Background / History

Creation God and the Qiang Kingdom

Before meeting Ji Nanshu, Chu Mo had no personal name. People in the worlds he visited addressed him as “my lord,” while those in the God Realm called him the Creation God. His duties included keeping small worlds functioning normally 193.

The God of Fate and Time sent him to the Qiang Kingdom to protect Ji Nanshu. The world’s survival depended on Ji Nanshu living long enough to become a formidable fangshi; his premature death would cause a catastrophe killing tens of millions. Chu Mo’s assignment would last no more than five years 193 205.

Chu Mo initially lived inside a black sword rather than being the sword itself. Ji Nanshu had just turned twelve when they first met and called him a monster. He also gave Chu Mo the name he continued to use afterward 181 193.

Their companionship developed into love. After Ji Nanshu’s master and his master’s wife departed, Chu Mo remained at his side. Ji Nanshu confessed first, and Chu Mo accepted immediately, despite both knowing that his stay was temporary 192 193.

Separation and the Second Life

Chu Mo intended to find Ji Nanshu after reincarnation and make him fall in love again. Unknown to him at the time, Ji Nanshu divined a chance for them to share a lifetime in his next incarnation. After Chu Mo left, Ji Nanshu sacrificed himself to stop the Blood God Cult’s blood sacrifice and send Ji Ya back to her world, then exchanged his merit for another life 193.

The God of Fate and Time revealed that he had arranged Chu Mo’s original assignment after glimpsing a connection to his future partner. Chu Mo thanked him and agreed to seek Ji Nanshu again without revealing his identity or their shared past 193.

Their reunion failed in Ji Nanshu’s second life: someone had deliberately altered his fate, and he died by suicide. Chu Mo also killed himself at Ji Nanshu’s grave. The God of Fate later identified the interference as his subordinate’s wrongdoing 192 193.

The Third Life

The God of Fate used half his divine power to give Ji Nanshu a third life and returned Chu Mo to their first meeting in that life. Whether they could remain together depended on Ji Nanshu recovering his memories; Chu Mo could not simply explain their past to him 113 178 193.

Once Ji Nanshu remembered, Chu Mo disclosed his identity and the circumstances behind their reunions. He confirmed that they could stay together forever and offered to accompany Ji Nanshu through the small-world trials needed to become a god 193.

Appearance

Chu Mo is notably handsome, with a muscular physique and a deep, resonant voice 2 5 205.

  • Facial features: Sword-like brows and phoenix eyes 170.
  • Historical styling: Appears in black clothing with long, ink-dark hair tied behind his head during the cultural street performance 170.
  • Modern clothing: Wears shirts and ties in work settings 5 72.
  • Demeanor: Often appears cold and unapproachable, contrasting with his visibly tender expressions around Ji Nanshu 96 185.

Personality

Chu Mo is blunt, intimidating, and unwilling to indulge people who persist after being rejected. His fans describe him as someone who cannot be forced into unwanted work and who will argue with almost anyone, including his own supporters. Chu Wei distinguishes between his courteous rejection of respectful admirers and his harsh treatment of those who keep pestering him 19 185.

With Ji Nanshu, he is attentive and domestically affectionate. He replaces uncomfortable furniture, cooks preferred meals, dries his hair, carries him when he is barefoot or sleepy, and offers reassurance during his uneasy reunion with the Ji Family. He also recognizes when accompanying Ji Nanshu on a supernatural investigation would make him a burden 4 24 48 84 147.

His affection is possessive and frequently jealous. Employees looking at Ji Nanshu, fans receiving his talismans, and relatives offering to introduce younger partners all provoke reactions. He sometimes performs exaggerated hurt or insecurity to obtain reassurance or divert questions about their past 31 55 72 108.

His intimate conduct also includes disregarding Ji Nanshu’s protests and continuing after promises to stop. His apologies are repeatedly paired with an intention to behave the same way again 72 115 157.
