"Then you should watch mine," Draco said confidently.
"Okay~ then I'll keep my eyes peeled and watch how you show off your skills, boss!" Becky agreed obediently.
But inwardly, he secretly pursed his lips and muttered to himself:
Hmph, wait until you lose a few rounds on roulette, and after you've had your fill of setbacks, you'll naturally listen to me and come play dice with me. Then I'll show you the prowess of a female gambling god!
The two sat down at a roulette table. Several people were gathered around the table, and the dealer was a young man with a blank expression.
The roulette wheel is spinning, and the ball bounces along the smooth track. Most gamblers bet on "red/black," "odd/even," and "big/small," which have a probability close to 50%, while only a few bet on specific numbers to try and win higher odds.
After casually fiddling with his chips, Draco looked at Becky beside him and asked, "What do you think I should bet on?"
"Huh?" Becky pointed to her nose, looking surprised. This very opinionated boss was actually asking for her opinion?
"Or is there someone else here?" Draco said calmly. "Go ahead and say it. If you lose, it's yours; if you win, it's mine."
"This isn't good!" Becky bit her lip. "But I'll feel really embarrassed if I bet on something and lose..." She said she felt embarrassed, but she was already incredibly tempted.
They also concluded that Draco was a foolish, rich guy.
"Don't worry, I can afford to lose," Draco added calmly, seemingly seeing through her hesitation.
These words were like a shot in the arm; Becky stopped refusing and her face lit up with eagerness, but she pretended to be hesitant. "Then I'll really choose! Don't blame me if anything goes wrong! But I'll try to be as careful as possible!"
"I won't blame you, at most..." Draco grinned crookedly.
"What's the most?" Becky asked nervously.
"I'll replace the two drinks I'm offering you with plain water."
"You scared me!" Becky realized he was joking, patted his arm, and then laughed too.
"How many chips do you have?" Becky asked in a low voice, glancing at the stack of colorful, round plastic chips beside him.
9900.
After considering it for a moment, and adhering to the principle of caution, Becky decided. "Let's bet 100 chips first, on red!"
As she spoke, she carefully picked up a 100-yuan chip and placed it steadily in the red area. Red or black, the odds were 1:1, and the probability was close to 50%, making it the safest way to test the waters.
The roulette wheel began to spin under the dealer's control, and the ivory ball bounced on the smooth track, making a crisp sound.
All eyes were focused on the bouncing ball. Becky clenched her fists nervously, silently chanting in her mind:
Red, red, red!
"Tap, tap, tap..." A moment later, the ball landed with a thud in a black square.
"Black, odd number, 19." The dealer announced expressionlessly, taking away all the chips from the red zone. The gamblers around him who had bet on black cheered, and Becky's face instantly fell.
Draco turned his head, looking at her calmly, his eyes conveying a clear message: That is—how do you explain this?
Feeling guilty under his gaze, Becky immediately shifted the blame. "It's not my fault! You're the one who made me choose!"
"Besides, there's a 50/50 chance of red or black, which is normal..." she explained again, but her voice trailed off.
"I don't blame you," Draco chuckled, then said, "But your good luck doesn't seem to be working very well."
"That's only the first round!" Becky said, unconvinced. "Let's do another round, I'm sure I'll bet on red next time!"
"Okay, how much should we bet?" Draco agreed.
"Let's stick with 100." Becky chose the safer option.
Upon hearing this, Draco handed her another hundred-coin chip. This time, Bay didn't put it down immediately. Instead, she carefully observed the roulette wheel and looked at the betting patterns of the other gamblers.
Only then did he solemnly place his chips back in the red area.
The roulette wheel spun again, and Beqi stared intently at the bouncing ball, silently praying. But Lady Luck once again slipped through her fingers, and the ball stopped in the black square.
Cheers erupted again, and Becky's face darkened. She had deliberately bet on red alongside a customer who seemed to have good luck, yet she still lost.
"W-why is it black again..." she murmured incredulously, stealing a glance at Draco, only to meet his amused gaze. Her confidence vanished instantly, and she could only offer a soft explanation.
"It's purely coincidental, really just a coincidence. Two games in a row, it doesn't mean I'm unlucky at all..."
Draco nodded, going along with her words, "Hmm, that's a possibility. So... shall we play a third one?"
"Come on! Why not come!" Becky protested, "Just one last time, I'll choose carefully this time, I'm sure I won't go wrong!"
Becky took the third hundred chips from Draco, but this time Becky hesitated for even longer. She observed the roulette wheel, then the dealer, and finally the distribution of bets by other gamblers. In the end, she placed her chips in the red zone again.
"Still betting red?" Draco asked.
After looking around, Becky leaned close to Draco and whispered her analysis to him, "Look, fewer people are betting on red than black this time. For the house to win, they have to pay out on the side with more bets, right? That way they'll make more money."
"So, this time it's very likely to be a winning streak!" she said confidently.
Seeing Becky's serious expression, as if she had discovered the secret of the casino, Draco almost burst out laughing. He suppressed his laughter, nodded as if he had just realized something, and said nothing.
The roulette wheel spun for the third time, the ball bounced, and then fell.
black.
"How could this be..." Becky was completely deflated, like a defeated rooster, hanging her head dejectedly, "How could all three be black...?"
"Looks like you had a bit of bad luck today," Draco said, patting her on the shoulder with a hint of schadenfreude.
"I'm not usually like this, it's just a coincidence today..." Becky retorted, but her voice lacked conviction. Then she complained, "It's all that Draco's fault! He must have passed on his bad luck to me; nothing good ever comes from running into him!"
"..."
Upon hearing this, Draco's facial muscles twitched slightly, and several black lines instantly appeared on his forehead. He suppressed the urge to punch her and tried to ask in a calm tone:
" Draco, who is he?"
"What an obnoxious guy!" Becky immediately perked up, as if she had found an outlet for her emotions. "He has a venomous tongue, is arrogant, haughty, and..."
"What else did I do to you?" Draco continued to probe, a little curious about just how pathetic he seemed in Becky's eyes.
