Sun Fei spoke with a righteous air, striking a deliberately valiant pose.
But in his heart, the beast had no dignity at all. He hopped about, his eyes darting slyly as he shouted, Haha, that's right, that's exactly how it's done! Hehe, use the image of a hero to win the heart of an underage girl who worships warriors. That's the essence of the secret online girl-picking-up technique from my previous life! Wahahaha...
"Enough, Alexander, you're causing trouble here..."
The little blonde Loli Jima paid no attention to Sun Fei's act. Her pretty face was red with anger, and she glared at him with her big, sapphire-blue eyes, both furious and anxious.
"Jima, Angela, let Alexander stay here!"
The three-star warrior Frank Lampard had come over at some point. He gently patted the angry little Jima and looked at Sun Fei with a complicated expression.
Lampard realized he could no longer understand the young king he had once thought he knew so well. Alexander, whom he had watched grow up and whom countless people had mocked and teased, had shocked him beyond imagination today. Even now, Lampard had yet to digest everything he had seen.
"Huh? Lord Lampard, you..."
Neither Angela nor Jima had expected Lampard to say that, and both were astonished.
Both girls knew that if there was anyone in Chambord City besides the two of them who cared most about Alexander, it was undoubtedly Frank Lampard, the three-star warrior who had protected him as he grew up. So they could hardly believe that Lampard would agree to let someone like Alexander, who could not even protect himself, remain on the ramparts amid clashing weapons, where his life could be in danger at any moment.
"Angela, Jima, look at the way those soldiers are looking at Alexander..."
Lampard pointed at the soldiers, who were making the most of their time to set up defenses and rest, then glanced at the smug Sun Fei before smiling. "Alexander is right. If he hadn't appeared in time and turned the tide just now, Chambord City would already have fallen to the enemy... Angela, I have to admit, you were right. Alexander is destined to become a great king... All right, I'm a little tired. I'm going to rest!"
With that, Lampard hurried away.
Someone noticed that the instant Lampard turned around, his expression changed, and a trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth...
At that moment, Angela and Jima finally noticed the strange atmosphere around them.
Every soldier was looking at Alexander with utter admiration. The king they had once treated as a joke to laugh about after meals now seemed to have become a superstar idol for whom they would gladly lay down their lives at any moment. Previously, such fervent, admiring looks had appeared only when the soldiers saw Lampard, the strongest three-star warrior in Chambord City.
"Long live His Majesty the King!"
"Long live His Majesty King Alexander!"
Sun Fei grinned slyly as he showed off his "charm" to Angela, while giving the soldiers a look any man would understand. The soldiers burst out laughing and obligingly raised their arms to shout "Long live the king!" a few times.
Before, all the soldiers had thought Angela becoming Alexander's fiancée was like a fresh flower stuck in a pile of cow dung. But now they felt that perhaps only that pile of cow dung, King Alexander, was worthy of a kind and beautiful girl like Angela in all of Chambord City.
Angela and Jima had never seen an atmosphere like this before.
"What happened?" Both clever, beautiful girls were a little bewildered.
Just then-
"Your Majesty, Pierce can't hold on much longer..."
Brook, the black-haired squadron commander of the king's guard, hurried over.
Although he knew perfectly well that King Alexander was neither a divine priest of the church nor a physician, the astonishing scenes from today's battle had still prompted the anxious Brook to come to Sun Fei for help. He clung to a faint hope: May the God of War bless us. I hope this king who created a miracle can create another one.
Pierce?
At the sound of the name, Sun Fei instinctively thought of the white-haired powerhouse who had taken several sword strikes and risked his life to destroy two enemy siege ladders. Without a doubt, a man like that was a true warrior-not just because of his strength, but because of what he protected and cherished.
"Brook, take good care of these two beautiful ladies. I'll go take a look!"
Sun Fei stroked Angela's soft, smooth, fair little hand and patted it gently, tenderly urging her again and again to be careful. Then he raised his eyebrows at the little blonde Loli Jima as if challenging her, and, led by a soldier, went to see white-haired Pierce.
"Hmph, what's he so proud of?"
The little blonde Loli was furious. He glared resentfully at Sun Fei's departing figure, then turned around and called sweetly, "Uncle Brook," before asking in confusion, "What exactly happened just now? Alexander, he seems..."
It was also the question Angela wanted answered, though Sun Fei's intimate gesture had left her blushing and her heart racing.
Smiling, Brook began to recount everything that had happened during the desperate fighting on the ramparts.
As a squadron commander of the king's guard, Brook cherished the two beautiful girls before him as a father would his own daughters. In fact, almost everyone in Chambord City was very fond of the two sensible, kind girls. People had always felt indignant on Angela's behalf, pitying the beautiful girl for having to marry a fool of a king. But now, Brook and many of the soldiers who had fought in the battle were convinced that only King Alexander was worthy of a girl as pure and kind as an angel.
By the time Brook reached the end of his story, Angela and Jima's big eyes were full of shock.
Was the hero Uncle Brook described really that idiot Alexander?
The little Loli Jima was skeptical.
Chambord City's infirmary for the wounded.
Sun Fei was startled as soon as he entered.
How was this an infirmary? It was practically a pigsty-
A chilly, damp, moldy smell filled the large room, which looked as though it had been abandoned for a long time. There was not even a door to keep out the wind and rain. The windows on all four sides had been blocked with stones, and dust and dirt were everywhere. A little dry straw had been scattered haphazardly across the floor, where several hundred bloodied wounded men lay amid moans and cries.
Four or five people in black-and-white robes who looked like physicians moved among the wounded, but they were clearly unable to keep up. They worked frantically, sweat pouring down their faces.
"His Majesty the King has arrived!"
The soldier leading the way walked in and shouted.
His shout drew the attention of everyone in the infirmary-except those who were unconscious from serious injuries.
Word of King Alexander's heroic performance in the battle had already spread through the accounts of wounded men brought in later. The stirring scenes of brutal battle, belonging only to men, had filled many of the wounded with longing as they listened. Of course, some soldiers who had been injured earlier and had not witnessed those scenes were skeptical. They wanted to see for themselves the king who had suddenly gone from fool to hero.
The wounded stirred at the sight of King Alexander.
Some even tried to struggle into a sitting position despite their injuries, reopening wounds that had only just scabbed over. The soldiers who had fought shoulder to shoulder with Sun Fei excitedly raised their arms and shouted, "Long live the king!"
Sun Fei gave the soldier who had led him there a mildly reproachful look, then hurried to reassure the soldiers struggling to sit up...
He did not know what to say.
This was clearly no occasion to show off and put on airs as a king. He saw the faces, some mature, some young, some old, and the shocking injuries covering their bodies. Blood flowed from them, staining the dirt beneath them red...
Something in Sun Fei was stirred in an instant.
Stories of glory and heroes from his previous life seemed to come vividly to life before his eyes. In a sense, these soldiers had all been wounded protecting him, and some had inevitably suffered lifelong disabilities. But as someone who had transmigrated, Sun Fei could not bring himself to accept all this. If he could, he truly wished he had fought alongside these men from the beginning.
People seemed to be born full of contradictions, just like Sun Fei.
He had been terrified of dying, yet now he longed so much to fight. Perhaps it had something to do with the endless bloody slaughter he had experienced in the Diablo World, or perhaps his true nature had been awakened.
"My warriors, you have protected Chambord City and your own honor!"
In the end, Sun Fei, who had always considered himself quite eloquent, could not think of what to say. He stood in the doorway and bowed to the wounded. For some reason, "Thank you for your hard work, comrades" almost slipped out, but fortunately he changed it to "honor" at the last moment.
In a world resembling the feudal society of medieval Europe, with its rigid hierarchy, a king bowing to the lowly soldiers under him was an unheard-of occurrence-even for a fool of a king.
People's hearts were simple.
Many were moved in that instant.
Even the eyes of some soldiers who had been wallowing in self-pity over their injuries and disabilities lit up.
Sun Fei comforted the wounded soldiers one by one, finally coming to white-haired Pierce.
The powerful man who had been so fierce and formidable on the ramparts was now moderately unconscious. The shadowy figure's sword strike, carrying a trace of Dou Qi, had slammed into his left shoulder and shaken his internal organs. Blood flowed unstoppably from the wound. A young physician was working frantically beside him, but it did not seem to be doing much good.
Sun Fei had just taken a careful look at how these physicians worked.
To his disappointment, Chambord City's physicians did not possess the miraculous magical healing abilities he had imagined. They merely applied simple bandages and, at most, smeared on herbal pastes resembling the traditional Chinese medicines commonly seen in his previous life. Such treatment was clearly of very limited use. Whether the wounded lived or died afterward depended on their own physical condition and the will of fate. If they pulled through, they lived; if they did not, they died!
There will still be two updates today.
This is my first time writing fantasy, and it is much harder to get a handle on than competitive soccer fiction. At the very least, the outline and pacing are harder to manage, because everything is fictional.
I, Xiaodao, want to present everyone with the best writing. Going too fast feels a little unbalanced.
Once I've adjusted, I'll definitely pick up the pace.
