"Isn't he awake now?"
Sun Fei sneered at Bazel, who was so angry he was nearly going mad, then instructed Brook, "Untie him and assign two soldiers to protect him. I need the mage Gejir to play the part a mage should in the coming battle!"
A cold glint flashed in Bazel's narrowed eyes.
But he quickly held himself back.
At that very moment, Sun Fei suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, as though a bloodthirsty beast were lurking in a shadow somewhere nearby, ready to pounce and devour someone at any moment...
He looked around, but found nothing.
Was I imagining things? Sun Fei wondered.
Brook, who had received Sun Fei's order, clearly noticed nothing. The honest man strictly obeyed His Majesty's command and answered loudly. With a wave of his hand, he sent two soldiers carrying the half-dead Gejir toward the gatehouse. This was where the fighting was fiercest when the enemy attacked the city. Though it was a little dangerous, placing a mage there could indeed be of great use.
By now, the fat pig Gejir had been thoroughly frightened by Sun Fei's beating and dared not resist in the slightest. Whimpering and groaning, he looked anxiously at his father, Bazel.
The herald Bazel was about to say something...
But just then, another arrogant voice rang out-
"How dare you! You two filthy maggots, how dare you treat young master Gejir like this?"
A burly figure suddenly burst out of the crowd as the voice rang out.
The newcomer was aggressive and utterly arrogant. Without a word, he viciously kicked the two soldiers carrying Gejir several times, sending them sprawling to the side. Then he turned around, his face changing to a fawning expression, and bowed and scraped like a dog before its master as he helped Gejir up.
The man then spun around, his expression changing again, and roared at several wounded soldiers standing nearby, "What are you standing around for, you blind idiot maggots? Hurry up and find a decent stretcher to carry young master Gejir back to rest... Damn it, he's hurt so badly! Who the fuck did this? Step forward!"
The man's ability to change expressions was truly masterful. Sun Fei counted carefully: in the blink of an eye, he had switched between "bowing and scraping" and "bullying others under another's protection" three times. He could be called the otherworld's "expression emperor."
Hearing the man's self-righteous question, Sun Fei's mischievous mood returned. He obediently took a step forward and said, "I did it. I've stepped forward."
At once, the atmosphere on the wall turned a little strange, and a terrifying silence fell.
Only then did the man finally notice that something seemed a little off about the mood today.
Even the dissolute young master Gejir, whom he was supporting, was trembling-trembling uncontrollably. It wasn't excitement at finally being rescued, but unprecedented terror. The fat pig struggled to turn his head toward Sun Fei, terrified that this lord would come over and slap him another dozen times without a word. He had already experienced that twice and didn't want a third taste.
Sun Fei ignored the fat pig's resentful gaze. He was looking the idiot who had suddenly rushed out up and down.
He was a sturdy, burly man about 1.8 meters tall, his messy blond hair adding to his fierce appearance. A vicious scar ran diagonally down from the middle of his forehead, and a black patch covered his right eye. He was evidently one-eyed. He wore gleaming armor, and judging by his appearance alone, he could be considered a formidable man. But his fawning air of someone who bullied others under another's protection made Sun Fei classify him as a scumbag without hesitation.
The honest Brook leaned close to Sun Fei's ear and quietly explained, "He's the military judge, Conca."
Sun Fei nodded.
Just then-
"Oh? Well, what do you know, it's King Alexander! Ha, what am I supposed to say about you? Why aren't you staying put in the palace? What are you doing up here on the wall, making trouble? Hurry up and release Gejir. This is no joke!"
Seeing Sun Fei step forward, the military judge Conca showed no sign of nervousness. He swaggered up to Sun Fei, gave a smile that didn't reach his eyes as he bowed, and spoke with a rather impatient expression.
He didn't take the king before him seriously at all.
Ever since the first day of fighting, the military judge had hidden at home under the pretext of being injured. He had kept himself so thoroughly hidden that he had no idea what had happened since yesterday, and hadn't even seen Sun Fei furiously slapping Gejir just now. So he still regarded Sun Fei as the idiot with the mind of a three- or four-year-old and showed not the slightest respect in his words.
The herald Bazel cursed the fool under his breath. The old man in red knew things were about to go wrong, so he hunched over at the side and coughed loudly.
But the military judge Conca clearly misunderstood.
Like a vicious dog seeking its master's praise, Conca became even more zealous after hearing Bazel cough. He stepped directly in front of Sun Fei and turned around, blocking him from view, then haughtily issued orders. "You filthy maggots, you should all have died on the battlefield! Hurry up and get me a stretcher! And remember, bring every single physician in Chambord City to Lord Bazel's residence to treat young master Gejir!"
"The physicians are all treating the wounded soldiers right now. They don't have time..." someone replied quietly.
"Those damned maggots can go die! How can those lowlifes compare to young master Gejir? Quick, quick, quick, quick! Go find them!" The military judge Conca didn't care in the slightest.
But...
This time, no one seemed to listen to him.
The old man in red silently cursed the fool, but for a moment he didn't know how to smooth things over either.
Seeing that none of the soldiers obeyed the orders that had always worked before, the military judge Conca felt his authority had been challenged. He flew into a rage, stamping his feet and shouting, "Lowly slaves! Idiot maggots! What are you standing around for? Aren't you afraid of military law?"
"Aren't you afraid of military law?" someone behind him demanded.
"Me? Ahahaha, military law? I am the military law! In Chambord City, my word is military law!" the furious military judge Conca answered instinctively.
But the next moment, he too felt that something wasn't quite right. He turned around and discovered that the person who had questioned him was the fool king Alexander.
After a moment's concern, however, he dismissed it.
He's just a fool with the mind of a three- or four-year-old. So what if I said it? Hasn't it always been this way? Ha, what can he do to me?
But-
"You don't know when you're courting death!"
An impatient, cold snort rang out.
Conca never would have dreamed that the fool king would actually lash out and kick him in the back. A terrifying, irresistible force struck him, sending him flying forward against his will.
"How... how is that possible?"
Conca slammed hard into the wall, blood spraying from his mouth like a fountain. His eyes were filled with shock. How could a king who was like a fool send him, a peak one-star warrior, flying with one kick as though he were a dead dog?
Did I miss something?
Spitting blood, Conca looked toward the herald Bazel, only to discover to his shock that the man who had once been Chambord City's true highest authority was standing to the side with his eyes lowered, not daring to say a single word or two on his behalf.
Conca had been a mercenary before. Though he looked rough and reckless, he was actually a shrewd man with an eye for detail beneath his rough exterior. He had wandered into Chambord City two years ago and, thanks to his strength as a one-star warrior, had earned Bazel's favor. Bazel had come to rely on him as a trusted aide and gone to great lengths to secure him the position of military judge. Conca hadn't observed carefully earlier and had overlooked many things. Now, after taking that kick, he finally understood that the wind was blowing in a different direction today. It seemed the fool king named Alexander... had changed!
Conca's thoughts raced, and he knew that today's business was probably going to be troublesome.
It looked as though the idiot Alexander seemed to have regained power.
With a start, he instantly understood many things. Assessing the situation, he disregarded his injuries, hurriedly rolled over, and knelt on the ground. Once again displaying his true colors as an "expression emperor," he slapped himself as he begged for mercy. "Your Majesty, forgive me! I... I drank too much today... I didn't know what I was doing just now... Your Majesty, forgive me! I deserve to die!"
The sight of a 1.8-meter-tall burly man kneeling and begging for mercy like a dead dog made the people around him sick.
"Your Majesty, forgive me! I deserve to die! I was drunk, I deserve to die!" Ignoring the contemptuous and disdainful looks around him, Conca continued "tirelessly" slapping himself and begging for mercy.
"Deserve to die?" Sun Fei sneered. "You're absolutely right. You do deserve to die! A thousand, ten thousand times over!"
As he spoke, Sun Fei suddenly strode over to the soldiers Conca had kicked to the ground, bent down, and brushed the dust from their bodies. Then he led the two bewildered soldiers over to Conca, who was kneeling and begging for mercy.
"Lord military judge Conca, open your eyes and look! These are the filthy maggots you were talking about. Open your dog eyes and take a good look! Which one of them isn't wounded? Which one of them hasn't bled in battle? While they fought and bled for four days and nights without sleep or rest to defend the kingdom, where were you hiding, Lord military judge, when you were the very person who should have been on the wall? What were you doing?"
The angry questions, shouted like thunder, left Conca trembling with fear as he lay on the ground begging for mercy.
The soldiers on the wall, however, felt their blood boil at Sun Fei's words.
Some soldiers were already trembling all over with excitement, tears welling in their eyes. His Majesty's words had spoken straight to their hearts.
"Filthy soldiers? No! In my eyes, they are the cleanest people in Chambord City. What do the blood and mud on them matter? This is a true man's pride. Blood and dirt cannot conceal the purity of my warriors' souls... But you are the exact opposite. Even if you wear gleaming armor from head to toe, you cannot hide the nauseating filth inside you! If they are filthy maggots, then what the fuck are you?"
It's Teachers' Day, and my wife is a teacher. From this morning until now, I was forced to spend the whole day shopping at the supermarket.
Please forgive me, brothers.
The update was late. I'll make up for it with three chapters tomorrow.
