History

Court rule and the princes

Emperor Yuanchu responds harshly to perceived challenges to imperial authority. After his scouts intercept Prince Zhenbei's letter instructing Shang Hongye to choose the Crown Prince as her husband, he sends an additional thousand Black Ice Platform scouts to the Northern Border to monitor Prince Zhenbei's every move. 15

He publicly rewards Fang Heng's Sacred Emperor Rice contribution by conferring a commandery princedom and ordering that the rice seeds be exchanged for grain, using the valuable seed supply to address the northwestern drought and pressure aristocratic families into assisting the court. 20

He takes an active role in shaping the succession struggle.
