
Seeing this, Xia Wanyi could only cooperate.
Then everyone saw that Xia Wanyi had only just walked over to Xia Wanyi's side and hadn't even come to a stop when a brief scream rang out. At the same time, their vision blurred. Just as the chestnut-haired young man had described, with a whoosh, the young, fresh-faced boy vanished from before their eyes, taking the gentle, refined older woman with him.
Those who reacted quickly turned their heads at once and saw the siblings already four or five meters away.
Everyone: "..."
The police officer: "...Ahem."
The young officer quickly wrote something in the notebook in his hand, then closed it. Looking at Xia Zhiyi, who had already walked back, and Xia Wanyi, who still seemed a little dazed, he said, "You really didn't need to go to all this trouble. I just wanted to look into the general circumstances before the incident. It's a good thing you were able to get out of harm's way in time."
The young officer paused, but couldn't resist asking, "Was that Qinggong just now?"
Although Xia Zhiyi had said he couldn't fly, and the sharp-eyed young officer had indeed seen him kick off the tree before moving-there were even leaves on his shoulder that Xia Zhiyi's movements had shaken loose...
That was so cool!
Hearing the young officer's words, Xia Zhiyi was rather speechless too. Only after a moment of silence did he say hesitantly under everyone's eager gazes, "You think that's Qinggong?"
The young officer blinked. "Isn't it?"
The onlookers blinked too, clear confusion in their eyes: Wasn't it?
Xia Zhiyi's lips moved, and he managed a polite smile. "If you think it is, then it is."
He hadn't even done anything, and these people were already looking at him with such enthusiasm. If he really used Qinggong, Xia Zhiyi feared they would surround him and he wouldn't be able to get away.
Just then, a voice came through the radio on the young officer's chest. Under everyone's gazes, he exchanged a few words with his teammates, then said to Xia Zhiyi, "They've retrieved the footage from before the incident. So far, it more or less matches your accounts. I've got a clear understanding of the situation now. If there's nothing else, you can leave for the time being. We'll contact you afterward if necessary."
Normally, though, it wouldn't be that much trouble. After all, these people had merely been unlucky enough to witness an accident. In a sense, they were victims too.
After speaking, the young officer gave Xia Zhiyi another look, then said goodbye to everyone, turned, and left.
The others exchanged glances at this. When they turned back, they discovered that Xia Zhiyi and Xia Wanyi had already left side by side.
"Ah, wait, young man... wait, are you eighteen yet?" Someone hurried after them.
Hearing the voice, Xia Zhiyi stopped and turned to look at the person catching up. He immediately spotted the work badge hanging from the man's chest and knew he was a member of the production crew.
His expression shifted slightly. He motioned for Xia Wanyi to wait for him in the shade nearby, then looked at the crew member. "What is it?"
As he spoke, he lowered his eyes for a glance and was a little surprised. This was actually a writer-director.
The writer-director from the Extreme Speed Production Team, named Xu Chang, stepped forward with a smile. He looked at Xia Zhiyi for a while, then took out his wallet, rummaged through it, and handed Xia Zhiyi a business card. "Hello, I'm Xu Chang, one of the writer-directors on the Extreme Speed City Production Team."
"It's nothing else. I just wanted to ask, young man... would you be interested in joining the entertainment industry?"
At this, Xia Zhiyi lowered his eyes, accepted the business card, and glanced at it. Then, with a calm expression, he looked at the expectant Xu Chang and smiled. "Thank you. I'll consider it."
Xu Chang: "..."
Xu Chang: "All right."
