An enormous azure planet.
Radiating a hazy, pale-blue halo, it appeared before the mechas' eyes.
An indisputable fact lay before Luo Bing and Zhu Guodong.
"The m-m... mechas... have flown out of Earth!"
Luo Bing looked dazed, his face full of disbelief.
He let out a chicken-like squawk.
Towering waves surged through his heart, shaking him violently inside.
It shattered his eyeballs.
It demolished his outlook on life.
In less than twenty minutes, the mechas had flown out of Earth.
That speed of Mach 24 was absolutely real!
Otherwise, how could they possibly have left Earth so quickly?!
They could still figure out a math problem this simple.
Just then.
Wang Yixue's voice rang out.
"Reporting, sir! We've reached low Earth orbit. Awaiting instructions!"
Li Guozhong looked at Luo Bing.
Only then did Luo Bing recover from his daze.
He hurriedly said,
"Proceed according to plan!"
"Yes, sir!"
Wang Yixue and Tong Yao shouted in unison.
They activated the dormant hydrogen engines.
Two bursts of flame instantly erupted in space.
Two streaks of red light plunged down from space at a speed almost too fast for the naked eye to follow.
Even just watching from their chairs, Luo Bing and Zhu Guodong felt as though they were suffocating.
The data panel showed that their diving speed had already reached Mach 31!
Such speed was simply unimaginable. It was insane.
They were men in their sixties.
How could they withstand this kind of excitement?
Both were breathing rapidly, their eyes bloodshot.
They were extraordinarily worked up.
Standing beside them, Li Guozhong seemed to have anticipated this and gave his subordinate a meaningful look.
The breathing equipment prepared in advance was brought over.
Looking at the nasal cannula Li Guozhong offered him, Luo Bing frowned.
"Guozhong, what's the meaning of this? I'm in excellent health. I don't need that!"
"I don't need it either. My health isn't much worse than Old Luo's!"
Helpless, Li Guozhong had someone take it away for now.
He sighed inwardly. The old chief really was stubborn.
Seeing that the mechas had descended to about the right altitude.
Li Guozhong immediately picked up the microphone and said loudly,
"Yixue, Tong Yao, show the chiefs something impressive!"
"Yes, sir!"
The two acknowledged the order.
They immediately began braking their mechas with precision.
The diving mechas swiftly flipped over.
Blue tongues of flame over five meters long instantly burst from the four enormous vectoring nozzles on their backs.
The powerful hydrogen engines churned out power like mad.
What happened next sent the blood pressure of countless onlookers soaring.
The mechas plunging down from the sky abruptly slowed, coming to an emergency stop and reversing direction within seconds.
Their engines roared, countless Mach diamonds flashing in their exhaust plumes.
The mechas shot skyward again.
Within a single breath, the mechas completed a vertical 180-degree reversal.
Luo Bing's heart nearly came to an abrupt stop along with them.
His eyes bulged so far they almost left their sockets.
Heavy breaths came huffing from his nostrils.
His lower jaw trembled wildly, his lower teeth crashing violently against his upper teeth.
All color drained from his face.
Zhu Guodong was hardly doing any better.
He was five years older than Luo Bing.
The extreme emotional swings left him excessively agitated.
A clucking sound came from his mouth.
His eyes were rolling upward.
Seeing that they were overstimulated and could no longer catch their breath.
Li Guozhong shook his head beside them.
He muttered,
"I told you to take some oxygen earlier, but you had to keep your beaks stiff like dead ducks."
"You there! Get two nasal cannulas and put them on the chiefs!"
This time, Luo Bing and Zhu Guodong did not refuse.
With a nasal cannula in his nostrils, Luo Bing murmured,
"Guozhong, does that flight maneuver have a name?"
"Sir, that's called the Paperclip Maneuver. Xu Fan invented it too."
"Incredible!"
Although Luo Bing did his utmost to suppress his excitement, his heart still felt as if it would leap out of his throat.
If he took his blood pressure now, it would probably be 580.
In his daze, Luo Bing thought of a question that shocked him.
Since the mechas could perform even such outrageously extreme tactical maneuvers, and could even reach flight speeds of Mach 30.
Then could those descriptions Li Guozhong had given earlier about the weapons' power be true?!
At that thought, Luo Bing's mouth went dry, but he could not spare a moment to drink.
He asked outright,
"Guozhong, those weapon test results you mentioned earlier... could those be real too?"
"Sir, what are you saying? When have I ever lied to you?"
After saying that, Li Guozhong spoke into the microphone.
"Yixue, Tong Yao, begin the weapons tests!"
Wang Yixue and Tong Yao had long been waiting for this order.
They had long since gotten tired of flying the mechas.
Especially Wang Yixue.
Ever since she had blown up a Starlink satellite in space.
She had become utterly enamored with the shoulder-mounted railgun.
She had been wondering when she could blow up another one, and now the order to fire had finally come.
"Yes, Division Commander! Are we blowing up a satellite this time?"
"Uh-"
Wang Yixue's words frightened Li Guozhong into a full-body shudder.
"No satellites. Let's just blow up something normal!"
Hearing this conversation beside them, Luo Bing's mustache bristled.
The way you two put it, blowing up a satellite seemed hardly any different from blowing up a dog bowl.
And what the hell did she mean, "this time"?!
She made it sound as though she had blown one up last time!
If not for his position as a chief, Luo Bing would have really liked to jump up and curse a few times.
Quit fucking bluffing. If you've got the ability, actually blow one up and let us see.
He had long found those Starlink satellites an eyesore!
After taking a couple of breaths of oxygen, Zhu Guodong gulped down some tea as well, finally calming down a little.
Naturally, he did not believe the conversation between Li Guozhong and Wang Yixue.
He said bluntly,
"Guozhong, we know these mechas are formidable, but isn't this satellite-blowing business a little too overblown?"
"What, would you two chiefs like to see it?"
Li Guozhong raised his eyebrows.
From the sound of these two old fellows, they didn't believe him, or what?
Luo Bing and Zhu Guodong exchanged a glance, then both looked at Li Guozhong.
Their eyes seemed to say, whether it was a mule or a horse, bring it out for a run.
What skill was there in shooting your mouth off?!
At least, that was how Li Guozhong understood it.
Instantly getting the message, Li Guozhong spoke into the microphone.
"Yixue, what's the range on your railguns? Can they hit Starlink?"
"Sure! I just scanned with the quantum-source phased-array radar. It's less than ten thousand kilometers away, within range!"
"The chiefs want to see fireworks. You understand what I mean, right?"
"Fireworks? Ah! Yes, yes, yes!"
"All right. Keep it discreet."
Their conversation ended.
Luo Bing and Zhu Guodong were already dumbfounded on the spot.
Listen to that. Was that even human speech?
What kind of cannon had a range of ten thousand kilometers?!
With a cannon that could shoot that far, what would anyone need missiles for?
The two chiefs' mouths gaped so wide they nearly stretched to their ears.
Their darting eyes were just short of flying out of their sockets.
They stared as wide as bronze bells.
Their gazes were fixed straight on Li Guozhong.
After ending the conversation, he turned to look and immediately got a fright.
What was wrong with these two? At first glance, anyone who didn't know better would think they were possessed.
By then, the image on the screen had changed.
Tong Yao moved aside.
The big screen's camera focused entirely on Wang Yixue.
Crimson Sky No. 1 hovered among the clouds.
The shoulder-mounted railgun clicked and clacked.
A mass of red energy gathered on its shoulder.
A crosshair appeared in the holographic helmet's field of view.
After jumping a few times, it locked onto the target.
