Eddie awoke from his deep sleep, a strong feeling of mental fatigue causing his head to throb slightly.
My mind wasn't as clear as it had been yesterday, while my body still craved that feeling of being smart and in control.
"Has the effect of the medicine already worn off?"
Patting his groggy head, Eddie felt like he'd been brought back to reality; the Eddie had been so clear-headed and in control before seemed like just an illusion.
Fortunately, he remembered that he had written some novels when he was clear-headed yesterday. If he didn't submit the manuscript soon, he figured he would really be kicked out of the apartment because he couldn't pay the rent.
After tidying up his completed novel, Eddie casually threw on a jacket and prepared to head out.
But before he could even leave the house, there was a noise at the door.
'Ding-dong'
Is Mr. Eddie home?
The doorbell rang, accompanied by a deep, steady male voice.
"Who?" Eddie called out instinctively, but there was no answer.
"Bang!"
The next second, the dilapidated wooden door of the apartment was violently broken down, and three tall, burly men barged into Eddie's cramped little house.
"Oh my god! What the hell are you guys doing?!"
Eddie's mouth moved faster than his brain; he blurted out the insult, only to regret it a second later.
After all, the three Great Han who came in had arms almost as thick as his waist. If they angered him, a single Riot Games would be enough to send him to meet his maker.
Despite Eddie's angry outburst, the three intruders didn't get angry. Instead, after checking Eddie's room and finding no danger, they called out towards the door:
"Boss, it's safe inside. You may come in."
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Eddie, for disturbing your residence."
The person arrives before the voice does!
A well-dressed middle-aged man walked in, leaning on an expensive cane, and then looked at the bewildered Eddie with a look of surprise.
"Who... who are you? Why have you barged in here? I don't think I've done anything to offend you!"
Eddie looked at the other person's impeccable attire, resembling that of a gentleman from high society, and the three burly men beside him. His questioning words unconsciously ended with the use of honorifics.
This kind of person is clearly not from his social class; how could he possibly know him and come knocking on his door?
"You don't need to know who I am, Eddie. I'm only here because I need to see you. An important person wants to see you."
The middle-aged man spoke warmly, somewhat excited. He was the first person to find Eddie's address and the first to come to his door.
His altered mind was controlling his thoughts, and he felt extremely pleased to be able to complete the tasks assigned by Xu Xiao.
Like fanatical believers who have received God revelation, he couldn't wait to take Eddie to see Xu Xiao and complete his mission.
Looking at the kind-faced middle-aged man, Eddie spoke with some trepidation:
Who wants to see me? Can I not go?
"What do you think?" The man's smile faded, and he turned and walked away.
"Take him with you; the adults are waiting."
Two Great Han stepped forward, and Eddie hesitated for a moment before extending his hand.
A wise man doesn't fight a losing battle; it's clear he can't fight back in this situation.
Two Great Han each grabbed one of his hands, like eagles snatching chicks, and carried him out.
When I got down to the bottom of the building, I happened to run into a group of police officers getting out of a car. The one leading them was the chief of the Manhattan precinct.
Eddie felt like he'd seen a savior and was about to shout for help when he saw the middle-aged man wave at the leading policeman.
"Hey, Chief Modi, you're too late. I already found this guy first."
'What? The police are here to arrest me too?'
Eddie felt like his brain wasn't working properly. He didn't think he had done anything wrong, so why were so many people coming to him?
Upon hearing the middle-aged man's words and seeing Eddie being supported by two Great Han, the fat chief's face trembled slightly, but ultimately turned into helplessness.
"Then you'd better take him to see the adults quickly; we'll clear the way for you."
With that, he led his men back to the police car, turned on the siren, and drove off to clear the way.
???
As Eddie stared at this abstract scene, he felt his worldview crumbling.
'What's wrong with this world? Someone is clearly trying to restrict me, and the police not only ignore it but also drive to clear the way for them?'
'And who exactly is waiting to see me, that even the police can disregard the law?'
As an author, Eddie considers himself to have a pretty vivid imagination, but he has never seen anything like this before.
Soon, a stretched Bentley pulled up, and the middle-aged man got in with Eddie, followed by two bodyguards.
To be fair, this was Eddie's first time riding in such a luxury car worth millions of dollars. In the past, he would have been unable to resist looking around with curiosity and even taking photos.
But now, sitting in the leather seat he was sitting in for the first time, his heart was pounding with trepidation.
After all, no one knew what fate awaited him on this journey.
'Am I the illegitimate son of some important person, or the heir of a distant relative, or something like that?'
Some unrealistic fantasies surfaced in his mind, which was the only place Eddie could think of.
He's just a commoner from the bottom of society; what right does he have to be taken away in such a grand manner?
Amidst trepidation and unease, the vehicle entered a vast estate on the outskirts of New York. This estate was once the prized possession of a financial tycoon, but now it served as Xu Xiao's lodging.
The car stopped, and the middle-aged man led Eddie on foot. After walking for about twenty minutes, they finally entered a meadow inside the manor.
Here, Eddie witnessed a magical scene:
A handsome man floated in the air in the distance, surrounded by many dark figures that moved around him, occasionally creating a sonic boom.
My God! This is simply God!
'The important person who wants to see me, could it be him?'
Eddie analyzed the situation with considerable insight, while also wondering what he possessed that made this important figure so interested in him.
Xu Xiao, who was far away, noticed Eddie the moment he entered the manor, but he didn't rush to meet him. Instead, he waited until he finished his daily training before flying over.
Meanwhile, Eddie had been watching for a full half hour, completely regarding Xu Xiao as God.
Anyone who sees someone who can summon lightning and turn the grass upside down as if it were being deeply tilled would be filled with admiration.
Humans are inherently in awe of the strong and the mysterious!
