Blockbuster Records Store, Los Angeles.
We'll help you.
Nina Williams ' voice is as crisp and clear as she is.
Vers's vigilance remained undiminished.
Why should I believe you?
You don't need to believe me.
Nina walked around her once.
"You are an unknown variable that has landed on our planet, and your enemy is another. Vought dislikes any piece that isn't on the chessboard. Helping you is helping us restore order."
Although I don't understand what Vought is, this logic is more convincing than any hypocritical goodwill.
Just then, a woman wearing a red jacket and with short pink hair squeezed in.
As she walked, she cracked her knuckles, making a crisp snapping sound.
"That's it? An alien that fell from the sky?"
Vie's gaze swept over Vers, making no attempt to conceal her scrutiny.
That green uniform looks so tacky.
"He doesn't look like he can take a beating."
Vers felt offended, and a faint aura of energy emanated from his body.
You'd better watch your words.
"Oh? Want to fight?"
Wei grinned, his face filled with eager excitement.
She loved teaching these serious types how to be "manners".
"Get down to business."
Nina coldly interrupted her.
Wei curled her lip and dropped her provocative stance.
Vers's wary blue eyes darted back and forth between Nina and Vi.
The two women before me were like ice in the deep sea, one as calm as the ice of the Deep, and the other as volatile as a volcano about to erupt.
Their combination itself exudes a dangerous sense of incongruity.
"Your order is none of my business."
Vers responded coldly.
"I'm only responsible for carrying out my duties."
"Yeah?"
Vers took a step closer.
"Is your mission just to stand here and stand there blankly? Or are you saying that the elite warriors of your Kree Empire only know how to hunt down enemies with their mouths?"
A blue flame ignited in Vers's eyes.
As one of the most elite warriors of the Kree Empire, she had never been subjected to such blatant contempt.
Just as tensions were about to rise...
A beam of emerald green energy shot out from the crowd across the street without warning, its target Vers inside the record store!
"Careful!"
Vers shoved Vi aside and rolled to the other side.
"BOOM!"
The energy beam grazed the spot where they had just stood and slammed into the back wall of the video store, blasting an entire row of videotape shelves and the wall itself into dust.
The two Los Angeles police officers, who were kept on the perimeter by Vought Security, were terrified and instinctively sought cover.
"My God! What is that?!"
Nina had already darted behind the load-bearing pillar by the door when the explosion occurred, and could clearly see the source of the attack.
Across the street, a passerby wearing an ordinary jacket fired that energy blast, then turned and fled with a strange smile on his face.
" Skrulls!"
Vers leaped to her feet, her long golden hair flying through the dust, and locked onto the receding figure.
Without any hesitation, they chased after it in that direction.
"Hey! Wait for me!"
Seeing this, Wei's fighting spirit was ignited to its peak.
This is much more interesting than standing here arguing!
"Follow her."
Nina's voice came through.
"Maintain distance, synchronize with her position, and assess her fighting style. Do not intervene unprovoked."
"Receive!"
Wei laughed loudly, slammed his metal gauntlets on the ground, and used the recoil to leap high into the air. In a few steps, he climbed onto the roof of the nearby building and chased after Vers's figure at an astonishing speed.
Nina Williams remained in place without showing any impatience.
She took out a miniature terminal from her pocket and swiped her fingertips across it rapidly.
Within seconds, three micro-drones silently rose from the tactical vehicle behind her, locking onto the fleeing Skrulls and Vers and Vi from different angles.
"The target is moving north along Seventh Avenue and is expected to enter the Santa Monica Nursing Home area in three minutes."
Nina got into the driver's seat of a black sedan and reported to the Vought Tower via an encrypted channel.
"The visitor's tracking ability is very strong, and our boxers are currently observing and monitoring them. The scene is now under our control."
After she finished speaking, she signaled the driver to start the engine, and the vehicle smoothly merged into the traffic.
On the vehicle's screen, the real-time footage transmitted by the drone clearly showed the three chasing lights on the rooftop.
The rooftops of Los Angeles became Vers and Vie's parkour playground.
Vers's movements were light and swift, and he calculated the landing point precisely for each jump.
Wei is completely different; she is more violent and direct, and her landing is always accompanied by a dull thud and shattered tiles.
Hey! Alien girl! Is that all the speed you can go? Haven't you eaten?
Wei shouted provocations from behind, enjoying the chase.
Vers ignored her.
Her entire attention was focused on the target below, who was sometimes weaving through the crowd and sometimes running swiftly through the alleyways.
The Skrulls speed and endurance far exceeding that of ordinary humans, yet they still could not escape her.
Finally, the figure plunged into a seemingly peaceful and tranquil nursing home.
When Vers and Vi landed at the entrance of the nursing home, the distinctive aura of the Skrulls vanished completely from the building.
Wei frowned as she looked at the sign at the entrance that read " Santa Monica Sunshine Home ".
"What's going on? That guy's hiding in a nursing home?"
In the lobby of the nursing home, a dozen elderly people were leisurely watching TV, playing chess, or simply dozing off in their wheelchairs.
The air was filled with the scent of disinfectant and a sense of tranquility that belonged to old age.
Vi followed behind Vers, looking at the group of unarmed old men, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
Her gauntlets looked particularly out of place and threatening.
She could smash a gangster's head into a wall without hesitation, but doing it here was more painful than killing her.
Vers's eyes slowly swept across the hall, finally settling on a corner.
There, an elderly woman with a full head of silver hair, wearing reading glasses, and looking kind and gentle, was knitting a sweater slowly and methodically.
She was completely unaware of the arrival of these two uninvited guests.
Vers walked straight toward the old woman.
Wei's heart skipped a beat; she had a vague feeling that something bad was about to happen.
She wanted to speak up and stop her, but Nina's command "Don't get involved" still echoed in her ears.
How long are you going to keep up this act?
Vers's voice rang out in the quiet hall, drawing everyone's attention.
The old woman knitting slowly raised her head, revealing a pair of cloudy and confused eyes through her thick reading glasses.
"Little girl, are you talking to me?"
Her voice was hoarse and slow, full of the marks of time.
Your left hand.
Vers pointed to the old lady's hands resting on her knees.
"When knitting, your little finger tends to curl up slightly. But when you were running away just now, you used your left hand to pull yourself up against the wall three times."
"A person who habitually uses their left hand will curl their little finger inward to maintain stability during fine motor activities, rather than raising it. This is one of the physiological flaws that prevents your race from perfectly mimicking the neural habits of other species."
Wei, who was listening nearby, was dumbfounded.
Is that even possible?
By observing the knitting posture?
Your disguise has flaws.
Vers declared coldly.
The next second, to Wei's horrified gaze, and under the watchful eyes of all the elderly residents and caregivers in the nursing home, Vers moved.
Without the slightest hesitation, she gathered dazzling photon energy in her right hand and aimed it at the "old lady's" face!
"No!"
Wei shouted out instinctively.
It's over!
It's all over!
If that punch landed, let alone an old lady, even an elephant would be turned into mincemeat!
More importantly, attacking an elderly person who appears to be defenseless in full view of everyone!
This is the worst nightmare for Vought's PR department!
Wei's mind raced.
Rushing forward to stop Vers?
This disobeyed Nina's orders and was tantamount to helping the enemy.
But if we don't stop it, tomorrow's world headlines will be " Vought hero publicly murders innocent elderly man".
She could even picture Hans Landa's infuriatingly smiling face saying to her, "Wei, your actions have caused incalculable losses to the company. You know the consequences."
Damn it!
She'd rather take on an entire army single-handedly than face that kind of consequence!
